I find that older documentaries of any genre way better because they lack background music, audio is clear, thoroughly detailed, and most importantly no scenes being cut off or added.
Maybe Boeing’s finest achievement, the 400 is one of the safest if not safest airliner every built. For the gazillion miles it’s flown for 30 years it’s record is incredible. It certainly was a very comfortable aircraft, I never felt closed in even when sitting in the middle section. Excellent video
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I learned to fly back in Spain in 1989 and never tire of it and never tire of watching great planes and crews take to the skies. The 747 is one of my favorites, for sure! I also love the A380. Both are pictures of elegance and yet the 747 is still queen of the skies in my eyes! Thanks for sharing this rare gem!!
Airplanes are so cool & beautiful! On land, they lumber along, but once they climb heavenward, they become graceful & free. The flight crew was so impressive. Their care & skill was admirable. Thank you for sharing, & thank you Wright Brothers!
The 747-400 was still new at this point in time. Crazy to think that many airlines now no longer operate the 747, especially in passenger service. With the exception of Lufthansa, that is!
I am watching from the caribbean. Thanks, so much for a great video, that has given me the pleasure of understanding the preparations that go into finalising for such a long flight. I once had the opportunity of flying from Barbados to London, and 6 hours after flying from London to Shanghai, in China. I leave Barbados a Sunday, and arrive in China a Tuesday. Those great memories will remain with me until death
That flight was epic, it was amazing. The narrator was quite knowledgeable, and obviously it was a smooth flight, well done, awesome, God is good, He is inspirational
As a former flight attendant with Lufthansa, now enjoying my early retirement, I had the pleasure to experience countless flights to Kai Tak, also under the command of Cpt. Rogowski. From 1989 up to the late 90´s the 747-400 was state of the art and working aboard was always a pleasure. Crew-rotations to HKG sometimes took up to week, depending on if the schedule included flights from HKG on to Osaka, Japan. This meant extra rest time in Hong Kong, sometimes up to 3 days, also depending on the flight schedule. I miss those good old days of flying and look back with sentimentality. Today, flying has become a rather `over-massed´ product, but still has not lost it´s fascination. Always happy landings!
Jochen Kissly Sorry to hear that. I can only judge my own experience having served our customers for more than 3 decades. The vast majority was always satisfied. Of course, people are different. Some people like it, some people don't. When flying with CX, I sometimes hear passengers saying that they actually prefer LH. When flying with LH, I sometimes hear the same people saying they actually prefer CX. And some people are never satisfied. Not only when flying.
Sorry that you missed the subject of this video in particular. Just for explanation, Jochen, it is not about the service provided on board of various airlines, but it is about the approach of the old Kai-Tak airport in HKG. This was extremely difficult for ALL airlines. I do not know, how many times you had the pleasure to enjoy this exciting approach, but let me tell you, not only the passengers enjoyed it, but also the crew! I am sorry for people who cannot enjoy anything, not only when flying.
*Blau Bär? The vast majoity was always satisfied? Some people are satisfied with very little - but I am sure: When this satisfied LH customesr (LH employees call them "Paxe") just once would have flown SQ or CX 99% would never have gone back to LH. In 1988 a LH stewardess told me " Wir haben es nicht mehr nötig zu verkaufen" - and starting that day I avoided the crane whenever possible. And when my business was low I switched to Aeroflot (SU) - in C class they are fine and the C-class fare is about the fare on Y on LH. Its such simple!
You prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
This takes me back to 1982 I think when I flew Cathay Pacific into Kai Tak. We could practically wave to the residents of the apartment blocks below!! My next flight into HK in 2018 took me into the newly constructed airport which was a lot more approachable than the old Kai Tak. Fascinating film!
Thank you for uploading this beautiful doc It's really amazing how things has changed in twenty two years, by that time I was three years old. Definitely will be a pilot when I have enough money, Wish me luck everyone
as a retired aircraft mech no plane even comes close to the 747 . it was built at the perfect time and just got better. i always loved working on any plane ( even puddle jumpers like the 737 ) but always smile when a 747 came in for repair. i look forward in my next life to working on the jetson version of the 747.
