It was a typical Friday night in 1998... I was 11... My father would load up windows 98. There was a folder on the desktop with some games. NFS 1, NFS 2, Starwars, MDK, Road Rash, The incredible machine.. My parents were out the back by the pool with music and drinks. Friday night was always a celebration of the week with take away and good times. I was upstairs playing games with excitement and not a care in the world.. This track has the ability to take me right back there and I'm not sure if the happy/sad emotion of nostalgia comes from missing those simpler times or a desire to relive those years long ago. Or maybe it's something more physical like your brain firing nuerons down an old synapse that hasn't see activity in a long while.. Quite literally like a trip down memory lane.. Perhaps when you experience something it's like taking a snap shot of your life and body at that moment in time and when you revisit that memory later there's a level of longing to return to that physical and mental space. Songs like this I choose not to listen to very often as I want to keep that feeling alive and not lose the memory of how truly heavenly life was back then..
I jammed this in my truck this morning on my way to work. God the emotions and feelings I have when I hear this is something I will never forget as a kid. Fuck I'm 31 now and remember playing this with my dad and brother like it was yesterday on our big ass Zenith TV in the downstairs basement. McLaren F1 was my favorite car to use. This is where my obsession for super cars started, this is what gave me the Need For Speed.
I just happened to be researching the BMW M12 and C2, came across this track in the background of one of the videos of the game, I kept trying to Shazam it, thinking it had to be by some big trance artist. Shocked it's a NFS exclusive, and Rom made this at the age of 26. I have no nostalgia for this track as I've never heard it before or played this game, but it legitimately is a good track.
Right there with u I'm about to be 30 the end of December and the yrs have gone by quick too quick . I use to sit and let the main menu stay on and not play just to listen to this song
Exactly, same. stay 10-15 min in menu before starting the game that lasted 30-45 min to quit , get back in menu and ending the gamesession with again 10min in the menu listening to the soundtrack, back then when we the 90's kids where happy and could enjoy the little things, remember it clearly with HITMAN contracts over and over again that killer music
I used to love Mclaren because it was the fastest. When i was in the first grade the teacher told me " Say a word that starts with M " ( She expected to say Mother ) i said " Mclaren "
This along duke nuke 3D, sim city, original age of empires, so many great games. NFS series is certainly my favorite, up to Porsche unleashed. Still play all these soundtracks when I drive, the only way to re-live these games.
Not starting a war but all NFS games had great tracks back then, sometimes I'd sit in MainMenu for hours listening just to music :) All changed with NFS: Underground, Rap music and the silly JDM/drift culture of the turn of century.
Nah, it‘s the 80s for me, coming from a 16 year old. (Didn’t live in either so I’m not biased like that) But the 90s definitely had it too, I’d say 2nd
After all these years. I'm 30 years old (born in 93) and going back to the roots. People say the roots involved cops....little do they know about NFS 1 and 2.
I mean, you kind of can. Just whip out the old game console. This is why I never throw away technology. It may become expired but you won't be able to play the older stuff on the newer hardware.
Best NFS song ever. Played this on my Dell Precision P1 75MHz 64MB Ram and a 2GB Harddrive. I would let the main menu stay open until the music looped again, then start the first race :).
Man this song brings back memories. When i hear that music I am 14 again, sitting in a room next to the cellar door, my cousin and I playing this game, on split screen, with one keyboard. On my first PC in 1998, in a room that no longer exists. And thanks to this song I remember every detail of that moment.
I hear ya brother. I had this game too, but on the PlayStation. And man did I enjoy the heck out of this game. It was a summer night many years ago, parents were out of town on a beach trip for the weekend. My big sis was in charge, but ended up going out with her friends to a house party that night, leaving me alone. I remember her asking "Will you be okay by yourself while I'm out?" I was completely okay with being alone, because I had a long night of gaming planned. In the living room my PlayStation waited for me along with a stack of games: NFSII, Syphon Filter, Tomb raider 3, just to name a few off the top of my head. I sat in the darkness, with only the glow of the TV screen, a 2 liter of Pepsi and a bag of Doritos to keep me company as I played on through the night, and not a care in the world. Probably one of my best memories as a teen. Do I miss that time? Absolutely, as I'm sure you do as well. I'd give just about anything to go back..
