My 2007 had 351k miles on it..yes, you read right, 351k miles....we maintained it ourselves. We replaced brakes, shocks, struts, cv axles, wheel bearings, replaced oil, lower control arms as needed. It did have a bad valve seal so it was burning oil, but it kept running and passed inspections everytime. But a week ago we wrecked it. So upsetting because we bought it when it had 43k miles on it and took pride in taking care of it. Currently looking for another one.
You have my condolences, I was looking like wtf 351k miles I’d be happy to get half that from my gas VW's. You have inspired me to look for one for my DD, good luck.
Hate to hear this. I know your pain. Ours had 381,000 on it when it was totaled. Me and my wife bought it together as our first brand new car. My neighbors pit bull got out and chased a cat under it and the dog ripped the car apart trying to get to the cat. My insurance company gave us retail market value for it and I replaced the car with another one that had 137000 on it. It is fully loaded like our other one.
I just got mine and it has 147k miles and the suspension is making that hollow sound when I hit a bump. I replaced (per tire shop) the shocks, struts and sway bar arms/links. The noise is still there. What else could it be? I don't want to sink a lot of money into it, but the noise is annoying.
Thank you so much for this video I just bought my 2006 HHR this year in 2021 it's got a 186,000 mi on it and I'm looking forward to a really good car I hope it works out as well as yours did thank you again for your video
Our 2011HHR Z24 has been a great vehicle ..my wife drives it all the time..she carrys all her art supplies & easels..the 2.4 200hp. Super charged engine is fairly fast too👍
Replaced Hubs @50k miles on mine, While I was there I changed out the Serpentine belt (cut the Harbor Freight tool down to size). . The 50 Amp Fuse at the Battery blew too for some reason, make sure that's grounded well and not on a painted spot either. Alternator was easier from the top than I thought it would be. Both camshaft position sensors needed changing and now, after a rain, I've got to replace the dumb rubber mat over the heater / AC Fan. Had a misfire code but it went away for some odd reason - coil packs in future. 2006 HHR 2 LT 88k on her.
Hey, hello!! Would you know anything about why the headlights will suddenly either turn off while not driving or just won't turn on at all unless you tap the front of headlight or wiggle the wires where you would replace the headlamp? Thankyou
Exploration D20 sick man! It’s still my daily sometimes I feel gay driving it but like I said I have respect for it because it was our only car for years and totally reliable. Now we enjoy a 2019 4Runner TRD off-road. But I ’ll never sell that HHR, I’ll run it into the ground. At least the paint still looks nice and takes a great shine with wax. it’s a LT 2.4 orange color. Now that we have another vehicle I’ve replaced the entire front end suspension myself more preventive maintenance then problems. I will say tho if you ever have the traction control issues check your motor mounts. 3 of mine were blown out and after I fixed those I’ve never seen the TC again, easy to do yourself and cheap (another thing I like about the HHR)
@@pappaclutch3266 hell yeah I'm about to turn mine into a lowrider bcuz of how cheap it is candy apple paint with white decals and a front windshield visor I found on NAPA
We've got a 2006 and about every two or three years the front door handles break. I guess you can buy metal ones, which I should have done the last time. I think both of the front seat handles (driver and passenger side) have been replaced about 4 times. I just replaced both last week - again. Maybe it's the cold weather in Michigan, I dunno. I know last winter they broke, on both sides, the same day - which was weird. And the way these things are made the door handle assembly is kind of riveted in, with melted plastic on the tops of some posts, so that removing the thing is a pain. The bigger pain is that your grind away the plastic to get the assembly out, then have to drop glue on these posts to secure the new handle and if you have to do it over and over the posts break.....just a mess. Three of five posts were totally gone on the driver's side and I ended up just having to screw the damned thing into the door panel. I will say this: If you have to replace a door handle buy the metal replacements.....not the plastic one, which are the stock thing. AND: I mentioned this elsewhere and someone asked if we closed the doors by grabbing the handles - no way. Basically, I love the car because it's comfortable and gets good mileage....166,000 miles. But it has some quirks. We've also had the electrical system go nuts a couple of times....long story.
hey man love your videos. I also have a chevy hhr. Great car. 2009. I have done most of my repairs myself including the turn signal switch. I am going to replace the thermostat on it soon. I was wondering have you had to change the thermostat yet?
I have a 2010 model basic rent a carl bought from the rental company in 2011 it had 30,100 miles on it. Now it has over 130,000 on it. That is with one year not driving it (had it parked while I was away for a year) at all. Right now have no blower motor so no AC or heat.
Currently own a 2009 HHR SS Panel. Bought new 12 yrs ago brand new. Had a cylinder head replaced under warranty at 54 hundred miles. Later had the original turbo replaced in 2019. Has 135 thousand miles on the odometer. Still runs strong. One of 216 full panels with the SS option. 1 of 9 in Aqua Blue Mettalic. My daily driver also car show & cruisein mobile. Get alot of nice comments about the exterior color choice many never knew that Chevy offered the H in a panel let alone available as a Super Sport! I'll just keep on truckin in my SS for many more years to come!
I bought a 2007 new and still have it . I don't drive it a lot . I installed a rear sway bar . I replaced the turn signal witch and most of the light bulbs .l get 34 mpg on the now at .
I have a 2008 HHR and I was thinking that those old style chrome CRAGAR SS rims that were real popular way back in the '70's. I think those would look REALLY cool on an HHR. Only thing is ........ if I'm correct the HHR's have what, 17" wheels on 'em? Does anyone know if they make those kinda cool looking old skool CRAGAR type wheels available in 17" ? If anyone knows and could please respond with info on where I can maybe get 'em or send a link on where someplace might sell 'em I'd certainly appreciate. Originally I never really saw myself driving an HHR. I was either a van guy or a VW Beetle guy. But the HHR kinda fell into my possession by accident and I eventually really fell in love with it ....... the way it drives and especially the way it looks. Besides the CRAGAR type wheels ...... does anyone ono of theres any HHR owner clubs out there? Again, please send all pertinent info. And thanks for posting your HHR video!
How may HHR owners here have problem with rotor warp? I have 145000 miles now on my 2008 HHR, but constant rotor warp, rear brakes dont auto adjust in fact they look like they never engage during the braking process. I've gone through rotors every 5000 miles and yes I do torque them correctly.
Hey have u ever got a code p013e mines wont start and i also had p0017 and i changed the crankshaft sensor but it still wont start if u have please respond thank u
If you have not changed your radio and you have an Apple i phone you can by a two pin cable connector the new iPhone come with a little piece that plugs into the bottom of your phone where you charge it the other end plug in to the pin connector tha you can. Replace a battery and what size to get?
nice filter but how does the air get in with the intake folded over ?
I wish he had started out with telling us what engine and trans it had. Did I miss that?
Thinking bout buying 1 for 1700. Its 07 hhr. Got 197k on odometer. Think worth
Most people say transmission is garbage what is your take on that since you had it?

That is a fact about the rear shoes not adjusting like the old days. I've been keeping up with the ChevyHHR forum on this vehicle.
I've only had to replace the rotors on my wifes 06 once. We bought it at 60k and it's over 180k now.
How about replacement parts? Are they readily available? And are they expensive?
Thanks for the video.
I would think so since most of the cars now use common parts with each other. I just picked up an 08 SS HHR this weekend myself.
Chevy parts are cheap
rockauto has tons of stuff for hhr and different pricing according to brand name and rating.
Its the same platform as a Cobalt , so yes, parts are easy to find.
