    I don't get why people comment that the build is going to slow. I love learning about all the different components and the satisfying slow process to rebuid the car. And once it is build, the series will be over (besides some awesome action footage we all hope off course). And then on to the next build!!! DO NOT BECOME A LIFESTYLE VLOGGER TAVARISH :) Wrench every day!!! Salut from Belgium.

      i did say the same thing u said a few days ago.. ppl were acting like this shit was supposed to be done in 2 days. lol... but idk, i am now thinking too much time is going into the bs turbo. honestly he would be better off without the turbo. who the hell needs a turbo on a v10 lambo anyway? overkill unless u are using it as a straight up racecar. and even then, the amount of stress putting on this mega expensive lambo engine... this aint no honda civic. this is a v10 lambo! u put this on the dyno it could wind up blowing something up in the engine and that will be a very bad day. too much boost break a bearing in the engine. that would be terrible.

      It should go through the gears fine.... until the flywheel comes flying off because the bolts were only torqed to 70ftlb.
      I sure hope he got back in there off camera and torqued them properly with new bolts.

    Make sure the flow rates match pretty close to each turbo, or you may get uneven horsepower between the banks of your engine, also the rust dust going into the cooler and oil lines of the center section made me cringe.

    Hi Tavarish, I love the build. I work for a company that manufactures balancing and vibration analysis machines. That missing material will attribute to the unbalance of the turbine, the formula is U(unbalance)=m(mass)*r(radius), now the formula for centrifugal force generated by this is Cf= 1.76*Unbalance*(n/1000)^2. In essence, the unbalance caused by the missing material at a radius directly correlates to centrifugal force generated

    Should have had the turbine replaced, it's not integral to the shaft. Should have had the housings powdercoated and ceramic coated. That white won't stay nice for long and won't be easy to clean.

      Powder coating won't hold up to the heat. I had a 280ZX and if you drove it hard the turbo would glow red. Powder coating is baked on at around 400 degrees and a turbo gets WAY hotter than that. In fact I am willing to bet that the paint won't won't hold up either.

      Obviously I meant powdercoat the compressor cover and ceramic coat the cartridge and turbine housing, I'm well aware that powdercoat is basically just a plastic.

    Does the primer accept high temperatures? Black is heat radiant whereas white is heat reflective.....but not to worry...in your usage it probably will make little difference. Borg Warner should offer a coated version of the turbo but I suppose they say it makes no performance difference - just an aesthetic. The red twin turbo Lambo was dynoed at just a few hp under 800....you are not going to reach 1000 hp at the wheels without some extra money and work....most likely.

    hey @Tavarish! you need to sand blast the turbos - using the wire wheel does not remove rust properly, but polishes a rusty surface into something that only APPEARS rust-free! Meaning it'll just come back. And if you paint them as you suggested earlier, the paint won't stick.

    You can sequential turbocharge the Lambo. Since you have one small and one big turbo. Now you just have to route it correctly to get that setup.

    Not sure if anyone else mentioned this but just want to point out that the turbines are not made of titanium. Nearly all modern day turbos use Inconel, which is used alot in aviation. Titanium becomes brittle after exposure to high temperatures/oxygen/carbon and wouldn't last long. Yea you could have probably just had the turbine and compressor wheel rebalanced, the chip wouldn't of caused much of a difference. The compressor cover paint will be fine. We painted diesel covers with only 500 degree paint and they sit right in the valley. Center section would probably need to be jet hot coated to really look decent after any amount of time. Keep up the work. I know you're throwing out these videos fast and what you're doing is alot of work, but I'd try to some research when ya got spare time. Can't wait to see it fire up. 👍

    Doing great on the build. Love watching.
    One thing to watch out for is that adhesion promoter. That stuff really isn't a high temp tolerant material. We , auto paint guys, usually use it on plastic surfaces. You really need a good high temp epoxy primer over iron to protect against rust and proper surface quality for top coat paint. Just a heads up

    Phosphoric acid. you can get it at lowes or home despot. Dip your iron in it, and it will develop a dark-grey, passivated coating that will resist rust. dip it in water and baking soda after to neutralize the acid.

      They are the exact same spec, just the turbine housing was different and can (and will) be swapped over.

      But he painted the "cold" side, the compressor side. And the broken part is the turbine. From my understanding the setup is asymmetrical, the "hot" end, turbine, is smaller on the new turbo. I wish I was wrong but to me it seems like it may produce lots of tuning problems!

      Ok, I've watched it again and it seems the only differences are the housings. The bladed cores are exactly the same (SuperCore). No problem then!

    Painting the compressor housings white lowers the thermal emissivity. Probably not significant but its like an "untune". You rock, thanks for your efforts for our entertainment and education

    You might consider buying another turbo like that new one and use those for the build...and rebuild the other two and resell them..which you might be able to do without losing too much $. You'll have two bright shiny turbos blinging on the arse end of the lambo!

      Crazy 8s Drums that makes more sense. I'm thinking he's going to have some serious issues later by not using two turbos balanced exactly the same. The old turbo might not produce the same boost. The ECU is going to go nuts.

      My suggestion is a bit serious....as we have already discovered one failed turbo from engine related issues. That other turbo would have been subjected to the very same environment that the first turbo was in...and it failed. You sure don't want a turbo blade sucked in the combustion chamber! (or lodged into the intercooler...or wherever it may end up in.)