Man, finding songs like this is a whole other level of sensation when it's something you used to hear a lot as a kid but haven't heard in over twenty years
Decades have passed, lovers have gone, family members have left and moved to the other side..and still thos song holds more menories for me than I can count..I was 6 when this game launched and never will forget buying it. Endless weekends and endless hours..sometimes just loading up to listen to the main menu for thos song.. its amazing how one song can change so much of you,not many can say that. Proud to have been born in 88' and have this as a solid memory of an amazing childhood. Now in my mid 30s having a fun fast car to bang this all the time gives me goosebumps I can only say if you know you know..Thank you Rom for dedicating your life to this track. You've done so much for so many younglings at that time❤💜
I remember sometimes I stayed in the main menu screen for a long time to finish this masterpiece. Thank you Rom Di Prisco and thank you Creative Sound Blaster.
Its 2024, and it's been 27 years since i heard this song for the first time, and still i keep hearing it whenever i drive my car for a long riding specialy when its raining and there is trees on the side of the highway roads We keep this song alive ❤

I play this in my work truck or doing research on future car perchases, Rom Di Prisco thank you for making this sound track as over the years it gives me motivation and ambition to do more and it's a reminder of my brother who passed away in 2015 but introduced me to this kind of music along with playing need for speed as a kid he's my inspiration to do more not just for myself but those around me. Thank you!
I was born in 1999, but thankfully my parents gave me some older titles to play as a kid, so I got to experience this masterpiece as well as NFS III. So I just had to fire up the game again after listening to this track. Drove a quick 4 laps on North Country with the Esprit V8 against Class A opponents. Well… I still got it :)
This great music instantly brings back memories of me flying over 200 mph in the awesome Ferrari F50 and watching the F50 showcase video over and over again. Good times!
McLaren was the fastest only on Proving Grounds and maybe on Outback, but Ferrari was the fastest on medium tracks and Lotus GT1 on the hardest ones (in Mystic Peaks, McLaren will stay far behind GT1). In reality it's the same - F50 had more downforce oriented aerodynamics, so it corners better in high speeds, while McL F1 has less downforce so it can achieve that incredible topspeed.
My first "new era" driving game" one a Pentium II @233Mhz and felt like a king , after Lotus III in a 386 Intel .. I was like 14 back then.. 38 now , hard to believe that 25 years passed already
This music is eternal and we will always follow it until we grow old. Or we won't lose our minds. But I hope that even there, in her old age, she will play quietly next to us or in our heads, running through excerpts from a beautiful and carefree childhood in her memory 🙌🏽
I used to play this game with my sister, sharing a single computer. I'm no longer on speaking terms with her, but this song caused me such strong nostalgia that it made me long to turn back the clock
I can even smell my friends old room back then when we were kids and I didnt have an own pc... The smell of potato chips and coke :D Split screen !!!!!
I have a very similar memory of playing this with my friend. Sadly, he died in Oct '97 only a few months after this came out. This game always reminds me of him.
I always knew there was some racing game from my childhood that had sick, high-stakes house music in it. Couldn't remember what the hell it was, then I rediscovered this absolute gem. Video game soundtracks are profoundly influential on ones musical taste, and this banger is no exception.
