I've been using those California Cycle Works timing belts for years and years. Good stuff. All the old belts coming off my ST4 look like they could run another 10k miles easily. The poorly made OEM French temperature sensors were a temporary problem on mine, but new Bosch replacements did the job, no more hesitating throttle response.
It's the sensors. Mine did exactly same when i swapped out a charging lead on the battery. From what i could find out, it's a common thing that they can fail when the battery is disconnected
Check the MAP sensors work by applying vacuum to pipe, monitor output and also diagnostic tool to see if readings are sensible. If not done already, check connections to ECU.
I gave a thumbs up before I even started watching the video, simply from reading Ducati in the video title,😉. Great channel!! Keep the Ducati videos coming 😊
Just subscribed to your channel after watching some of your videos. Great to watch you work and problem solve. Great narratives from a down to earth bloke.
Thank you for all your videos. Gets me fired up to work on mine. Trying to figure out how to get on discord because I’m in the states and have some Triumphs I need some help on. Not really help just direction maybe. I’ll figure it out like I usually do. Cheers!
I bought a 2006 honda Fireblade that had sat for 10 years as a ornament in a garage changed all the fluids greased linkages new tyres put some fuel in it and run it all summer guess I was lucky 🏴👍 but then it is a Honda
guy who brought you the bike really cares about, it going to those lengths to make sure Everything is intact and all ready to be put back together. you just know this bike is going to be well looked after.
There is a precision error with digital measuring tools that not many think of. Besides the accuracy of the tool according to the manufacturer we also have to add the smallest value the tool can show us to that error! The reason for this is that we can't know if the last digit is about to change upwards or down. As an example the 4.9 vs 5.0 in this video might be a real difference of 4.94 vs 4.95 as a smallest difference based on only this additional error but it could also be as large as 4.85 vs 5.04. (Yes, as a precision machinist I'm a geek for any measuring related thing, this I was taught by Mitutoyo. Don't ask me why they don't include this error in their specifications...)
In the event of a fault of absolute pressure sensor 2, the engine control unit uses the information from absolute pressure sensor 1 instead. In the event of a fault of both absolute pressure sensor 1 and absolute pressure sensor 2: - The engine control unit implements an atmospheric pressure value of 1.013 bar.
One of these broke my heart for about 3 days. It had extensive "trouble shooting" at a ducati main dealer. Hadn't run right for years, to the point where it had cracked the front header. Some idiot at some point had connected the injector leads in the wrong injectors. Vertical in the horizontal. Wasn't throwing any codes...nothing.
I did a bike that had stood for more than 10 years and the anti freeze had eaten well into the heads and gaskets dissolved things away, after all the work was done it blew the gaskets after a 150 miles, the heads and crankcases were also toasted, big let down, a word of advice for anyone buying an old bike with no history, be prepared for a HUGE bill, can be more than the bike is worth, if you are going to store any water cooled bike drain the coolant first.
I've had these MAP sensor codes on a few ducs before, in many cases the fix is to run a bodge wire from the 5V supply and output and it fixes the problem. Tight wiring causes breaks. Wish I had a thermal camera for finding them.
There seems to me a theme through many of these bikes that you would hardly class as old… Parts no longer available, often carb rubbers. If you can’t get the parts after only a few years what are you supposed to do if you want to keep an older bike going? I see it with OEM accessories too but I guess that’s less of an issue. This Ducati isn’t what I’d class as old!
Years ago I stuffed up a MAP sensor once cleaning it, delicate little things. I was able to determine the sensor had failed measuring the voltage and gently applying pressure or vacuum. I'm no expert and not sure how things work on that bike, but if 5V in and 5V out is triggering the error then how can that mean the sensor is good?
As a Diavel owner I am surprised it had injectors. I thought it just had storm water drains from the tank to the inlet manifold. The fuel consumption is hilarious!
CA Cycle Works IIRC they developed an alternative to insanely expensive OEM Ducati .. which were half the cost of OEM .. we used them extensively.. always use new belt tensioner lock nuts when changing, adjusting belts...very very kind of you to offer those lockouts for postage .. they look superb and thats all you need for belt service.. BEFORE you buy OEM O rings , fuel pump O rings look to the aftermarket. I had paid $28 per feul pump O ring thru Ducati. Then I found that McMaster Carr in the USA sold same at a 1/3 cost IIRC 6 for $15 bucks...Surely same like kind quality Viton O rings can be had much cheaper than OEM in UK. In fact how I came upon McMaster Carr in US was at Fast by Ferracci .. he bought them in bulk cheaper than from Ducati OEM. .. I saw them one day sitting on the parts counter, open shipping box.. I thought.... hmmm.. same same like kind and quality I was told on the QT but 1/3 the cost. So between CACycleworks Belts, aftermarket supplied O rings you can service your Testastretta, Testastretta EVO at far far less cost...
I don't think that MAP output is correct. If the ECU is providing a ground, the 5V reference on the output wire should be zero, because it's being pulled to ground.
I had the a exact same model, good on highways, backroads and an absolute menace on the track. The main issue I had was that typically whenever I put on a helmet near it I transform into a massive dickhead.
Sorry but no. You would not expect the sensor to read 5V at atmosphere. The sensor should pull the voltage DOWN even a bit. So that when it faults or it's unplugged, the ECU sees 5V. Why do you think it's complaining about it being O/C??? Not a good video.
You are 100% Correct 👍 I'm surprised no one else picked me up on it! In my defence it was late and I was feeling pretty shite! In my brain I was thinking about a digital MAP with a 5v square wave output 😞 I do correct myself in part 2, though. Thanks for keeping me honest 🙏
When you see it's a 2013 and you know there's going to be no carb cleaning!!! 😂 what a bike though, absolutely gorgeous. Great work as always Jim.