      He said in a earlier video that the fin was bent, he tried to straighten it and it broke off on the work bench, the broken fin is not in the mechanics of the car. I do think though he is more concerned of how it looks rather than how it performs as I think trying to balance the boost with 2 different turbos is going to be a nightmare. I know paint does not give much performance and I think the primer is going to burn off the turbo and so will the high heat paint. I have seen several cringe worthy moments on this build already, I keep watching the same way someone that hates horror movies covers their eyes with their hands but watches through their fingers.

    What you might not be aware of with cast iron is that it only rusts so deep then stops. If you re-shine the surface you will be allowing it to go deeper.

    if you see this..TAVARISH.. knife edge the hot side inlet on the turbo to improve the flow, with you not needing divided housings.

    Man you are discouraging me,
    You bought a smaller turbo ( that will surely make the engine banks unbalanced)for 1600 while you could have both of them rebuild for the same price and be assured they will work fine. And what about the old one you will use on your car, you say that the car did not run for 3 years, what about the seals inside this turbo?, are they dried up so after a while it will start to leak and suck up the engine oil and make a fine runaway engine.

      It's an 8374 center section with a different exhaust housing, swap over the exhaust housing from the old one and you have the exact same turbo. If the seals in the old turbo are bad then there could be issues but it's best to just get it running and see how they're holding up (they're not terribly fragile, after all). The way this is setup he should be able to remove that old turbo and send it off to be rebuilt if there are any issues with it.

    Good call on the new turbo! If it was me I would send the other one out for a rebuild. Those bearings take quite a beating. I would hate to see it fail after all your hard work. Still hoping to hear it fire up this week. Wrench every day!

      I think he had to go back to the wooden mock-up because he fucked up the turbo support brace design by bolting them to the gearbox instead of the car's frame and needs to redo them. The turbos will be the same once he swaps the turbine housing over.

    You'll like POR15 High Temp paint. I used it on the turbo and exhaust manifold on my Audi UrS4 back in 2001 (it was called POR20 back then) and it is STILL looking good over 100k miles later. Caveat - it takes nearly ten years to come off your skin if you don't wear gloves. ;-)

    Now why didn't u get those powder coated? Not sure if someone has already asked that question. Stop painting stuff brotha!! There is a reason powder coating get has been proven over and over again to be more reliable and durable. And you can do it yourself.

      Paint might stick to the aluminum but it's going to burn right off the iron center part the first drive cycle.

      I worked at Caterpillar Engine Division for 20 years (Mossville IL) where we built engines and painted turbos (before powder coat existed). It lasts a bit longer than most here are suggesting, but not forever. Powder coat is an improved application method, not a panacea. The powder coat still burns off eventually.

    Once you've finished the lambo can you do the projects like the Mercedes manual conversion and the mr2 turbo etc pls I think we would all like to see it and now your channel has grown so much (congrats) those builds would get a load more love which they deserve

    I don't know if is the same for turbo blades, but when I dealt with the turbine in a helicopter, we used gloves when we touched the blades. The oil on your hands can become an issue for the longevity.

    1600 isn't a terrible price for a new turbo! I live in Nevada and would have spent another 1000 just to get it here in a timely matter... love your channel man keep it up, I can't wait to see 1000+hp from that bad boy. 🖒🖒🤘🤘👍👍

    You're going to want to buy a matching, new, turbo for the other side. Everything the first turbo endured, the second one did as well. Also, if the paint used is only a 1200 degree max it will cook off after the first good run in the car. Exhaust gas temps get in the 1200's pretty easy with turbo vehicles

      It’s a miracle that the car has even made it this far!

      KirkerBezerker Realistically For how long he has been working on it he should be a lot further on into the build. I'm not talking trash or anything. And I understand he's not a certified mechanic. But it nearly took a whole week to just get the turbos mocked up. It is good that he's taking his time and getting it done with quality.

    Bro, make sure you clearcoat the white aswell with high heat clear. Otherwise, I hate for you to wash the engine one day with brake cleaner or engine degreaser and the white start to drip off.
    Also, it gives it a nice shine to it aswell. I did it to my turbos and I 100% glad I did.

    The VHT peeled off of my turbo after a few heat cycles, and that’s after it was stripped, hit with high heat etch primer and sprayed

    Did you check that the "adhesion promoter" is actually rated to be a primer for the high temp paint? A lot of those promoters are not actual paint primers and are just "spray plastic" coatings that regular old paint sticks well to, but will melt and burn at temp, which will cause your high temp paint to flake off.. I'd suggest finding an aluminum pan from the kitchen and doing a test before you attempt to bake the turbo; if it burns off, you'll have to strip the turbo and redo the whole process with a proper high temp primer instead..

    That is almost definitely not foreign object damage - if it were, it would affect all (or less likely, most) of the turbine blades. It looks more like the edge of the blade was knocked during assembly/disassembly of the turbine housing. I would have a look inside the turbine housing for any marks and scrapes. Great project btw

    Unless that is high temp adhesion promoter, you are very likely sticking on a layer of high "fail" adhesion promoter between your high temp turbos and your high temp paint. I'm pretty sure the baking process is the only thing that should be used to promote and ensure adhesion of that paint but time will tell whether you promoted adhesion or failure with that extra step.

    You could use a ceramic coating like Cerakote on parts that get hot as well or anything that needs protecting from heat or you need to look good.

    you should still get the other turbo remanufactured, for now you could just put one old and one new turbo in the lambo, but when the broken one gets sent back u can put the new one in the next build or supra or w/e and still have exactly the same turbos for the lambo