I remember buying this game when I was a kid at Radioshack when it first came out. Had a pentium II with 256MB of ram, 4GB HDD. One of my favourite racing games. Good memories
niceprince i was talking about production cars beside modified cars with small engines and huge outputs were not somthing you can drive everyday without having problems this is still true today and we have not talked about how stable these productions cars compared to super cars at high speed forcing 2 liter to 3.5 liter engine to produce 700hp and more will not last as long as larger engines that meant to produce that power comfortably all day long another thing is if you try to make a normal sedan go fast it will alot harder to do so than to make a 8.4 liter engine dodge viper go faster because of the foundation this car has. adding forced induction to a tiny engine and making that engine hold atleast for months (with daily use) takes alot than what you think lets see what the companies like mercedes have to say about it mercedes c200 has a turbocharged 2 liter 240 hp mercedes c63 a hand assembled 6.3 V8 engine 520hp or somthing ? and still live long...
Faisal Abdulaziz Supercars are not known for being reliable daily drivers. Especially in the 90s. However the tuner cars proved themselves to be every bit as capable. The best Wangan racers known BlackBird and the Devil Z would do 180+ for 15 mins at a time. Which are hypercar standards. In the 90s. Look it up.
niceprince wangan black bird and devil Z ? are these even real ? not sure... i know these from manga and japanese animation why do you think there are 8 cylinder 10 cylinder 12 cylinder and 16 cylinder passenger cars ? find me one 2-liter 4 cylinder that is producing 500 hp and made it to 400000 miles ...you will have better luck searching for a unicorn...no matter how well these are made .... the old super cars suffered electrical problems mainly....but all can be mended and upgraded aswell and if you increases the power on one of these large engines they will still make it a lot further than 250 000 miles 400 000 + 4 cylinder 600hp or more ? ... dont even try you probably rebuild it 6 times to make it that far or even crack the block on the third build from over stressing the tiny engine...
Yes they are real cars... the manga and anime are based off of real tuner cars. I can guarantee you that no Ferrari or Lambo etc is making it to 400,000 miles without a rebuild. Most of those cars have mandatory engine rebuilds at well before even 200k miles. No one expects any car tuner car pushing out 500+ horsepower to last that many miles. It's unrealistic to try. However you want to slice it. The fact remains that tuners can push cheaper cars well into the territory of exotic performance and outperform them as well, If you want to bring other factors into it such as price and build and comfort then that is another argument all together.
To this day being 27, this tune still brings that nostalgia to me, early 2000s memories of the first pc i had along with some FPS classics , glad i grew up with these games : D
для многих первая нфс была андеграунд, и это меня бесило, но щас уже новое поколение, они уже и в андеграунд не играли, а про легендарную порше вобще забытая годнота...
I remember coming home after school and turning on my computer to play this game. Level after level trying to beat the mcclaren. Hearing this song in the menu after sooo many years gives me chills. Now in 2020 I know I’m not the only one with this feeling. Glad to be a part of the NFS community when it was good.
Rom is still THE MAN, even after all these years. God, how I miss the amazing music of the pre-2000 NFS titles. Back then, you could hear the first few seconds of ANY track and PINPOINT the game it played in in a heartbeat. Those games had IDENTITY thanks to these amazing tunes. Now they could just juggle up the various crap they put into the NFS games nowadays and they would still all sound the same. Granted, there are exceptions but they are indeed exceptions rather than rules.
listen to those arpeggios at the beginning. especially start from 1:41 . (ignore the thumping drum and bass. im talking about the arps) if you meet aliens that travels thousand of light years away, and you give them some rock music like U2 songs or linkin park or some pop musics or taylor swift songs or some rap musics, they will go like "what the F is this??" . because they wont get it. its too LINEAR. they have lived in the days where spatial understanding is not merely horizontal the way we see things due to us living on the surface of the planet the entire time. for us humans we are stimulated more by "vibration" we feel instead of what the sound stimulate in our brains. thats why we prefer bass and thumping kicks in musics. super advanced species prefer intelligent stimulations than merely sensational vibrations. so when you give them THIS music here in this video they will be like "oh this is good!". their brain can make sense to it. these arps stimulates SPATIAL perceptions in their mind. those chains of notes in the arps acting like series of vector points. something those space travelling types minds will appreciate. even in your scientific neural research, the most intelligent people have the best "spatial" perceptions. correlation between brain's spatial /geometrical perceptions to intellect/intelligence(not human espionage intelligence. those are menace. not intelligent.)
