4:30 The penetration of particles through a filter depends on air velocity. Even the fancy IQAir HealthPro Plus has the following in its specifications: HEPA class H13 - MPPS efficiency: ≥ 99.95% @ 0.22 microns at airflow rate ≤ 112 cfm (190 m3/h) HEPA class H12 - MPPS efficiency: ≥ 99.50% @ 0.16 microns at airflow rate ≤ 280 cfm (475 m3/h)
@ we like it so far. Running it in the kitchen and it definitely helped with cooking odors. I’ll give it a month and try another one for our room. Do you personally run one in every room? Thanks
@@johnandstephanie377 A good place to use one. We do have pretty much have one in every room but I do have a lot! plus my wife and sons has quite severe asthma so makes sense to keep the indoor air clean if I can. I think kitchen and bedroom are most important rooms for most people.
around 2021, I realized (or so I thought) that there was gonna be a run on air purifiers, so I picked up one of the only ones I could find -- the winix 5500-2. I liked it well enough that I bought a second one; they're very easy to use and quite sleek.
You got a great one considering how many bad devices were being pushed because of the pandemic! Glad you’re happy with it and thanks for taking the time to share.
Due to the way particle filters work, all of them work well against smaller particles than the .3 microns. If yuo are concerned about first pass filtration only - then a higher grade of HEPA would be better so the Winix. But air purifier work with many passes of air so first pass % isn't as important as lower grade means more airflow so quicker to clean.
Please review the Winix C610. CADR similar to 5500-2 but a lot smaller and different design. I’m curious if similar CADR numbers but in a different design affect REAL world tests. Great work !
The carbon pellet filter will always put the Winix on top for me. I appreciate having an app for my purifier but it's been fine without it. I like both companies, I just needed odor control in my living room so Winix 5500-2 was the winner.
Makes sense and I am always surprised at the carbon amount you get for such a low priced device as it often is more than much higher cost air purifiers! Hopefully Winix don’t realise and start putting the cost up 😅
Could you explain why we shouldn't be concerned that Levoit doesn't have HEPA filters? Other content creators say that this should be an important factor and is why they don't recommend Levoit. It's been a bit confusing trying to make a decision because of this. Thanks!
We were one of the first sites to mention this issue and whilst I think it’s a bad look for Levoit, the fact that they use filters with lower grade will actually make them quicker at removing particles as they have higher air flow. There is a good video on here by another creator called HEPA is a scam that goes into a lot of detail. The core reason is that air purifiers work with multiple passes of air through the filter vs just one pass of air. The perfect grade for an air purifier is H11 but consumers are trained to see higher number is better so that is what the marketing pushes. But agree that Levoit should have been open from day 1 about what grade they used vs changing things after a complaint as this won’t build trust with customers.
I wonder why the third party Levoit brands don't separate the filters. I can see why Levoit would do it for their first party filters. They can squeeze more money out of customers but youd think someone would have figured out a way to separate the carbon and filter layers.
In testing, I found that unbonded filters perform worse, so this might be one reason that generic filters are avoided. I did see some people making their own carbon filters by cutting fabric to the correct size but seems with Levoit you are forced to go down the bonded route even with non first party filters.
I have 2 Levoit Vital 200s at work for our office (company paid for those, benefit of having company Amazon ordering privilege's) and one Vital 200s at home that I bought first before I found the Winix C545 on Winix website for $70 refurbished and well I can buy 2 of those for the price of one Vital 200s. I already bought one and just bought another C545 because the performance at speed 2 (basically silent) on both is effectively the same. The Levoit app is still superior to the C545 but at least it does have an app. I like the app support and the look of the Vital 200s (plus it has a better carbon filter) but I can't justify the difference in price when the air filtering performance is the same.
Getting the Winix C545 for that price does make it hard to have anything compete! For most people the best bang for the buck is likely Winix but I do know lots of people want to pay for a different look/design. Winix seems to have listened as there newer models are a little smaller with more interesting design. But will have to fully test them to see if they can stand up with the solid older models but they do look a little nicer.
Guys, I think there's a typo in the results of noise test. It says that the 5500-2 noise level only 2.5 dB in speed 2. If it's not a problem for you, please review the new Winix 5510.
wouldnt the upgraded levoit filters which have more carbon offset the benifit of the winix having a washable filter you can replace? also wouldnt it make more sense to put the carbon filter of the winix behind the hepa filter since it runs out quicker and simply washing the carbon doesnt revitolize its order neutralizing effects? then you would just vaccum the heppa filter ?? also im not sure the quality of korean products but i dont see any info on the levoit company where its made vs winix
I think the unbonded filter gives more options but the bonded type provide better air cleaning compared to non-bonded in our tests. For air purifiers, Korea made has had a great reputation for build quality for air purifiers. Levoit are Chinese made and I also find their quality very good. The biggest difference in quality of air purifiers is with smaller companies that use off the shelf designs vs those that have put a lot of R and D into their own air purifiers/fan motor designs/motherboards..etc - both Winix and Levoit invest a lot and have many patents.
i recently ordered a replacement filter for my levoit 300. It came with a prefilter that wraps around the filter itself. This gave me an idea to try activated carbon filter cut to fit from Amazon. Do you think you could try some testing of the material as a supplement to standard filters?
I can try but I don’t think there would be much space around the side a good amount of carbon. Also in general the amount of carbon in smaller devices like this is usually very low so only good for minor issues with irregular odors. I’m working on a DIY device that uses carbon used in cannabis grows that would give a lot of carbon in lbs and also can be easily replaced once used at a fairly low cost. Still in the planning stage but excited to see how to performs.
In the videos it always seems like the winix does have a kind of grinding sound or irregular fan speed, is this true? And if, is it on all modes? This is kinda the only concern right now before buying it. And well, not to be able to purchase the carbon separately is a shame, but everything has its flaw it seems.
Have to say I haven’t noticed that with the Winix units but maybe we need to create some videos just showing the sounds in clear detail. Will report back when I have recorded the sounds at each fan speed in detail for the Winix model.
@HouseFresh mine arrived today. As an airflow enthusiast in pc building I immediately noticed backflow of air even at lower speeds, so the inlet shape of the fan is really not optimized. I might try some mods there and also add dampening material, maybe even 3d Print a new fan to have tighter gaps to the outer rim (maybe it performs better than the falcon in under 2 parsecs then :P)
Hello, love the channel. At the end you said review of T810 will come shortly.. im considering buying it.. do you feel its better than levoit everest/400-600 line and Winix pro? Im worried that carbon filter is not in front the HEPA and that its hard to clean since its not removable.. but then again Levoit has the same issues and Winix zero pro is discontinued..
Review is coming soon. Particle performance is good both at high and sub 45dba but very similar to other Winix models. Carbon is impregnated fabric vs pelleted carbon you see in the Levoit or Winix 5500-2. App is nice and does look good so depends how important that is.
Im still testing the Bosch but would choose the Philips as it has more features and app support. With the Bosch you can't turn off the light and still run the fan speeds higher than sleep mode. Super annoying and easy to fix but just wanted to make you aware.
Seems very low CADR around 55 cfm so would be hard to get multiple air changes in even the smallest of rooms. I would reccomend going for something with at least 100 cfm if you can.
I’m in Los Angeles and this video is very timely for us all stuck in the wildfire situation. Thank you!!
I'm sorry what you are all going through! Glad our video could help.

