    The 747 is iconic. The most recognizable Plane ever built. I realize that's only my opinion, but to me it's an amazing Plane.

    I was just on this 747 today and it now sits at the Delta Flight museum at the Delta headquarters at the Atlanta airport. The plane has been gutted and filled with educational material on the history and fuction of the aircraft. Amazing to see that bird forever grounded but still faces the runway watching the planes takeoff and land

    A 747 going to Honolulu. Reminiscent of the glory days of travel back in the 70s and 80s. Your seat location is right about where I'd sit in Clipper Class when flying on Pan Am back in the 80s going to Frankfurt or flying out of London Heathrow. Pity I never carried a decent camera to record those JT9D engines.

      +Springbok295 Yes how true!! Although I was a 6 year old kid back in the 85, I still "reminisce" about the past glory days of flying. I used to see my Dad, Uncles etc fly to different places, as well as I personally remember flying in the late 80's as well. It was certainly a different time and place!!

    The Boeing 747 is the most beautiful and glorious aircraft ever built for commercial air travel. In April 1970 I was in Paris, heading back to New York City. The B-747 had just begun service on Pan Am a few weeks earlier. I was fortunate enough to be booked on their very first one delivered for that Paris to NYC flight. To this day, I fondly recall my amazement at the aircraft's size, those big P&Ws out on those huge wings humming as we took flight. A huge thrill and it still is to this day. I worked for TWA for many years but nothing could compare to that first flight on "Fat Albert!"

    Boy those 747s have sure come a long ways since the first (and last) time I ever rode on one.. That one time was in July 1971, traveling from Dallas TX to Los Angeles. Since I was in the military, I had a standby ticket (cost a whole $97 round trip). I arrived at Dallas Love Field around noon on the day before July 4th. Everything on Delta going from Dallas to LA was full up, and by 10pm or so it looked like I was stuck in the airport overnight. The Delta ticket agent said there was one more flight to LA and he could pretty much guarantee me getting on it. I asked him how he could be so sure and he said it was the Atlanta/Dallas/LA "redeye" leaving Dallas at 2am, and it was one of the brand new 747s.. We boarded at around 1:30am, and get this.. 20 passengers... The cabin crew decreed we were all in first class and the booze flowed between Dallas and LA. I can't for the life of me imagine ANY airline flying a gas-hog like that on a "redeye".. With only 20 passengers, they'd likely just cancel the flight nowadays..

    • @julianfell666
      @julianfell666 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That is what is called a re-positioning flight. They were not taking 20 people to LA. They were taking a 747 to LA so it is there to haul 300+ from LA to some other city the following morning. The 20 passengers were able to take advantage of this reposition.

    I so remember the glory days of the 1970s when I flew for another airline. The first class meal on this video reminded me of the coach meal back in the day. First class meal had salad served from the cart...and prime rib cut to order from the cart.

My honeymoon to Hawaii I flew with American on a B757 out and a DC-10 back to LA. From my local airport here in the UK it's cheaper to fly to Australia now than it is to fly to Honolulu. Honolulu is a very expensive place to fly to from the UK 😣.

    This is business class. Delta doesn't have first anymore. For a nine hour flight, it is fine. Standard business seats, a bit narrow, but really comfortable. I like upstairs. Really a different world. Small cabin, one aisle, about 16 seats. Two lavs, two FAs, nice. Delta wine list is mainly a good supermarket $15-20, the food comes and goes.
    The 747 is historic, and it is always a joy to fly one. Probably the most dignified airplane ever made.
    Haven't flow this segment, but fly TPE-DTW, NRT-DTW and try to time the 747. MNL-NRT-DTW a great great day and night.

      +mofo popo Agreed! I've flown in many planes, A380, 777, A330, A340, but nothing compares to the 747, specially the new 747-8, if you fly right at the nose, it is the quietest plane out there. A380's are quiet too at the upper deck, mainly because you're quite far away from the engines, and while it is an awesome plane it still isn't the queen of skies like the 747 will always be.

    N674US is an old Northwest 747-451. Usually used for trans Pacific flights. It would have been common for NWA to run this plane from MSP or DTW to NRT or HKG. BTW those are not JT9D engines. This aircraft used P&W PW-4000 engines or the comparable GE.

      James Koralewski at the time of the merger ALL of the current 747’s in the current DL fleet came from the merger with NW... The aircraft you’re referring to which was purchase by the DL employees was called the “Spirit of Delta,” and it was a 767-200. Prior to the merger with NW, Delta had not operated the B 47 since the 70’s.
