I was so lucky to attend a concert a few years back, with Martha Reeves and the Vandellas the opening act. They sang this very song. Martha was into her seventies by this time.....and she could still do it! There were about 40,000 people attending the Motown event and everyone started dancing in the city hall square as this infectious song was performed. It was an unforgettable moment. Smokey Robinson was the next act to follow. An exciting evening to be sure. Smokey, also in his seventies, appeared in a kind of Elvis, one piece white lounge suit, skin tight. Smokey was swiveling away as he sang and he too was totally convincing as the huge audience went wild with delight!
I am 73 years old and will be dancing in the street today. trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of his criminal trial. What better way to celebrate than to blast Martha and the Vandellas and dance in the street. Lol
Summer 1968 community block party in the park, getting ready for high school, the band was playing this song; the weather was beautiful; dusk; the people were cool; still remember this awesome song in an awesome moment!
I love Martha's story. She went to Motown with the desire to become a music star. The director in charge of signing artists didn't think she was good enough. She kept coming back and eventually the director asked her if she wanted to be his secretary. She gladly accepted. There was a rule back the day that if you were recorded a tract that you needed to have someone singing on the tract. They heard the inspector was coming and they needed someone to sing so they wouldn't get in trouble. Martha eagerly volunteered and the rest is history. PS: The song that she sang in that life changing moment was Dancing in The Street.
They were literally singing for our civil rights. ❤️
It's hard to exaggerate how much influence the Motown sound has had on American pop music. Great stuff to listen to a thousand years from now.
Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts in New York City today. 🎶

I am 62 years old.This song never gets old!!!!😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
Gated reverb in the 60s? Phil Collins was just a teenager.
My wife drops whatever she is doing and starts dancing when I crank this up. She was one of the Vandellas in a past life.
Martha's voice still gives me goosebumps. Knowing she was rejected so many times is so hard to believe, especially these days.
Let's go motown
Today is the day for dancing in the street! 🥳

My grandfather told me my grandmother used to play this song so much back in the 60’s that he eventually learned to love it lol.