Incredible that by then at the end of the 90s they could make something sound so classy 90' and also with a futuristic touch. Not even compared with the crap nowadays.
"Ok dude, it's just the main menu track. Don't go too hard."
Rom Di Prisco:
Rom is just too humble.
He also made the original Fortnite theme

I reckon you will love the remix of this song by Mick Gordon made for the Wii version of NFS The Run

born in 1991 and this was my very first pc game. and nfs is the reason, why i love cars and electronic music.
thank you!
Listening to this cool techno music once again after 20 years. It has been 20 years!?? I feel so old!
25 💁♂
This music is eternal and we will always follow it until we grow old. Or we won't lose our minds. But I hope that even there, in her old age, she will play quietly next to us or in our heads, running through excerpts from a beautiful and carefree childhood in her memory 🙌🏽
A CERTIFIED 90's HOOD CLASSIC.
I used to play this game with my sister, sharing a single computer. I'm no longer on speaking terms with her, but this song caused me such strong nostalgia that it made me long to turn back the clock
You should resolve those differences if you can. Life is too damn short to hold a grudge, especially toward family.
This was and will remain a feeling for everyone...
Amen
Pure classic right here booting up the gsme and now knowing what you are in store for great gsme and ost awesome memories
We have to remember this until we die.
We, the generation of 80' and 90'
Last normal people on this plantet
Love you
TRUTH!
You're too kind. 😊
As a person born in 2007 i can't help but agree with this.
I finallly found it!!! Take me back!!! Now!!!!!
I can even smell my friends old room back then when we were kids and I didnt have an own pc... The smell of potato chips and coke :D
Split screen !!!!!
I have a very similar memory of playing this with my friend. Sadly, he died in Oct '97 only a few months after this came out. This game always reminds me of him.
holy shit that's so sad. sorry to hear that dude.
or dr. pepper
I only have an AMD K6-2 533mhz and 128 mb of ram. :D Still runs well tho.
You rich bastards. I had a pentium 133 with 8mb ram and 512mb hdd. 😒🙄🤣
the best car game ever...
This song is coming to Need For Speed 2015 tomorrow. I'm so excited for the nostalgia. :D
Never heard it in that game D:
Let´s Günter it play sometines in garage

That’s because it doesn’t sound good at al
90s ...when super cars were unmatched...and super saloons were not wide spread yet ..
+Faisal Abdulaziz Well they kind of were surpassed by tuners that races on the Wangan in Japan but other than that...

i was talking about production cars
beside modified cars with small engines and huge outputs were not somthing you can drive everyday without having problems
this is still true today and we have not talked about how stable these productions cars compared to super cars at high speed
forcing 2 liter to 3.5 liter engine to produce 700hp and more will not last as long as larger engines that meant to produce that power comfortably all day long
another thing is if you try to make a normal sedan go fast it will alot harder to do so than to make a 8.4 liter engine dodge viper go faster because of the foundation this car has.
adding forced induction to a tiny engine and making that engine hold atleast for months (with daily use) takes alot than what you think
lets see what the companies like mercedes have to say about it
mercedes c200 has a turbocharged 2 liter 240 hp
mercedes c63 a hand assembled 6.3 V8 engine 520hp or somthing ? and still live long...
In the 90s. Look it up.
niceprince
wangan black bird and devil Z ?
are these even real ?
not sure...
i know these from manga and japanese animation
why do you think there are 8 cylinder 10 cylinder 12 cylinder and 16 cylinder passenger cars ?
find me one 2-liter 4 cylinder that is producing 500 hp and made it to 400000 miles ...you will have better luck searching for a unicorn...no matter how well these are made ....
the old super cars suffered electrical problems mainly....but all can be mended and upgraded aswell
and if you increases the power on one of these large engines they will still make it a lot further than 250 000 miles
400 000 + 4 cylinder 600hp or more ? ...
dont even try
you probably rebuild it 6 times to make it that far
or even crack the block on the third build from over stressing the tiny engine...
