  • In this video I document me picking my 1st ever batch of Jaboticabas grown in my yard. A Grimal vs a Red Anomaly. The Grimal should not be setting fruit yet as it's only 3yrs old, but I water stressed it last year almost to the point of death so it shot out flowers to survive. I bought 2 the exact same size, and the 2nd one got more mulch/water so did not fruit last year or this current season. This year it was pushed out more flowers and fruit, and they are more bigger and juicier than last.
I also harvested my random red anomaly, which I still am not sure what variety it is. If you have any ideas, please let me know.
I then do a taste test of them both comparing flavours to see which one is superior in my honest opinion.
Growing Jaboticaba's is such a joy to get them to fruit and eat. Amazing flavours, so much better then grapes. Buy a tree and stick it in the ground you wont regret it :)

Beautiful Grimal tree and very cool that it is that small and fruiting. Nice taste testing!

We make a jaboticaba paste as a side for cheese plates. It is the absolute best

Sounds delicious, I've only ever harvested a small amount at a time but will be trying jam, juice as soon as I have a surplus.

My only Jab thats fruited so far is Grimal - it does fool people Daleys calling
it large leaf. My Red hybrid now 3yo in pot has bugun flowering but not set
anything yet but flower was on trunk just above branch notch - Scarlet and
Costada and Coronata still too young but have tasted a mates Sabara and
    wasnt as sweet.

Have you contacted Steve Trenerry to see if he can identify the possible anomaly?

No sorry I do not. Look on facebook gardening groups in your location, many other growers do. I am just a collector.

Do you do anything with the skins? I've been making infused vinegars and wonder if the skins would make a good sour cooking vinegar.

I haven't done anything with them yet, but as my trees get bigger and produce more I may try some kind of a jam or chutney.