@ATCkeepsUsafe For a layman aviation enthusiast (like myself), I hate the current trend to smaller airplanes. In any large airport (especially in the US), the site of twin-engine, boring, antiseptic-looking planes stretches on and on. So happy that I'm old enough to have flown in some of the classic airliners of the past 30 years, like the DC-10, the L-1011, the A340-500 and even the fuel-guzzling Boeing 727.
I've been to 42 airports worldwide since 1960. My intl. airport driving career spans 6+ years. Delighted to learn about Frankfurt's airport. Cheers! * Cav *
Super video...done this trip many times over when living in Sydney. One gets used to 11 h jumps between continents and appreciate very much the hard and responsible work of pilots and crew . No one big bump in 15 years of flying I presume God loves me . Congrats Lufthansa and shooting crew. Top viewing JJ
Great and very informative documentary....I am very much pleased with the efforts applied in this documentary to produce...Thanks a lot and please provide us other routes and cockpit journies..You said i am just a biginner....but it has all the qualities of a professionalism...please keep it up...
Great video! Interesting how the pilot needed to divert from the standard route because of fighting at the time. Thankfully, those days are behind us. I hear Croatia now is a wonderful place to visit! So last summer, I had the privilege of flying a Lufthansa 747-8i. The business class cabin was half empty and was an amazing journey to Frankfurt from Newark, NJ!
Thank you. I always wondered what they do before they receive us passangers on board. A lot of work before we board. Great respect for each other too. Perfecto 👌👌.
Thanks for sharing this old clip. Although computer terminals have visibly and totally changed but look of the aircraft - especially 747 - is remarkably the same after 5 decades.
I like this video. It reminds when I flew a similar Lufthansa jetliner from Frankfurt to Sydney via Singapore. That was a very enjoyable flight since the flight attendants were very kind to me and made sure that I had an unlimited supply of Heinekens. The flight lasted about 24 hours including stopovers in Singapore and Melbourne, which is still my longest flight in one aircraft although the crew was changed after we arrived in Singapore
Wow, 21 years ago this video was made, but to me everything looked contemporary in terms of the cockpit instrumentation which I'm sure to any pilot these days would look at it as a museum piece. I flew on a couple SF to Frankfurt flights with Lufthansa, my first actually in 1998. Enjoyed the service both times, upgrading to business class on each trip. Don't upgrade anymore, airlines ask for too many miles and I want a couple items on their rewards catalog instead! Thanks to Lufthansa for making these informative videos, enjoy all of them and a thanks to the fine flight crew on this ride along flight. I would sure like to see a similar presentation of how flight crews performed flying something like a Super Constellation or even a DC7 back in the day, before all the electronic aids.
What a thrill that i had watching this amazing video. Breath taking of these beautiful big silver metal birds in the sky. thank you for sharing. loved it. :)
Wow - in the mid 80s, I got to visit my pen pal in HK during summer break ... must have been this flight from FFM to Kai Tak with refueling in New Dheli. Amazing!
I remember flying into that airport on a Canadian Airlines 747. Saw a lady getting her laundry from a line on the roof of her apartment building during the approach. A lot has changed in about 20 years.
Thanks =) I remember visiting frankfurt often as a child, and on return would see those old aircraft parked on the roof (in the intro) - alas they aren't there anymore, but had I not seen this, I'd never have remembered it, so thanks twice =)
I had 2 Good flight experience with Lufthansa from Singapore to Frankfurt in 1992 and one from Subang International Airport to Frankfurt as well in 1993............!! Very good memory indeed.....!
Aha! These were the days before the electronic gadgets took over. Following the rudimentary ways of flight briefing through paper and maps. It was the time when more manual involvement was necessary with the aircraft. It was nice to see the Captain helping his crew with her luggage. These were the days when The Mighty Jumbo 747 ruled the skies across the globe until recently the era of A380 has begun. And now even Indian airspace is on VHF.
I used to fly solo to/from my divorced parents from age 6 and have always loved watching the flaps on takeoffs and landings. I so wish I could've been a pilot. Great video though!
Thorough planning, super focus and great execution! The entire process from take off, enroute and landing has been a most enjoyable experience. As such, I look forward to flying with these fine airmen and a great airline. Codoos!!!
They are human, just like you and I, tasked with a job that is routine most of the time, but can call on you to go above and beyond. But it’s a great job and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
I bought the original VHS when it came out and have shown it in airline fear of flying courses and with private patients, esp the planning and co-ordination between crews. Lots of more modern videos on TH-cam, but this one is classic.