I just started using the Winnex & absolutely love it. It works perfectly.
Great to hear I also like the little tune they play when you switch them on!
Found you on Reddit. Lots of research and watching your videos. Went with the Levoit Vital 200s using your link. Hopefully you get a little kick back

Same I noticed the Coway models also have a little tune also.
I would love a little video with all the tunes 🥰

HEPA is a marketing term now. It's an old standard from the 40s.

You should compare the 5500-2s replacement the 5510
Working on this week !
How about the new 5510? Is it not the predecessor of the 5500-2 finally, after all these years?
I am testing true 5510 at the moment. It’s a little smaller but will wait for the review before sharing more.
video idea: most compact purifier with the most power in a large room
Have filmed this so will release in a week or so! A great idea.

Doh will make sure it’s updated on the web version, thanks for letting me know. Have tested the 5510 will film very soon!
@HouseFresh oh, man, that's great! Thanks!
Regarding the Brand "Levoit" why they have at the end of their products page, the p65warning?
I recall that they mentioned this was based on material used in their plug. Will confirm with them and make clear when we publish the web version.
@@HouseFreshdid you check what it was?
Can I run the Levoit without installing the app?
Yes but won’t be able to set schedules but everything else can be done via on board controls.

Sadly as its cylindrical design the pre-filter is attached to the pre-filter like we see in the Levoit Core series.

Unfortunately i can't get the 200s in the UK
Yes it supper annoying as I have heard from people on here that the vital 200s is now available in Germany! Come on Levoit bring it to Blighty!
Team Winix, not very exciting or fancy but a solid performer
Have to agree with that. A solid work horse of an air purifier.
Hello can you review the Taurus High Landscapes ? They announced 350 CADR with 38w.
I will check it out as those specs seem very promising. I haven’t heard of the brand before have you used their devices before?
@HouseFresh I known the brand as steam cleaning equipments, they were reliable and cost fare. But I don't know how they are in this area of business
Its good they have a reputation in other areas so thank you for sharing that. Will try to get this unit for testing soon.
what do you think about UFESA PF4500 Silent Air Purifier 35W?
Seems very low CADR around 55 cfm so would be hard to get multiple air changes in even the smallest of rooms. I would reccomend going for something with at least 100 cfm if you can.
