The thing with fine natural hair, although it can be genetic. I can also be caused by over manipulation when it comes to certain hairstyles like tiny box braids, you just removing locs or it could be due to a lack of iron deficiency. But there are girls who naturally have fine natural hair

@@CoffeeCuties777 also, there are ways to make your hair appear more thicker like you said, twist, outs, and braid outs, and there are Coily clips ins, taking your iron deficiency pills. However, embracing your fine hair natural hair is just as important.
Yes my hair got extremely fine when I combed my locs out after 2 years. I chopped a lot off in January and my hair is doing well.

I refer to my hair as coily not curly. I bet people with curly hair will start calling their hair coily because certain people love to copycat. I'm in favor of a new hair chart for us.
Right. I see 4c hair or 4 type is talked about so much but many don't want to see bw love and embrace their own. I saw comments upset about it being called the "most" versatile.😂
I 💯 percent agree that 4c hair is underrepresented in media. So, when I do see it, it makes me so happy, and I feel seen. One example of this is in the show The Other Black Girl. The protagonist Nella wears her 4c afro in the workplace. Sadly, the show was canceled after 1 season. I wear my hair in an afro at my job, and I've gotten compliments from all my white coworkers. Interestingly enough, none of my black female coworkers say anything.

I can relate, at work white people loved and complimented my natural coily hair way more than black people never even noticed or said anything.
Some women don't compliment others and definitely won't if they feel jealousy towards you. They probably don't identify with the natural image.
I've received more compliments from white men when I wear my natural hair than any other group of people. Which is very interesting! I've had white men tell me that they love my ethnic beauty.
I have long thick 4a natural hair and I’m so glad I discovered your channel. Chrissie was the first pro black woman channel I came across years ago but I’m so happy I’m coming across more channels that are pro black women and uplift type 4 natural hair. I also had a relaxer when I was a little girl and I did the big chop when I was 18.

Totally agree…i never was into these types…if anything coily and dark skin should be at the top, as that is how humankind started.
I love our hair from 0 inch to 100 inch. Straight out of bed or going to a wedding. Puffs🌳. Locs🌴. Blowouts🌲. ALL

I have high porosity, 4B hair and I use the chi argon oil shampoo and conditioner, Shea moisture manuka honey hair mask and the Mielle babussa & mint deep conditioner (has protein which I loveee) then mix the 2 together w some water to make it less thick and then apply and let sit for at least 20 min w a cap on, and to moisturize my hair I use Mielle rosemary line leave in or the carols daughters coco cream butter to do mini twists :)
I mix amla oil, castor, jojoba, olive, vitamin e, black castor, Mielle rosemary line oil, avocado, and/or almond oil all in a bottle with peppermint essential oil and oil my scalp at least once a week (don’t need to add all of them! I do a mix based on what I currently have. Pick ones that benefit ur hair the way you need and go from there)
Note: the argon shampoo can be kind of stripping but I have a big bottle and I refuse to let it go to waste and buy more products💀 (say no to excessive consumerism and the need to constantly buy the newest product!)

14:52 i love the idea of creating a new hair chart! the only thing i would say is i think 3c should be included only bc *a lot* of girls with 4a hair also have some 3c mixed in, and a lot of girls w 4a hair think they have 3c and vice versa 💖

Yes!! 3c/4a right here and it’s like finding a unicorn when looking for content creators with my exact hair. My roots are 3c then trickle into 4a. I got 4a curls mixed throughout. There’s a small section in the center crown that is 4b. Then I got 3c strands all in the back 😂 it’s a circus. And I’m a dsbw! I actually know more black women with 3c/4a than 4c

I was always natural. Never had a perm. However, I lost my edges in middle school from wear and tear from headwraps at night. Located in the inner city poorer part of massachusetts and you can imagine the bullying was intense being around the black girls who had perms and dominican girls who had presses.

Also I haven’t touched on enough other factors that can cause hair loss but your correct things like head bands, incorrect pillow cases etc can cause it as well.
Lastly sorry you had to go through intense bullying because of it…have you been able to grow your edges back since?
@@CoffeeCuties777 My mother was profoundly progressive when it came to blackness and the beauty of it. I was the one who was psychologically effected from society's pressures. My mother DID hot comb my hair sometimes only because it was a feasible method to stretch. My mother always put in intricate geometric braids and twists styles with beads and adornments on my tresses. After a while I hated them because it was black and brown kids making me feel like there was something wrong with me. Then when I encountered white children they would worship me like I was queen Nefertiti.
My edges come and go... I finally learned how to do my own hair in 2021 because I depended on my mother so much. It's important to understand even without having relaxer or perm in my hair growing up you'll still be systemically effected by texturism "When are you getting your hair done" and when it was "done" it was a style they didn't like. "The beads fuck it up" and "why aren't your edges swooped" it's all so ingrained and beyond that those with supportive families are effected by it. It's like you have to have thick skin and fight your own people to feel secure.

