- The RTX 3070 Ti is considered to be a pointless graphics card amongst the PC hardware and gaming community. As it didn’t really provide a substantial uplift over the RTX 3070 and most would gladly just pay $100 more to get a 3080 in a world where MSRP exists. However, we’ve seen that in past generation X70-Ti cards can match the card above when overclocked. In this video we overclock the RTX 3070 Ti to see if it can match an RTX 3080 and partially redeem itself.

Managed to get my hands on a 3070Ti for a new build. Would have preferred the 3080, but this will hold me over well until 4000 series cards. Luckily my 1080Ti sold at auction for $640 on EBay to offset the $963 I paid for the damn 3070 Ti. It’s a crazy market we live in, but a GPU to swap holds a little leverage over the crazy scalping and inflation.

Me too. I wanted a 3080 but got picked on the newegg shuffle for the 3070ti. I'm tired of hunting at this point. I paid the same price as well. I have a Strix 1080 that I bought used in 2018 for like $250. I'm hoping to sell the 1080 for $250 - $300 to get me back down to MSRP land for the 3070ti. I'll hold onto it for a good while.

Damn u would've been able to get a decent price on a 3060-3070 cards right now/ bad timing on that purchase. I got an EVGA 3070ti ftw3 ultra for 770 last week and they've been coming in stock quite frequently at all the retailers for the past week or so.
With GPU`s it`s always about; "well, for $100/$200 more, you could have got a whatever or a certain brand. Maybe we should all go into hock and buy 3090 ti. Then, we will all be happy, but just make sure you bought the right brand. Then they come out with something new. I can`t say the 3070 ti is pointless if it meets my needs, fits in my case and I didn`t have to sell my car to get it.
Legit, I believe we get carried away by specs and comparisons, trying to get the best... While a majority of us aren't actually going to use it to its full extent

@@jr6905 you are right. I haven’t paid that actually. I paid in january a zotac 3070 for 540€. I sold the zotac for 1200€ in april and I bought a 3070suprimX for 999. Now I sold the suprimX used for 1000€ and I bought the new 3070ti suprimX for 979€. Then, i paid 300€ for a 3070ti

everyone see 3070TI as waste of money...but here in UK it's actually a good pick. I got mine for 529 which is MSRP. its only 60 pounds over 3070 and 120 pounds under 3080! much better deal then US 100dollars step pricing.

I'm in a boat right now as we speak, either a 3070ti or a 3080...after watching this, yeah I'm happy to buy a 3070ti suprim X in Australia BTW for $1799 then a 3080 crappy brand for $2300, I don't see paying upwards of $500 to $800 for an extra 15fps, on a card that was basically overclocked in this comparison,

@@Shroooms no lol, 3070 ti is better than 2080 ti, make sure your gpu has proper cooling, it's cleaned, not undervolted, isn't bottlenecked by the cpu, and has a sufficient power supply.

@@blindshot709 I just bought the Ti, it was about $40 extra on top of the non-Ti. The difference probably closely matches the extra frames you get and given the absolute amount, it's nothing.

I just got a Zotac 3070 ti amp holo for 1700AUD which is cheap in Australia it's wild!! I considered the 3080 but could not justify the 2400AUD price tag on them and I am hoping that the 3070 blow my mind since I now have a 1660 ti card and it plays most of my favourite games on medium others on low settings. I know the PC community feels it's pointless but the MSRP may as well be from Narnia because it doesn't exist in reality. I hope I haven't now wasted my money...

The best thing to do with a 3070ti is undervolt it. You can increase performance by a little, decrease heat and power consumption all in one
Take into consideration the HUGE difference in price between the 3080 and the 3070Ti, in my country this difference is up to 400-600€ (depending on brands) is it worth the 5-8% better perfomance for 400 euros? the discussion would be to choose between 3070 or 3070Ti. I wish my gpu match the 3080 in perfomance...but i wont pay the difference
You CANNOT match the 3080 performance even with an heavily overclocked 3070Ti, those days are LONG GONE bro, you can see that neither CPUs or GPUs can be really overclocked much these days ( back then I managed to overclock my good old i5 2500K a full 1GHz over stock and was fully stable and now I cannot overclock my Ryzen 9 3900X more than 100 MHz with safe voltage )...
@@vladvah77 Intel is still very good at overclocking, my 9th gen i7 is pushed to 5.4 (500 MHz increase) and my friend has a i9 10850k pushed to 5.6 (400 MHz increase), and GPUs are also very well overclockable it's just that the gap between different models, like from 3070 to 3080, is massive and while overclocking is good it just isn't enough to match the higher teir card, it isn't that nothing is good at overclocking it's just with massive performance differences between models overclocking will only go so far

