Winix 5500 and Coway Mighty are decent units for smaller spaces but they are not the "Best" for particulate filtration on the market. They are good for "general air quality improvement". Some folks need better filtration.
Actually, the Winix 5500-2 has been tested to remove 99.7% of particulates down to .3 microns, whereas the Coway and Blueair was only able to achieve 85% removal. The Coway will "recycle the air faster, at the expense of filtration. The big question here is, how well will these units purify the air after 6 months, as there filters begin to fill up? The expensive units filtration will last longer (generally) and cover larger areas, but "most" consumer grade air purifiers will clean the air to some degree. The Winix is a great unit. Sure, as the filters get clogged, air might pass around the HEPA filter a bit. Solution. Change the air filters. Air will find the path of least resistance, and a dirty air filter (in any unit), will cause air to "seep" through and behind the filter. If you want the "best" air filtration, you are going into a price category/range most folk would not be able to afford.
1) I totally agree with you that the big question is how well the units filter after some "Real World" use. THAT is the big issue, for sure. Short Lab tests with clean filters is NOT indicative of how they will really perform for consumers in the long run. 2) And I agree with you that "most" consumer grade air purifiers will clean the air to some degree, as well. 3) That said, I have an older Winix 5500 (@ 6 years old) and I highly doubt it ever actually filters at a HEPA level (even with new filters). It is not sealed well inside the air purifier at all. I actually did a video on it as you can see clumps of dust on the sides of the HEPA filter and you can see visible dust behind the filter, as well. I was shocked at how much it was leaking dirty air. I will be getting one of the newer ones in the near future to see if they sealed the filters better. But from a few of the pictures I have seen - it looks like they didn't which would be very disappointing. But I want to get one to check it. 4) Can you please give a link to the source where you see the Coway, Blueair and Winix test results? and the other two were only at 85%? That would be helpful to me. Thanks!👍 @@heatherphilips9227
I just opened the new Winix 5500 and they did not fix the sealing problem they had with the older unit. When you jiggle the unit you can literally hear and feel the filters move around inside the unit so there is NO WAY this unit is ever filtering at a HEPA level, IMO. They say "Winix True HEPA Captures 99.99%* of airborne allergens.... and other ultrafine particles as small as .003 microns" on their website - but I do not believe this can possibly be the case as the filters are not sealed inside the unit. Ditto the Coway Mighty - I just opened one of those, as well. It is designed very similarly to the 5500. @@heatherphilips9227
How big is the area and how heavy is the dander/allergen load? At least with my rabbit, a lot of filtration power is needed to pull floating fur out of the air in a larger room. From the odor side, most filters are not that great at this unless they contain very large amounts (i.e., several pounds or more) of carbon and/or zeolite. Filters like the Austin Air Healthmate and IQAir Multigas can remove odors (and VOCs) because they each contain over 10 pounds of carbon. However, they are large, loud, and expensive. Smaller filters that contain carbon pre-filters generally are not nearly as good at this and they will struggle to remove the ammonia smell.
@@Sun.n.Flowers Hi Ana, my air situation is a lot more severe than most (marijuana smoke from neighbors and then some.) And I returned my Rabbit Air and settled on a Honeywell HPA300 - a rather large size, for a regular bedroom. I'm happy with it overall, but unfortunately it can only do so much for the smell. I also have a Levoit Core 600S in my living room running constantly. Again: nothing short of moving out at this point will help me deal with the situation. But yes Honeywell and Levoit Core 600 are my recommendations :)!

On your review and comparisons, Xiaomi 3H has good review. I was looking to buy it but it seems its not on the top picks Any thoughts or changes on opinion on the performance of that brand ?
I haven't tested the Xiaomi Mi 4 Pro, but I believe it is an excellent air purifier and great value for money. There is just not enough place to put all the air purifiers I have tested on the list of the best buying suggestions. There must be some sort of selection! But, If the Xiaomi Mi 3H is not on the list, it doesn't mean it is not worth it and is not a good device; on the contrary, it is a fantastic air purifier.
Have you ever make air quality in the room test without air purifier ? I mean if you wait 60 min all dusts fall down the room surface so maybe air purifier just placebo affect. One of my friend work related sector and she says not really affective gadget for home.
Yes, I actually have, because I also wanted to be sure that the air purifiers actually work. I also tested the air purifier with a filter taken out of it, and it made unnoticeable changes in the air quality. So, I did perform many different tests. From all the tests I've done, I noticed that the air purifier won't only reduce/collect dust but also pollen, odors, hair, and many other pollutants, so definitely it's not a placebo.
That's probably because this air purifier is really good, so it is reasonable and normal to get out of the stock sometimes. But, no worries. I am sure it will become available soon.
Yeah, I reviewed mostly US air purifiers. In the following year, I will do more reviews of Xiaomi, Phillips, and other widely available air purifiers. Actually, the Levoit Core 400S is compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
I'm here watching these because those cute and extra fluff features didn't actually offset the fact that I found Xiaomi's replacement filters to be the backend "catch" I essentially backed myself into after chasing down great "better then the american stuff" surface value. In the end I just want something I can plop down and have it clean air. And *NOT* having to continuously drop $50 on cheaply made replacement filters that are designed to need constant replacing matters a whole lot more to me then whether i can talk to a device, use a phone app, or whatever else people feel is necessary to replace that literal .1 second it takes to physically a push button before walking away leaving it to do it's thing.

