  • modifying and remedying faults on my mate Paul's OEX bobcat 1.
    the bobcat is the successor of the north ridge col and col lite, which I had a hand in re-designing when I worked at go outdoors. these modifications are mainly what north ridge/OEX left off, but the elastic in the fly seam was a necessity due to a manufacturing fault which left the rear right hand seam extremely saggy, causing condensation to seep into the inner.

    Excellent modifications. I was looking at one of these for bikepacking but I was put off because of all the issues …. That you have fixed 😂 well done

      Thanks Ray, it's a great little tent once all the little gripes are remedied. The sagging issue is a manufacturing fault to be honest, but they'd all sold out.

      Thanks for watching and commenting buddy, be prepared for the hassle of threading the elastic through the seam, make sure the elastic is 3mm diameter or less👍🏻

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Try these modifications to sort your problems out, the bungee cord in the outer rear seams makes the most difference. Let me know how you get on with your bobcat.🙂

    Hi, Great modifications. How did you stitch the extra tie down point on?

    • @trooperwolfie

      Hello there, thanks for watching and commenting, I used my singer sewing machine to sew everything, it did jam a few times due to the adhesive, but going slowly and taking my time worked out in the end. You could hand sew them if you don't have a machine, it will just take longer. I hope that helps 👍🏻

    It's nice to see my mods been done by others and how you have done things a little different. How you getting on with the outter mods been so high up mate? I've had my cat in some good wind and it's held up well. Nice vid buddy 👍

    • @trooperwolfie

      Thanks for watching and commenting 😁 the modifications are doing well, the main one that made the biggest difference was the elastic in the corner seam taking out the slack, the outer guy points are on the seam junctions where OEX should have placed them. Attaching the inner to the outer guy points makes a big difference to the internal space 👍🏻

    Great work mat8 ..I've just ordered the bobcat 1.. cud it be possible if put stick velcro patches in the inside part where in drops down low..?

    • @trooperwolfie

      Hi, thanks for watching and commenting, I'm not quite sure about velcro, do you mean to attach the inner to the outer?

    • @CB-st6bo

      The inner tent the was thinking of putting industrial strong velcro patch and attach it to the main outside from inside it..

    • @trooperwolfie

      @@CB-st6bo I wouldn't to be honest, you don't want the inner touching the fly sheet, you'll get condensation seeping through, you need a gap, hence the elastic and ring/toggle system. If your not great at sewing you could get a tailor/seamstress to sew them on for you. I hope this helps.

    • @trooperwolfie

      Thanks for watching and commenting, unfortunately I haven't the time to do it as a job. If your not experienced with a sewing machine a seamstress/tailor may do the sewing for you, or alternatively a company like Lancashire sports repairs or Scottish mountain gear can do the mods for you. I hope this helps, sorry I can't be of any further help.

    Hi mate
    Can i ask how you got the bungee cord into the seam? Thanks

    • @trooperwolfie

      Absolutely, I made a small cut on the inside of the seam at the bottom near the hem, and another at the exit point with a scalpel blade, I then threaded the elastic (use no more than 3 mm diameter) bit by bit into the seam. It took quite a bit of time to do. You could add a small safety pin to the end of the elastic, or use a thin piece of metal wire passed through the seam to then pull the elastic through which I wish I'd thought of sooner lol. It requires patience as it's a fiddly job. I hope that helps, thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

    • @brianmercer2805

      @trooperwolfie Thanks for the reply,the outer is sagging bad.
      I've done the outer extra pegging points and soon to do the inner attaching to outer. I noticed alot of folks vids with their bobcats,they only have one peg out point either side of the pole attachment,I seem to have two either side. Which should hold better in wind.
      Thanks for your help.👍

    • @trooperwolfie

      Thanks for watching and commenting, I sewed everything myself on my singer brilliance. The patches can snag the needle/thread due to the adhesive backing, but slow and steady wins the race. I know people have used tailors/seamstresses in the past, it just depends if your local one wants to do it or not. You also have companies like Lancashire sports repairs and Scottish mountain gear who specialises in this sort of thing, but be prepared for long waiting times and more expense. I hope this helps 👍🏻