this is a pretty helpful video considering the 4070 performs worse than the 3080 while costing the same as the 3070ti. This shows you can oc the 3070ti and not miss out on much when it comes to next gen.
Much better off undervolting the 3070ti. It will drastically improve the thermals, lower the power consumption AND you can usually overclock it. Even if you can't overclock, it will have better 1% lows due to a more stable boost clock.
So I just got a bonus last month, Managed to save up $3,000 total for a new GPU or PC, I was wondering should I get an RTX 3090 or a 4000 series? I was looking at either the 3090, 3080 Ti to swap my PC’s RTX 3070 Ti out with because it’s been running a bit poorly now so looking into an upgrade or a 4080 or 4090, I can get a new Ryzen CPU too, I have an i9 9900K and a i9 12900 something.
So my question is can one of the 4000 series GPUs run GTA 5 at some default and some max settings, 4k resolution at over 120 FPS? I also want to get it to try some new games out, Getting it as more of a Family Computer where anyone can play and have a good experience because I don’t want everyone to play on my setup.
Thanks for the video, I’m working on overclocking my RTX 3070 Ti and wanted 3080 performance because I was short on change at the time but got a great deal for it, I paid $1,400 for my PC, RTX 3070 Ti, 16 gigs of ram but got an extra 32 here at home, i9 12th Gen, watercooling with some watercooler I forgot, I didn’t know too much at the time about PCs so yeah, Looking into an upgrade now 😅

What gets me about this whole 3000 series is the small delta between 3070 and 3090 yet its several times more expensive. Its like 20-35% more powerful? That translates into something like a 10% "smoother experience" from my experiences I have experienced. Get a 3070 and donate the rest. Your $ will be better utilized.
In 3090 you pay for memory, so its not for gaming.
The 3090 is a Titan-class professional GPU, it's NOT a true gaming card!
To the people above me 3090 is ment for gaming but also heavy productivity work and also it has that much ram for 8k gaming, if it wasn't a gaming card they would have made it a separate model like giving it a titan name or a new thing but no they decided to give it the 3000 lineup name. It's a gaming card that also can do heavy work like rendering and game at 8k

3060ti = 490 eur
3070 = 580 eur
3070ti = 700 eur
3080 = 900 eur
as you can see, the price difference increases, but the frame difference decreases per additional euro. this is why some people say the best to worst gpus are in the opposite direction.

Just picked up a brand new Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ti OC Gaming Edition from for 619.99. The problem with all these reviews is they keep talking about MSRP which is fucking stupid. Cards have never been MRSP and prob never will be again for this generation. LTT videos are the only ones that makes sense anymore because they go by actual market value aka real world pricing. The 3070 ti and 3070 in the real world not the mythological world of MSRP are basically the exact same price since it launched. Yea it sucks they took away potential SKU's for the 3070 to make basically the same card but more cards is still a GOOD thing. So since you can get both GPUS for basically the same price why in the fuck would someone not buy a 3070 ti over a normal 3070? That would be stupid. It's a slightly better card for the same price. Doesn't seem pointless to me. It's only pointless if both cards are MSRP which they are not and have not been. People need to stop using MSRP and base a review off real world pricing like LTT. Makes so much more sense. Idk why they are literally the only tech channel doing it. As for your results it does close the gap. Maybe not 100% sure but you are using one of the best factory OC model 3080s. A stock 3080 would not get those same results. So if you take the average frame rate of your 3080 down by say 5 frames which the factory OC easily adds on then the 3070 ti overclocked would be within 5 fps of giving the same performance as a stock 3080 at a much cheaper real world price. You can get 3070 ti's new right now for around 600-700 dollars yet the cheapest 380s are still around 900 or more. So the OC gains are not pointless imo and in demanding games where you go from 75 fps to over 80 that shit is noticeable.

I have some questions:
1. should you unlock voltage and drag the voltage meter to the max in msi afterburner?
2. I assume you have to increase the fan speed but by how much, my fans are already kinda loud and would increasing it make a noticable difference?
3. Nvidia has the auto overclock thing if you open the geforce experience menu, i have heard that there isn't really a point to overclock your gpu if that is enabled, is it so, and should you have it disabled or enabled after you have overclocked?
4. I have the evga 3070ti xc3 ultra, would there be any real difference in how much i should overclock?

I’m only 7 months late. But the voltage slider should be maxxed when you’re Ocing. Your GPU controls the fan speeds relative to the fan curve so you don’t have to worry about it unless you are extreme overclocking in which case your air cooler would have to run at 100%. Nvidia program overclocks your GPU but with a manual oc you can go much higher. And the Xc3 ultra should overclock nicely. The difference varies between each card and manufacturers but that’s hard to really test. I hope i helped

3070 SLI for sure, but have in mind that it not works on every game, so when it not works, the performance will sucks compared to a single RTX3080.
So basically if you overclock the 3070 Ti you get the performance it should have had to begin with sitting bang smack in the middle of 3070 and 3080? Oh well I got a 3070 ti on sale for $900 AUD, I guess around $700 USD and it’s a lot better than paying $1300 AUD to a 3080. The jump was just too big. I got a gaming x trio 3070 ti for cheaper than Australia's cheapest (according to pcpartpicker) 3070.
It's September 2022 and this subject is getting really confusing. Now ASUS has the 3070 Ti OC model plus a lesser version the 3070 Ti OC V2. In addition to your results I'll be searching videos for results of these 2 new models. Who knows? ASUS may have improved the overclocking over what you could get in their 3070 Ti.

