    Hello, would you recommend a device whose filter is changed or whose filter is washed?

  • @Grndmddr
    @Grndmddr 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Would either of these work well for mold spores? I don't have any visible mold but live in a basement apartment and would like to have a purifier that works for mold.

    Levoit no longer states their filters are True HEPA on several Core units, including their Core 400S. The Vital 200S still indicates it has a HEPA filter.

      Thank you for pointing this out. I posted on this matter in the comparison between the smaller volume Blueair and the big 600S, but I don't think Air Purifier First saw the comment (at least there was no acknowledgement, so it is nice to see that others are aware of this detail). In my comment on the other video I discussed what Levoit is using and the potential impact on performance beyond initial use as well as how it could relate to the competition. Thank YOU for posting what you did. I don't necessarily think it makes the Levoit a bad choice, but "True HEPA" needs to be dropped from the description of these units for the time being 👍🏻. They are electrostatic filters (Levoit says so on their site).

      What does electrostatic purifier mean for our heath ?

    • @ABG2412
      @ABG2412 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@catherinecheung207 It simply means that the filter media uses a "charge" (like a magnet) to help draw the particles to the filter media. With electrostatic charged filter media, as the filter is covered with debris (loads) after use, the filter's (electromagnetic draw) ability to "pull" or attract particles to the media can decrease. With this, more particles are potentially able to pass through the filter without being pulled to the fibers. Other than losing filtering efficiency with use, most big name air purifiers that use electrostatically charge media are not likely to have any unique impact on a consumer's health. One brand (Blueair) has carbon brushes that ionize the particles and so not only is the filter charged, but the particles are charged to be attracted to the media. Many worry that these ionizing brushes may produce ozone which is a concern, but *ample* independent testing has been done to establish that there is no scientific basis for ill effects that some people believe they have experienced as a result of perceived ozone exposure from them. I hope this helps.

      I dont have pet. So levoit vital 200s is still a better option since it has true HEPA filter?

    • @ABG2412
      @ABG2412 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@longquan0104 In your situation it is likely that the best option depends more on air handling and less on the question of filter media being discussed. Ideally you want a purifier that can cycle the air in a given space/room approx. five times each hour ("Air Changes Per Hour or "ACH"). Yes, true HEPA is a better option in most cases. This is a fact and ideally what you want. That said, the Levoit static charged filter media seems to perform nearly identically to HEPA (*at least when the filters are new*). The point is, you want to shop for a HEPA system that can handle the size of room you want to run it in AND recognize that the size ratings you will see listed relate to running the purifier on high, which almost nobody is going to do much of the time because they will be too loud. Additionally, many brands will rate a room size based on just one or two ACH. Thus a large system that can be run on a speed that is not too loud is more likely to accomplish the 5 ACH standard or an even better option for a number of reasons, two units running on relatively quiet settings. To do this, you have to know what the cubic feet per minute (CFM) ratings are for a given unit on speeds other than high. Some manufacturers are forthcoming with this information and others are less so. If you are in doubt, email/call the manufacturer and ask. Winix is typically very good about this, but so are a number of others including Coway. I believe Levoit is generally helpful here too, but it is not likely that the 200S would provide 5 ACH in a decent size room when run on a long-term "useable" setting. As an extra side note: Do NOT rely on "auto" settings (for a number of reasons) as air sensors in these units are either cheap at best or in the case of Winix generally just an odor sensor. Additionally, they are not generally calibrated to consider air as less than "excellent" even when it is at a level the W.H.O. consider a problem. Again, there are many reasons to view "auto" features as little more than a marketing gimmick, but rather than make this longer than it already is, I will leave it at that. Run the system 24/7 if you are living in the space OR have it turn on an hour or so before you are home and while home, keep it running at a speed where it is providing *at least* 4 ACH, but preferably more due to the reality that homes are not truly sealed, have doors/windows being opened/closed, new contaminants being introduced regularly, etc. I hope this helps ;-).

    Vital 200s by far . Absolutely important to have a washable pre filter. If you live in a Dust or pollen area you will need to clean that off the pre filter . Or you will shorten the life span of the filter by far . Greatly wish a sound test was done . Absolutely necessary . Many fans have a slight knock or rattle sound to them . That will keep me awake at night . Through the years i have had to throw out fans because of this . Anything fan based

      I've had a core 400s for a couple years.. the pre-filter is extremely easy to clean. Just remove the whole thing and vacuum it off with a shop vac, takes 1 minute. Maybe you don't understand the core 400s filter, does have a pre-filter, it's just part of the 3n1. The vital 200 filter does not have it built in, as it's not a 3n1 filter design. It's separate, but it really makes little to no difference in maintenance, as the 400s filter is super easy to remove and clean.

    The air quality sensor on the 200s is absolutely useless for anything other than smoke! Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way… please check out other reviews on Levoit products which are much more accurate than this channel! 👍🏻

      It's an okay air purifier, but the Vital 200S offers much more, which is why I declared it as the winner here.
