    This pack is a good choice for anyone looking to go on anywhere from a 2 day trip up to even 2 weeks if you can pack really light.
    Please ask any questions in the comments and I will try to answer. Enjoy!

    This is one of the best pack reviews I've ever seen, been watching a lot because I'm trying to decide which pack to get and this is the best video I've seen, great job. I like it when people cover some of the smaller details that make something nice or not

    I am getting the 2015 model. I have a small Osprey pack and absolutely love the design and the Atmos is simply a larger version of it for the most part. I am going on a 10 hike in the fall and can't wait and this will be my pack.

      Larry Cloyes The 2015 model is much better than the pack in this video, in my opinion. The new Anti-Gravity system looks magnificent; I've been wanting to get my hands on one of those myself. You probably won't even realize you're carrying a pack for most of those 10 miles, hahaha. Let us know how it feels!

    I'm not sure what you would consider to be a minimalist but I left Springer MT on my AT hike with a pack that weighed 24 lbs including water and three days worth of food. I consider myself far from ultralight. I couldn't conceive of ever needing 55 lbs or more even in the dead of winter. My winter pack weight is still only in the mid thirties. The Atmos 65 is more than enough pack for any thru hike in the US.

    Good review. I just purchased this pack on the advice from a buddy who has through hiked the AT and CDT. Hey! You should be able to adjust the lid in such a way as to cover the frame. The two straps on the frame side of the back attached to the lid should help you do that. When you fill the pack very full however, you may not be able to cover that.

    I really like your vids. You appear very knowledgeable and clear.
    I have a question about the hip belt. In another vid that was posted by another reviewer, he needed to pull up some velcro inside the hip belt before moving it in or out. But in the model I just received today - Atmos 65 large - the hip belt extensions slide in and out freely, but are held in place when you tighten the hip belt. How much of the padded part of the hip belt is extended out depends on how you set up the straps. Looks like Osprey changed the system to make it easier to adjust on the fly. I like it better the way it is now - no fussing with velcro on the inside.

    Yes, it is difficult to get a Nalgene in there, but not everyone uses Nalgenes; there are many other bottles that fit in the side pockets comfortably. Thank you for mentioning the load lifters. Yes, they are an important part of every pack. We are not selling the pack; we are no way connected to Osprey or any company for that matter. We just tell people what we see and think. Thanks for your input!

    Thanks for the review! Did you not find the top compartment bag thingy that's detatchable to slide off where you wanted it? For instance other bags just have a hood that clips down as a lid, this has a bag that seems like it could let light showers of rain in if not positioned centrally.

    Thank you for your great review! I just bought this bag thanks to your great review and have a question about the floating lid. It seems that when I cinch down the lid straps, it does not cover the gray top of the pack frame. Is this normal, or should I figure out how to adjust it to cover the top of the load lifters / frame? Thanks!

  • @ReviewOutdoorGear

    I would recommend the Aether 70 personally, because it will fit more gear, especially for the longer trips. The build and functionality of the Aether is also 2nd to none (of the packs that I have looked at that is). The weight difference is not a big deal for me. The Atmos is better for the shorter trips or for the minimalist. Atmos max weight for comfort would be at about 55lb (whereas Aether is 65lb). Hope this helps.

    Great review, really liked it. I bought this exact backpack and I've used it three times now. Here's my question: has yours ever irritated your hips while hiking? Man, I got so sore I could hardly walk the next day, which is making me wonder if maybe I got the wrong pack for me. I really love everything about it though and I want it to work, but after only 6 miles in I was feeling it, and on the 6 miles back out... phew! FYI: my total pack weight was 26.54 pounds. Anyway, thanks!

  • @ReviewOutdoorGear
    @ReviewOutdoorGear  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey! Yeah, it shouldn't hurt that bad! I think you may have fit the pack incorrectly to your body! Check out the video on my channel about fitting a pack. If you fit it right and it still hurts, then I'm not sure what to say. I have not had an issue like this. With another pack, I would get a little sore, but it was because I had a medium belt and needed a large and also, I had 50+ pounds in it. Hope this helps, ask if not.

  • @andrisig33
    @andrisig33 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ReviewOutdoorGear To mention a pack this size for 1,5 to 2 weeks, depends by large if you have to take (water and) food with you as well. Ultra light backpacking is a sport on its own. This pack is not for that purpose at 1,5 pounds. If it is not for that, then don’t say it’s for a 2 wk travel. It’s most probably for 3 days “survival”. This pack is for getting somewhere and back again.
    For the rest a good review. I have learned something from your video.
    Thanks, but keep it real !

    I have a cheaper Jansport outer frame (the name escapes me) it is extremely light 2 or 3 pounds. I want a more quality one ( the Jansport is not the best quality) that is still that light. I am not the best hiker so I want the lightest every thing. Please help.

  • @ReviewOutdoorGear
    @ReviewOutdoorGear  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Check out the Atmos 65 on my channel...otherwise, just search around on-line for the lightest back...usually, you want something that would not rip/break on the trail, so you can't sacrifice weight for that, but other things like loops/pockets, extra zippers etc. may be sacrificed to make a pack lighter, so just keep that in mind. Good luck!

    Could you try to explain more about how you fix an axe (or pole, or something long) outside the backpack in those loops. That was some kind of twist movement... What you've done isn't really clearly visible. About (4:46)

    • @ReviewOutdoorGear
      @ReviewOutdoorGear  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure. Its so much easier to show than to explain, but here is my shot at it. You insert whatever you plan to attach vertically into the loop. You then twist the pole/etc so that the loop twists up and constricts around the pole/axe, and when the pole is in a vertical position (you want it to end up that way), you attach it to the rubber band towards the top of the pack. An axe is a bit different, because you can just insert the axe down into the loop with the handle pointing down. At this point the handle should be below the pack and the axe head should be hanging in the loop. You then lift the hand of the axe 180 up towards the rubberband/snatch and secure the handle. Does that make any sense?

    • @mlsauron

      ReviewOutdoorGear Thanks, I think I was thinking same as you explained. I must finnish my exams and try it!

    Do you have a recommendation between the Atmos and the Aether? I interpret the Aether to be a bit higher quality, carry a heavier load, and have a more unique lid. The extra pockets of the Atmos really appeal to me, however.

  • @andrisig33
    @andrisig33 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ReviewOutdoorGear Those side pockets are not easy to get to. Try to Pull out your water bottle and put it back again without help. Why didn’t you show that on the video? It will be very difficult if not impossible. You are not biased?? Oh, wait you are selling the pack!
    If you say something is doable then show it, don’t just say it is. Especially if it is not true.
    A very important feature you did not show are the load lifters, should be between 30 and 45 degrees
    Will you respond to this?
