lying prone was a big part of dodging in the original, i think by allowing everyone to just aim all over the y axis, it kills some of that original feeling. if you're going to remove lying prone you almost have to insert a dodge roll or something to compensate.
If Konami was still interesting in making actual video games - I could 100% see a fully realised version of this in the style of Returnal or other similar games. This looks cool, love the low poly visuals.

If the creators would added sliding and a speed up platforms (Or rings like in Fall Guys) I think this game would be an absolute banger. At least that's what I thought when watching the video.
This looks like a lot of fun and reminds me of Sonic Robo Blast 2. The only problem I see is that enemy bullets are practically invisible when they're flying over a bridge.

That looks so fun and intese than side scrolling. I beat the original one... hmm. Probably about 6 times. I kept button mashing at the last level of the alien lair. The heart part, gosh i was looking at those spider things each time they popped out. I still have the game.
The gameplay looks like it works quite well, which is the most important part. As noted, sounds needs a lot of work, the high pitched squeal of whatever that was is quite obnoxious. But solid beginning, could be special. I hope you have your alternative, non-copyright infringing assets ready to go!
It must be really hard to design levels for this because it's clear they're putting extra care to make sure everything is always visible.

There's a contra map for Sven Coop it's actually pretty amazing with 20+ ppl and it's VERY well done for a FPS contra conversion.
