Cool Charger , fun fact I ran a very similar 74 440 in my A body in 1988 , I put 68 pistons in it , shaved the 30 thou off the heads and bowl ported them , I ran many passes a my local track , torker 1 & 2 both ran 13.1 @107mph. Factory 6 pack 13.2 @109mph. And that same turd spreadbore manifold you have, complete with the ThermoQuad 13.2 @109mph The biggest difference was the TQ saved 3 mpg over all other options . P.s their were no Mickey Thompson s in those days :)

The 74 440 HP made 280 BHP. The only difference between the HP and that 76 engine was the HP had a steel crank (yes even in 74 the U code engine were forged steel), used the came camshaft as you would find in an older 383-440 magnum, and had HP exhaust manifolds. Would be cool to put it back fairly stock and have a good cruiser and see what kind of quarter mile times that you can run with it. I had an unmolested 73 road runner U code 440 car that ran 14.7 with a horrible 2.5 60' time. Put a sticky tire on the back and try for low 14's- high 13's.

This reminds me of the 1-of-1, FE5 red, '73 SE that didn't sell at Mecum's 2017 Kissimmee auction. The color and engine combo makes it a pretty worthy find, and while it's clearly a mess now, I tend to agree with those who've said this one deserves to be brought back.
Perhaps a bit of improvement to the sheet metal and a good primer and sealer coat and a bit of cleanup + making it reasonably functional within a decent budget could allow for a profitable re-sale to the next owner willing to take it the next step up.

Everyone likes the 66-69 1/2 chargers best, but what you have to realise is that Dodge put a lot of thought into the aero of the 70s chargers, and they loaded them with all the best components! The 70s chargers drive much nicer, handle better and can still be pumped up to more than respectable power levels, even with an LA engine let alone a B or RB engine.
Personally I think they are the most comfortable and quietest of all the chargers, and far superior to the new ones.

I honestly would like to see the motor you pulled out go back in with a few minor upgrades.

I recently bought a 74 Charger RT that has the front turn signal indicators on the top of the fender and curious why this one doesn't. I don't know much about this year Charger. Definitely looks like you have a worthy project to be restored, even more so if the engine and transmission is number matching original to the car!

So in 1976 the 440CI Mopar High Performance variant of the engine made 275Hp and 375 ft-lb torque. In the Standard 440Ci from the same year it drops to 210 or 205 hp (I don't know what the diff is probably two or four barrel carb) and 330 or 315 Ft-lbs torque! BUT!! or HOWEVER!! That engine has as you said up graded goodies on it and maybe even in it too!! So it could be somewhere back up to the much bigger and funerrr 375HP and 485 TQ! and seeing that those numbers would have been when the engine had all of the strangling Environmental mental stuff hooked up to them it should be able to pump out some decent power no matter what!! YEA BABY!!