My hair is kinky, coiled and high porosity!! I been using High Porosity moisturizing shampoo and conditioners! There is plenty out there! I try to use the ones with protein, like Nexus, Paul Mitchell, or Kendra! Also, I find the Mielle Leave-In Conditioner works Best on my high porosity hair! Hair Porosity does matter! Also since I workout and sweat, I wash my natural hair every 3-4 days! I also use a Deep Conditioner every 2 weeks, without heat. For High Porosity , Deep condition as the instructions say on the product! I started wearing Twist! And I already see a Cosmetologist coming on TH-cam stating Twist are not protective styles!! I have do what is best for my hair at this point.❤❤❤💯💯🥰🥰. Love your content!

I am a high porosity, fine hair girly 🙋🏾♀️😭 I didn’t know this until I moved down south for college. My hair appears thick when it’s dry but as soon as the humidity hit-POOF. A frizzball!! When I was up north I just halfway moisturized my hair and stretched it in pineapples at night.
I have only recently (it’s been a war the past 4 years) discovered that the answer to my hair problems was oh. So. Simple. My curls needed MORE water, not less. Because my hair soaks up moisture in the air so quickly I thought I needed to keep her dry to combat it. Dead wrong.
Now, I completely soak my hair in sections with a spray bottle before I add a thick curling cream and seal with DooGro mega thick grease. Personally, I’ve always used regular conditioner as a leave-in because it’s more hydrating but Cantu has an AMAZING leave-in conditioner cream I’m using rn. I also am using the DooGro follicle stimulating oil for my scalp. It’s been 2 weeks and the difference is astronomical in how strong my hair feels. Btw, I just refreshed my pigtails and out of 4 sections I lost the least amount of shed I’ve ever seen! I also ALWAYS wrap my hair in satin scarves before going to bed. And, I predominantly finger detangle. The only time I use a comb is when I’m stretching my hair at the root or using one of those little detangling brushes during wash day. Another tip: I shampoo my hair in jumbo braids to reduce tangling & breakage
Thanks for leaving all of these tips wow…I never heard of using conditioner as a leave in…thats doesn’t break off your hair if you don’t wash it out right away or do you wash your hair frequently (more than once per week)?
@@CoffeeCuties777 No ma’am! I wash my hair if not once a week then every other week. I don’t go crazy with my wash days. I’ll deep condition every blue moon and haven’t done a protein treatment in about 2 years. Even when I style, I use conditioner (if not a curling cream) and oil or grease as a sealant, finishing with a mousse if the style dictates it.
I learned back in high school that typical leave-in conditioners oddly dried my hair out, especially if they’re watery. So, I stick to conditioner (my logic being it’s supposed to moisturize anyway, right? 😂) I believe because I keep it simple I’ve never experienced product buildup or any kind, fortunately. And the protein treatments I had done in the past took my hair out no matter how infrequent I used them.
I’m not shying away from moisture this year just to show length. Ever since I started going crazy with the spray bottle my curls have been clocking in early and leaving late!
I figured out the same thing when i bought my hair steamer, my hair felt soft in a way it hasnt in a while. I always kept it in braids, barely moisturizing it, then it clicked, like duh what you water will grow. We've heard so much throughout the years to stay away from water, dont wash your hair, etc, when that's the exact thing we need.
@@makeuplayshaa Exactly!! I think many coily cuties are afraid of using too much water when we actually need it. It’s all about technique, not magical serums and oils. Adequate water with a good sealant is key to healthy curls

I do want to point out that Jamaican black castor oil is not medically proven to regrow hair, according to dermatologists.
They've said that as long as you stop doing what pulled out the hair in the first place and the follicles haven't been damaged beyond repair, the hair will regrow on it's own.

@@CoffeeCuties777 You’re welcome! I watch too many TH-cam videos 😄 There’s a dermatologist being interviewed in a video talking about myths. That’s where I heard it. She also mentioned that the act of massaging the area might be the reason for the regrowth (if the follicles are still healthy), not the oil.

@@CoffeeCuties777 Possibly. I think it might be tricky though. We have far more than 3 variations of curls, coils, and zig zags among us. We probably need to reimagine it. I've heard that some people prefer to use (reference) the LOIS hair typing system. That might be worth exploring and highlighting.

I have 4c hair right now I am using African pride leave in cream and use blue berry bliss oil to lock in the moisture I've been wanting to try new natural hair styles on my 4c hair so I have a Pinterest board of natural hair styles

@@AbianahAlmeidaI think it’s great and maybe she said that bc a lot of short hair in media is only pushed when it’s a dark skin woman, so the switch up is great not only to give light skin women someone to look up to/show them they can do it too, but also can help shift the narrative that “black (but really dark skinned) girls can’t grow their hair”
