    Got this tent for a motorcycle trip to Spain in April. Perfect size for my soft luggage. To put the 2nd end into the metal clip it's easier to bend the pole into the hole rather than pulling the clip into the pole. It took me 2 attempts to realise this.
    Really looking forward to being in Northern Spain with my Bobcat 1.
    Cheers 😁

    It's an awesome little tent so far. Stayed bone dry through heavy rain all day and night. I saw a bunch of youtubers have the problem at 4:56. It's definitely an annoyance the first time you put it up, made me scared I've got a defective one or that I'm just a weakling! but nah, I found that there's a trick to it Basically, I pulled the fabric as far down the pole as it will go, then buried the other end of the tent pole into the ground and bent the whole tent pole. It made it way way easier to get it into the holder. I don't worry about bending the tent pole or breaking it, because it's super flexible.

    The advantage is it can be put up quite quickly because you can leave inner and outer together, got alot length to it, and if you peg out at sides it's waterproof, I've left mine soaking outside a bigger tent for months and it's still waterproof. very durable.

    one of my tent collections is the original Cougar 2. failed in so many ways! only a garden use tent now (as not worried if the cat destroys it) but love its space and easy pitch! I believe OEX have really upped their game the improved cougar looks amazing (different name now) and this Bob cat looks great. Great review Dan Thanks for posting :)

    Honest review mate. Keep em coming. I have this tent and have spent several nights in it and it's held up well to rain and moderate wind. I was dry in the morning and condensation no worse than expected. Only two niggles, you need a bit of muscle to put the pole in and at 5' 11" it's just about roomy enough for a decent night's sleep but any taller and you'd struggle. However for the price the quality is very reasonable.its relatively light weight and if you're on a budget (and who isn't these days) it's a good buy

    Love the no nonsense approach to the more budget conscious wild camper. For the price the 2020 range of OEX tents aren't bad. No, they're not the lightest, but they are value for money and robust.
    The northern accent isn't the easiest for us Southerners to grasp, but it only adds to the more natural approach for the budget or starter to wild camping. 👍

    Hi mate really good video. I have the same tent. I don’t know if you know the first part of the door if you call it a door 🤔😂. If you have not noticed ring hole on the end of them for up right poles to go into them. So this gives you a open up door way to cook under when weather is not good. So sipping the outside door from bottom half way up or right up just under rain cover. Then put poles on each corner then pull out level give you outward level place from the rain or sunny day. Also making the tent give you more space to cook under from the tent. Many thanks stuart

  • @geoffminter2927
    @geoffminter2927 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've had mine out twice. First time out I had it all zipped up and the condensation was pretty bad. Second time I had the door open all night so the air could flow through the inner. No condensation. And I find the back of the inner could do with someway of tightening it up. It kind of sags and gets in the way a little

    It looks very much like the North Ridge Col tent which i brought in 2013...North Ridge and OEX brands belong to Go Outdoors. I also have the Berghaus Peak 3.1...long story short all three brands belong to JD Sports.

    • @outdooressentialsuk5835
      @outdooressentialsuk5835 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically north Ridge and OEX are Go brands. Go is owned by JD Group who in turn are owned by the Pentland Group, who are a major stakeholder in Berghaus. Hope that clears it up. 😉

  • @andrewlangshanks2407

    Tried it in store. I'm 6' and I was touching the inner tent at both head and foot. My arm was touching the flysheet and that's without a sleeping mat or bag. I'd imagine condensation leaking onto your sleeping bag at night. Looks interesting as an outer only as a lightweight bivvy, though.

    I’ve recently purchased this tent ready for when lockdown gets lifted however, I’ve pitched it about 4/5 times and each time it’s becomes a fight to fit the pole into the other end. Was hoping it would become more easier over time as the pole was new but it’s still just as tough as the first time. Is this a common problem or am I doing something wrong?

    Those one pole tents like that are generic to a few brand names,North Ridge Col and Berghaus identical but more minor things. The problem with that design the slightest bit of wind and your eating a face full of tent all night on your left side opposite to the door.

    • @blackoak4978
      @blackoak4978 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got a similar designed tent, first time out the sky opened up and we got some nasty wind. I had it all staked out and had no issues. Tent stayed up and dry. Only problem was having to wait out a storm in a tent the size of a coffin, but that's a 1 man tent issue in general, not an issue for this specific type

    • @ryand141
      @ryand141 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you position the tent in wind so that the wind doesn't hit it straight should be fine. Can always just sleep under tarp anyway.

  • @mattlast4093

    No strength in single half hoop tents. I had a vango blade and blew flat in high winds. Very dangerous out in the middle of nowhere.

    • @clivenewton7609
      @clivenewton7609 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s simply a 1-2 season lowland tent, no matter what the manufacturer might try and tell you! So why would you think it’s ok to take out in the “middle of nowhere “ and expect it to perform like a 3-4 season tent🥱?

    • @undertheradar001
      @undertheradar001 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clivenewton7609 Not much use for me then. I use a force 10 classic. Very heavy; but when I pack light weight (apart from the tent); I can get a pack weight of about 24KGS. No amount of wind will put down a properly pitched and anchored F10. I have been out in some really attrocious conditions. That OEX doesn't quite cut it!!

  • @MrCMHUDDY
    @MrCMHUDDY 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is almost exactly the same as the brilliant Berghaus Peak 3.1 pro, as you pointed out. A few differences I can see - The pegs aren't as good as The Peak (standard OEX pegs are crap, which is a shame). This is a PU coated fly, the Berghaus is Silicone (which I prefer) but the colour of the Bobcat is far more practical. The only major criticisms I have with the Peak is there aren't enough vents and there's no porch ground sheet, but the Peak is lighter because of that. The Bobcat seems to have addressed the vent issues, you think? I'd like to see a post once you've slept in it.