@@heatherphilips9227
what do you think about xiaomi air purifier? its very popular in my country, but am not sure it legit or not cause its quite cheap
Indian company junk
My Coway worked great for about eight months then stopped sensing. Coway support is worthless.
Hello. Do you have air purifier you suggest that uses washable hepa filter ? I am tired of buying filters that eating my money literally.
The Honeywell AirGenius 5 is the one!
@@AirPurifierFirst in consumer analysis report it says it is not actual hepa filter :(
No, it's not because the HEPA is a paper-based filter, which can't be washed. This Honeywell is the one I rated as the best one with washable filters.
CAN'T WASH HEPA FILTERS.
I have an Arbox aevos and it s perfect
Thanks for the suggestion!
Please test the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Lite, 4, and 4Pro
Thanks for the suggestion!
Best for litter box odors & my fur babies allergies?
It would have been useful to considere non-Hepa type filtrations systems such as Airdog products. Overall great review!
can you please do this for the Rabbit Air Bio GS or tell me in advance which you recommend between that and Alen Flex?
Both are of high quality, so buy whichever you like more.
@@AirPurifierFirst went with the Rabbit Air. We shall see!
Am debating alen or rabbit
@@EphesianRose How did it go with the Rabbit Air? Have you tried the wall mountable Rabbit Air? Is it better than the Levoit 400 or 600s ?
@@Sun.n.Flowers Hi Ana, my air situation is a lot more severe than most (marijuana smoke from neighbors and then some.) And I returned my Rabbit Air and settled on a Honeywell HPA300 - a rather large size, for a regular bedroom. I'm happy with it overall, but unfortunately it can only do so much for the smell. I also have a Levoit Core 600S in my living room running constantly. Again: nothing short of moving out at this point will help me deal with the situation. But yes Honeywell and Levoit Core 600 are my recommendations :)!
How do you turn off the plasma manually?
Just press the PlasmaWave button. It is located in the middle of the control panel.
That doesn’t work. It’s not a button…just a light.
Below the light you mentioned is the PlasmaWave button; it looks the same as other buttons on the device. One more hint, it is the next one after the Mode button.
Curious why the Core 600S is not on this list :(
On your review and comparisons, Xiaomi 3H has good review. I was looking to buy it but it seems its not on the top picks
Any thoughts or changes on opinion on the performance of that brand ?
how about mi smart air purifier 3H or 4 pro? not good? not recommendation?
You made a video with top pick link to something "Currently unavailable." :)
That's probably because this air purifier is really good, so it is reasonable and normal to get out of the stock sometimes. But, no worries. I am sure it will become available soon.
Cool. Mostly US stuff and with quite outdated smart features not compatible with Google Home/Nest. I'm going with Xiaomi.
Yeah, I reviewed mostly US air purifiers. In the following year, I will do more reviews of Xiaomi, Phillips, and other widely available air purifiers.
Actually, the Levoit Core 400S is compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
@@AirPurifierFirst I'm waiting then :)
What about Mi purifier
I have tested the Xiaomi Mi 3H and Xiaomi 4 Compact air purifiers and plan to test the Xiaomi 4 Lite in the following weeks. You can find reviews of the first two mentioned on the channel or on the Air Purifier First website.
hi there, i am watching this in 2023 already, but i wonder why there aren't any tcl ones in the comparision, when you praised them pretty well and also they are cheaper.
The TCL breeva A2 and A3 are excellent air purifiers but do not have the capacity for this list.
So many different types shapes and prises etc etc yet they all do the same thing !!
No Mila or Molecule?
I haven't tested the Mila air purifier yet. As for the Molekule, it didn't perform well in our test. Please find the Molekule Air review on the link below:

I found cheaper phillips by not using the link provided. FYI
Highly competitive market. BEWARE.
You failed to mention ions and ozone...2 very dangerous air purity issues for lung patients i.e. asthma, COPD CARDIAC FAILURE allergies. Where's the truth here???
its all about how good the filter is this is bolloks

If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!