Just started to watch this, that's one hell of a project, hope you sort the double map issues.

Thanks for entertaining us all, Jim, and for the CX. Have a great Christmas and here’s to more waffle in the new year. 😁
I use a ground down (tapered) small electrical screwdriver to remove cable ties without cutting them. Works a treat.
Aha! I shall have to try that, ta very muchly
Nice Jim, hope you and the family have a fab Christmas and New Year, can't wait until part 2 and the cuppa solving boost 👍
Another interesting one Jim, ready for part II. Merry Christmas to you and the family. 🎅
Great work , love watching 👏😎
God this is clever and very very interesting. Thanks for posting.

Another great video Jim, if only all bike mechanics had you skills, have a good Christmas and New Year
If it wasnt hard enough servicing these bike you manage to video, record audio and edit these videos by yourself as well. Great work
Great video Jim really enjoyed it 👍very interesting and informative, looking forward to part 2 , great content 👍.
I love a bit of confusion 360 😂 great Video mate 👍
Busting for part 2 cant wait jim
Merry Christmas Jim , thank you for entertaining and educating us....😊

oeeehh exciting ur wandering off into the italians 😍😍😍 fingers crossed for an aprilia someday
Happy Christmas Jim👏👍🎅

A man with OCD recognises the value in finding a man with a similar set of OCD values... he will be trusted to work on the loved thing.
Merry Christmas from Sweden. You are the master 👍
Merry xmas to you and yours, thanks for this this years learning.
Can't believe you were trying to unlock the zip tie from the wrong side and gave up!
Time for a new prescription
🤔😞

great job as always lad sure ul work it out get well soon next video please
Merry Chritmas to you and your family👍

Map sensors usually work in a range of 0.5-4.5v anything over or under would be considered a fault
It quite possibly with the codes coming up that's the reason the first owers hadn't run if for 10 years and just decided to punt it on.
Nice looking bike definitely dose not look like a bike that not been started in 10 years

Only Ducati could make a V twin that complicated.
Could you show us the Fusion design process you use to make the tools?
hey, finally remembered to log in before watching for your metrics....
This customer is making the rest of us look bad🤬🤬

Hope ur feelin better from ur man flu❤
Could they be connected arse about face? Looks like it could be bolted on either way mixing connectors up?
A mate of mine has got one of these. He had to have a new loom under warranty from it rubbing through. Can’t tell you where by tho 🤦🏼♂️
I was halfway through watching this earlier then it said “not available”. I know why now after the addition of the blurring 😂
No notification again Jim 🤬🤬🤬
I was tempted to get a Ducati 999.
A couple thousand reasons I haven't yet.
999 great engine
I watched a video recently with a Brit fella test riding a new Diavel with an Akrapovic exhaust, 5000£ just for the exhaust.😮
Lamb chops video 🤔
As a Diavel owner I am surprised it had injectors. I thought it just had storm water drains from the tank to the inlet manifold.
The fuel consumption is hilarious!
What happened with the 400 GSXR? Will there be another video?
Just two parts, fuel tap was blocked, causing the cutting out. 👍

When you know, you know, there are very few manufacturer only o-rings.
Have they been plugged to the wrong cylinder? Horizontal is plugged to vertical and vice versa?
It may run a bit crap if they had, but I doubt it would throw a code.
simple maths is that it ran for a year and then sat for 10 no? Good luck!!
Change the water plugs on the heads they rusted up ,happen to me because the bike stand from 2011 . Will never buy bike that stand for so long.

15 seconds,oh boy, what are you going to do with it!
👌

It’s a ducrappy what did you expect
swap the maps
It's from 2013, someone bought it new and used for 3 years, then it stood for 10 years? 2013+3+10 = 2026. Something's not adding up.
😊 T

Hey Jim I’ve sent you a message on discord about the video
I'm going to assume it's the same reason I'm thinking. So won't comment here on it :)
@@Battallavate yeah that’s why I sent on the discord. Hopefully he reads soon.
no !!! man
now I can't sleep
what's wrong with it ?!?!?! 😂😂😂