I got my 3070ti X trip to +250 core, +1350 memory. Stable through stress tests. Some games refuse to launch at that tho. Forza H5 won’t launch with anything past +50 core, +500 memory

2100 core clock? wow i got a 3070 ti evga FTW ultra and i can barely reach 2040 or a bit more, when playing a real heavy game and getting hot it stables around 1950-1965 did i get a bad sample?
Did you undervolt the card? Is your PSU good enough? How did you OC it?
@@cptcrogge i did not undervolt i pushed everything to the maximum, the overclock was fully manual and im not new to overclocking. the psu is rmx 650 the cpu is a 5600x

@@cptcrogge 73-75 on max load depending on the room temp i can drop it to 70 with full speed on my case fans but still clock speeds are not good 1980 sometimes lower on the best cooling i can provide. i was expecting a lot more. and yes the oc is to its limit if i add only 10 on core i would get crashes.
@@cptcrogge edit: i just tried a game with supersampling 150 to stress it a bit more core clocks jump around from 1920 to 1980 while the fps is like 100 - 80. it feels like something is choking this card, or im just used to my old powerful strix card.

I picked up a 3070Ti FTW3 Ultra significantly cheaper than even the shittiest most basic 3080 I could get.
So, looking at your results, with my EVGA at +200 core and +1700 memory (22.4Gbps effective) I should be a smidge closer to the 3080.
So I got most of the 3080s performance for substantially less money (even comparing my FTW3 Ultra to the cheapest 3080) while I still got an incredibly well-built and silent running card. For me, with the market here, it was either going for a great 3070ti or just all in for a great 3080Ti. Still, 3070ti offers plenty of performance for my needs (3440x1440 144hz) while being a relatively cheap upgrade from my 2080.
ye trying to sell my 980 ti for around 300 and get a 3070 ti for around 900, it is expensive but if i wiat till their cheaper my 980 ti will no longer sell for anything so its not to bad.

The PSU just shuts off when too much power is drawn, so it's unlikely that to be the case. 750 watt is fine.

MSI Afterburner is a great tool. Auto OC sucks. Not worth using. Check out JayzTwoCents his guide on how to OC a GPU.

In a world where MSRP is only on the paper I had to pay 1300$ for RTX 3070ti Suprim X. If I would have chosen the 3080 or 3080ti the difference in price would have been doubled. MSRP is only relevant for lauches and only for USA. Europe and Asia are already flooded by scalpers and distributors that inflated the prices by alot. And the situation is worse from a country to another. For example in my country, RTX 3060 costs 1.3k$, RTX 3070 2k, 3080 2.5k, and surprisingly the RTX 3070ti is 3.2k$ from a distributor. I had to buy it from another country.

I do managed to buy a very nice ASUS RTX 3070 Ti TUF Gaming OC for "only" 1000$ last week and I'm so happy :-)

Hey All,, I first used Palit software and simply added + Mhz to core and VRAM, core was hitting 2075Mhz at gaming and voltage around 1.1V, was it safe ??
What you would recommend me? I have new Palit 3070 Gaming Pro, now switched from Palit software to affer burner.

Im pretty happy with my 3070ti it seems that I won the silicon lottery this time.. I run 2080mhz core clock stable.. tested for 10hours in MSI Kombustor
I think I’m getting pretty close to a 3080 and besides in my country different between a 3070ti and a 3080 is 200$
how are you not getting power limited? I'm limited all the time by the 330 watt maximum, my clock can't go above the default.
Mine runs out the box 1950 so that doesn’t seem too amazing I’ll have to try myself.
shoulda tested 4k. Most people buy 3070s for 4k.
That's on them. With a 3070 you either get high res. Or hig frames. Not both. Don't be greedy.

Personally I feel the 3070/3070ti are amazing cards both. I think they just made the 3080 such a monster that there was no way for even a 3070ti to compete.
thw 3070ti should at least be decently faster than the 3070 with more vRAM and it fails in both those regards. And I actually have the 3070ti.
@@lordmasterization As do I, and a properly overclocked 3070 ti is probably about 10-15% faster than a 3070. Perhaps 3070 super would be a more fitting name but, its still better and I'm happy.
@@lordmasterization The 3070 Ti can't have more Vram due to symmetrical memory bus restrictions. It is either allowed 8 or 16 gigs, and having 16 gigs would completely invalidate both 3080's, likely eating into Nvidia's profit margins due to increased demand for the cheaper 3070 Ti. (Assuming it actually had 16 gigs of Vram.). Trust me, Nvidia knows exactly what they are doing... It's just scummy.

It's very simple, the GPU die has MUCH MORE transistors inside for the "big boys" like 3080/Ti and 3090, the 3060/Ti and 3070/Ti are way smaller GPUs with less transistors so you cannot reach even a stock 3080 performance with a overclocked 3070 Ti. Let's NOT talk about how much memory the 3080 and the 3090 has...
