Coastal Wild Camp on the Solway - The OEX Bobcat 1 Review

  • I decided to go out on a mini camp only less than a mile away from the car yet seems the opposite. I got the right evening for it and such a lovely morning. In this video I am reviewing the first ever tent I pitched in my life. Also the tent that got me into this hobby. Hope you enjoy learning about the Solway coast. Something different from the highlands.
Castle Point itself is the site of an ancient Roman fort on a headland at the estuary of the river Urr. The headland provides panoramic views across to the Lake District, the Isle of Man, Heston Island, Rough Island and up the estuary to Kippford.
This is a very informative video.
Be sure to watch my Criffel Summit Camp coming soon.

State side here. I’ve lost count of the number of videos I’ve seen demonstrating the OEX Bobcat. I thought, “damn,” that many ppl can’t be wrong about that tent. I’ve got to get it. However, it wasn’t that easy. Came time to order it it couldn’t be found State side so I had to order from somewhere in England and pay all that postage. Bumber. Ok, so I finally got my tent. I use it for bicycle touring. I haven’t tried it in high wind or rain yet. I like how the front gives us a wide picture window view of the outside. Looks like you found a good camp spot. Om!

I'm in Australia and have ordered one too, postage is really expensive but it looks like a great one man tent. I've been bingeing Bobcat videos too.

Where the pole locates into the sockets there is an adjustable tape that runs across the threshold. Make sure that it is slackened off completely before trying to insert the pole ends. I had the same problem with mine until I spotted the adjustment buckle. By default it was at max tension!

hi hi have just bought that tent and it comes tomorrow i use the cloud peak 2 in the rest of the seasons except winter because i like my cold winter camps and the cloud peak was a little breezy when it was below minus 2.3 so i got the bobcat 1 and i had seen all the good review. i payed £99 but if it does me in the winter fine. it looks a really good tent. oh a big tip when your trying to get the pole in use the floor by sticking the other end in the floor to bend it👍

@@austieoutdoors9763 it's so stiff you cant get it in that way u litrully have to sit down to get it in 😅 Xx I know what u mean but with this tent it doesn't work that way as you describe, at least not for me anyway haha. I would not use this for winter. But it s a brilliant tent x. Itl handle summer, spring and autumn. X enjoy :). It's good for the winds too.
I like my new light weight version too hehe. But I preffer Hilliberg tents or scarp tent for winter at the momment anyway. Just. A lot safer.

@@austieoutdoors9763 no it's not. It was like this from day one. The first day I set it up too. The only way to get it in is by sitting down. please don't be smart attitude with me. I don't have time for it.. Many people who review this tent say the same thing about the pole being hard to get in. It's a fault in the tent.which they fixed now with the light weight version which I baught too. It's issue has been sorted
I baught this 4 years ago. Whether that's been fixed or not now is another story. Perhaps u have a more up to date version.

This is the tent I'm looking at so thanks for the review. I've seen a hack with a trekking pole for the back guy line, tie it to a pole rather than the ground and it pulls the whole thing out giving you more room inside. Those views are amazing though and they dont need any music to enjoy them. I noticed someone else commented about the music but its easy enough to mute 😎

    • @GoSummitSolo
      @GoSummitSolo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I honestly don't mind my music choice to be honest thanks very much . It's copyright stuff and I think it went well but it's everyone to their own isn't it :)
Yeah the trekking pole hack seems ace 👍 well done. I dont use the tent at all anymore cuz it is really too small nd it was my very first tent so it has memories. Really honest opinion, if people have the money I wouldnt even bother wasting time on a tent this cheap. But anyhoo
Anyway all the music I choose to put on my videos I like that's why I put it :)
Scarp 1 is a better choice for example. Not too expensive but not cheap.

@@GoSummitSolo wow that's interesting, in the 3 months since the review you've already stopped using it? I love hiking and want to try wild camping next year but don't know if it'll be for me so didn't want to spend a huge amount on a tent to try it out. Shame I don't know any camping folks to borrow one 😂
I really don't mind music on the vlogs, like I said its easy enough to mute if it's not to your taste.

@@shelliejax6527Hiya, did you manage to get this tent,go camping? Please don't be putting off from doing so. This tent is awesome, I'm a ex Infantry soldier who uses this every summer on 630 mile South West Coastal Path..It takes all the coastal winds gales perfectly..and has done so for 5 years now.. I highly recommend this tent. Price varies but Go outdoors do every year reduce price to around £55.. Last week it was £79..Hope you manage to experience the great outdoors camping one day .🙂

I keep seeing alot of people complaining about the pole on the Bobcat being hard to get in the first few times.
Theres adjustable straps where the pole fits in at either side. They just need loosened to fit the pole in and tightened again afterwards.

Try introducing some talcum powder into the areas where the backpack squeaks and grunts. It is most likely around where the fabric from stress points (shoulder straps and waist belt) interface and 'work' against the rigid 'trampoline arch' subframe structure.