The new generation just. CANNOT function without BLARING Music/ noise of some sort..

one of the best videos about professional aviation .I love the German attention to details, the Captain, and all the crew, all did great job.
Airplanes are so cool & beautiful! On land, they lumber along, but once they climb heavenward, they become graceful & free. The flight crew was so impressive. Their care & skill was admirable. Thank you for sharing, & thank you Wright Brothers!
One of best 747 video's i've seen, narrator was informative at best.
Video done very well, I learned a lot from this
I'm so glad l chose a 747-400 to fly home to New Zealand back in May 1994. This is an excellent presentation.
The 747-400 was still new at this point in time. Crazy to think that many airlines now no longer operate the 747, especially in passenger service.
With the exception of Lufthansa, that is!
Thanks, an awesome experience. Travelled by one of these flights, from Mumbai to Frankfurt , Business class... Service was brilliant.
HEARTFELT THANKS for this OUTSTANDING video. I am so happy I got the chance to fly onboard a B747 quite a few times...as a younger guy!
The 747 is truly a work of art and when you consider it has a well defined function it’s the ultimate blending of form and function.
I am watching from the caribbean. Thanks, so much for a great video, that has given me the pleasure of understanding the preparations that go into finalising for such a long flight. Nice Video 😇👍 Love the 747 😘

Great video again, thanks. And no doubt I'll watch it all again.
In and out of here several times,, this is the first time that I had the bird's eye look, thank you.
Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport was stunning
Situated in the middle of the City with a Dangerous Approach.
Perfect Video .. I LOVE these "Movies" from 80 S and 90 S ! It gives me a very nice Feeling.. Watching this pretty often .
Just a fun fact: The translation by the narrator was absolutely top notch, I'm impressed.
What a superb video. I was in Hong Kong in the early 70's. I love this city.
Very well put together. One of the best documentaries i have seen since the Concorde one.
This was a terrific video. Thank you so much! I remember that sharp bank into Kai Tak on my first trip to Hong Kong from Sydney.

I love how the captain gave the passengers a very detailed explanation of the route. I’d have enjoyed that on the flight.
Spectacular. Queen of the skies with good pilots - awesome.

Vielen Dank allen Onkeln & Tanten übersichlicht darüber.....
Amazing.
Flew Lufthansa many years ago from Joburg to Frankfurt.
Captain looks like a gentleman, probably a 380 skipper these days. Interesting video.
Alan Healy
By now he is retired.

Toller Film mit legendären Piloten und einem Purser der noch heute unfassbar tolle Geschichten erzählen kann
I remember flying into that airport on a Canadian Airlines 747. Saw a lady getting her laundry from a line on the roof of her apartment building during the approach. A lot has changed in about 20 years.
Reminds me of Full Metal Jacket, where a pilot waved at a woman he later hunted. 🤣
Great video of the entire flight
fantastic video loved every minute
This was the greatest video. What a beautiful ☺️ plane.
Very good cockpit presentation.. very good Pilots.. thanks a lot..
Thanks =) I remember visiting frankfurt often as a child, and on return would see those old aircraft parked on the roof (in the intro) - alas they aren't there anymore, but had I not seen this, I'd never have remembered it, so thanks twice =)

I can assure you that I do NOT miss lugging the old flight bags around. Carrying the iPad, with everything I need on it, is more than enough.
Thank you LH736 for a very interesting and informative infovideo.
Almost like being aboard again. 🐛
One of the first aviation films which I have bought shortly after the publication original at B.L.&P. for ~80 DM (~40€). And still for me the best
As a flight sim streamer this is packed with good information. 309 downvotes? Like......what were they expecting?
Dragonscoils haha I agree! But statistics is always surprising... somebody just likes to put a downvote just for the sake of it :)
Very fascinated by this flight video. Thank you for sharing.
So well presented Thanks
Great respect Capt rogowski.
Brilliant!
Thanks for posting.
Public comments.thanks for sharing your wonderful video with us 🙏🙏🙏. Beautiful plain and great landing
Very informative video.
I used to fly solo to/from my divorced parents from age 6 and have always loved watching the flaps on takeoffs and landings. I so wish I could've been a pilot. Great video though!
Robert Emerson I have been a commercial airline pilot for 10 years :) I loved to lower the flaps!
Great job on the explanation
Excellent documentary by Lufthansa superb video and explained step-by-step thanks
To land on the Kai Tak Airport runway of Hong Kong was an exciting experience.
Good old 747 - beautiful aircraft. Together with the old but elegant 707 my favorite.
Wonderful Production, Everyone!! Regards, randy usa

THANKS FOR THE VIDEO !!SUPERB ACCENT !!!
I like the way the narrator is putting up points
Absolute nice video. Thank you very.
I really admire pilots for the responsibility they carry with them 👍👍
