Finally!, someone who knows how to change gear on a boxer. So many videos have people clunking up and down the gearbox and complaining how bad the box is when all you need to do, as you did, is on the way up the box, pre load the gear lever before dipping the clutch and the gears go in silently and on the way down rev match the engine and gearbox by holding the revs steady as you dip the clutch. Great work Sir!.
Even with the "missing" 4 hours of work, still enjoy the video. Don't mind all the waffling and random squirrels either, it's all great to watch and learn. Cheers!
I had an immaculate R1100GS, but every ride left my right shoulder in agony. I was absolutely gutted, because the bike had a charm all of its own and I really wanted to keep it!
Jim the gs family of bikes are now 1300. Ur vid of abs removal helped me when had to remove the failed abs pump on my 03 R1150RT .both great bikes and sound the same. That is nice lookin gs and well cared for by look of it
I've brought a 2007 R1200ST, which was standing at the dealership for over a year and a half. In the end, the dealer had to replace the ABS modulator under warranty because the long standing somehow damaged it beyond repair. I used to do most work on my bikes myself, I like watching your clips because I learn quite a bit from it. Thanks for sharing.
Your comment about windscreen height or lack of it resonates with me. I’ve an r1150r Rockster. I’m 6’-0 and the wind buffeting my helmet makes an incredible noise! I love my 80th Anniversary bike. It’s a great ride in all other respects for me. I haven’t found any taller replacement for the original. I’m apt to remove it altogether and fight the wind head on as in earlier days. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Daniel
Top tip t&g remover & a makeup pad. Put tar & glue remover on make up pad. Put ontop of wheel weight glue leave for couple minutes. Rub it in. Wheel weight glue will come off with ease. Obviously wipe residue clear afterwards
Lol love it, suppository - thats all me arse whaaaahhhh, we KNOW you meant REPository not DEPository but wheres the fun in that Jim, I LOVE deliberately misconstruing words and do it all the time and yes I already KNOW what the real word is, but if I had a pound for every time some knowall tried to belittle me by assuming I didnt already know what I was saying and "correcting" me.......I would be writing this from the patio of my mansion in Bermuda ! lol
Its it ok to remove an abs system from a bike? I want to do it on my ktm 990 adventure many people have done it but dont know if it will upset the insurance if i had to clame 😬😬 Great video again 😎
Certainly ok in terms of brake safety and performance. You would need to talk with your insurance company regarding that side of things. Technically, it would likely be considered a modification, so at the very least, you'll need to inform them.
@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV thanks for your reply.. 👍Definitely going to look at removing mine then it is a common mod on this bike it removes a few kg off the 990 its also pain off road turning abs on off etc.. Thank you Any chance you had do a video on cdi units and how they are powered when no battery ?and also how exciter coils work... been losing my mind trying to help a mate out with a no spark fault on an old klx 650🤯
@@carlhansen8668 Sorry, I don't have a video on the subject, although it'd make a good one. I do have very tentative plans to make a whole series of short videos covering all aspects of electrical systems. Just need to somehow find the time!
What’s the legality of removing the ABS over there. AUS here. If it was born with it it’s not allowed to be removed. It would have to go through a whole re-register process with clearance from the manufacturer which would never happen. I understand that the owner can remove it but would never be able to sell it or register it again?
It's through an aftermarket parts supplier and not from BMW. It is however a common failure and expensive to repair if you can even get the parts. I'm on the fence about removing mine because it still works properly at the moment.

Have a 2002 one from new - 24k miles. You're right about the cold knees and the buffeting from the screen - I thought it was just me. Wonderful bike.

Yes, I'm aware they are now 1300! The common stuff I see in for repair on a regular basis are mostly 1200.
I love a good buffeting in the helmet after a long days work
Lovely vid. Those beemers are amazingly well built and sound beautiful. 👌
Lovey bike, as an 1150GS rider I’d love to see more, I found you from the final drive video you did
I've never owned one but always liked the GS range.
Thanks for taking the time/ effort to upload/ Always enjoy SBS vid's
i know that felling jim . jumped on an xj900 last week and the memory's just came back
😁👍
you should consider having your own Amazon store so when you promote products send us to your store to buy them including tools etc.

I’ve owned 30+ bikes but last year I bought a well taken care of 04 1150GSA and I agree it’s charming in an agricultural way!

You put all your information in the library for people to access, it sounds much better than a depositary
Glue Remover Autosmart Tardis....safe on paint.
Autoglym SRP is like a facial for your paint...Whiteshark FK1000P wax seal...good luck everyone.

Good products Carbon Collective I detail bikes. Shampoo, Snowfoam IPA.
CC do metal ceramic, for rims paint plus exhaust.
Really enjoy all your videos, but at 44,000mi when was the splines lubed on the input shaft , driveshaft & final drive. Keep up the great videos 😎
In my opinion..the best built and easiest to ride and maintain BMW GS.
Just wait till you have to do a clutch. Or if you got one with a front end shock and it’s leaking 😂 this bike sucks.
Just subscribed, great channel and great to share your time

ABS is for people who've never ridden off road - a necessity to become a competent rider
Gotta ask - why would anyone want to delete the ABS???
You could cook your chips in that transmission oil.
What a lovely old thing, as you say, horses for courses.

Excuse my ignorance, but the reason for the deletion of the ABS.
The customer wanted gone 🤔
@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV a safety device/aid wow, scary.
And they fail, almost impossible to repair
Switch those injectors with r1200gs injectors and change that beautiful bikes life
Could do with a new fly screen that one looks degraded
A good bit of silicon grease should clean it up nice and restore the plastic to some degree, maybe a little polish, I'm sure it's got life left in it.
Yes, car rims and bike rims wheel weights, nothing anal about removing the remaining VHB tape residue!
The fact that the abs delete pipes are available through BMW is bloody terrible really