The 'classic' NFS titles truly had an identity unique to them and them alone!!
I imagine this is what someone would hear when they see a mclaren f1 parked in their garage open its doors and turn on..
Adithya Ramakrishnan fuck yah! was thinking the same thing
Your personal background theme song
rom di prisco is just a legend
To this day being 27, this tune still brings that nostalgia to me, early 2000s memories of the first pc i had along with some FPS classics , glad i grew up with these games : D
Ностальгия !!!!!!! Боже как скучаю за этими временами
для многих первая нфс была андеграунд, и это меня бесило, но щас уже новое поколение, они уже и в андеграунд не играли, а про легендарную порше вобще забытая годнота...
My favorite song of all time. Thank you for uploading all of the NFS soundtracks; they bring me so much nostalgia and happiness!
Man... This Song gives me the chills even after 20 Years.
1:42 WOW!! ✨🎶👏 Jaw dropping music 🤯
Rom Di Prisco made his role in this life for sure. He should be proud of it. A lot of people will be remember him always...Thank you!
I remember coming home after school and turning on my computer to play this game. Level after level trying to beat the mcclaren. Hearing this song in the menu after sooo many years gives me chills. Now in 2020 I know I’m not the only one with this feeling. Glad to be a part of the NFS community when it was good.
when i was a child, mostly when i started play this game, i mostly just stay to listen the menu soundtracks.
Whenever I hear this music, it brings back memories of my college days.
Essa música é atemporal ❤
Thx for this song , its op .
Omfg, the amount of old memories it brought back
It’s just a good song. Totally forgot about it. Brings back memories of partying and good times when I was 8.
BEST NFS TRACK EVER
It was pure nostalgia when ea put this song on NFS 2015
One of the best game music in my entire life.
The feels goddammit!
listen to those arpeggios at the beginning. especially start from 1:41 . (ignore the thumping drum and bass. im talking about the arps)
if you meet aliens that travels thousand of light years away, and you give them some rock music like U2 songs or linkin park or some pop musics or taylor swift songs or some rap musics, they will go like "what the F is this??" . because they wont get it. its too LINEAR. they have lived in the days where spatial understanding is not merely horizontal the way we see things due to us living on the surface of the planet the entire time.
for us humans we are stimulated more by "vibration" we feel instead of what the sound stimulate in our brains. thats why we prefer bass and thumping kicks in musics. super advanced species prefer intelligent stimulations than merely sensational vibrations.
so when you give them THIS music here in this video they will be like "oh this is good!". their brain can make sense to it. these arps stimulates SPATIAL perceptions in their mind. those chains of notes in the arps acting like series of vector points. something those space travelling types minds will appreciate.
even in your scientific neural research, the most intelligent people have the best "spatial" perceptions. correlation between brain's spatial /geometrical perceptions to intellect/intelligence(not human espionage intelligence. those are menace. not intelligent.)
Wayy better than today's Dubstep shit!A true legend : Rom Di Prisco
The best part is that you can play this game in a modern pc without any problems thanks to mods. I’m not sure about the online portion yet 😊
This and NFS 3 were the best NFS soundtracks ever.
back almost 25 years in time there is me playing this game with 6 years old
From 0:54 to 1:14, probably some of the best 20 seconds of my life
I always waited for the song to end before starting a race. What a fucking theme. He is the genius of main menus.
This song is of a bygone era. We will never see it again. Listening to this sends shivers up my spine.
This song is on nfs 2015 if you get the legends update
Incredible that by then at the end of the 90s they could make something sound so classy 90' and also with a futuristic touch. Not even compared with the crap nowadays.
