This is honestly my second favorite film. I was absolutely fascinated by the fluidity of the animation, and how seamlessly the toons and the humans played off each other (which Mary Poppins, a film I had seen in my childhood, completely failed at). I wanted to pry open the minds of the animators and figure out whether or not they used magic. Thankfully, a few years later, the BlueRay re-release came out and explained all of how they managed such a glorious feat (no craniotomies required), but the wonder still never fades watching this movie.
Despite the fact that this movie was supposed to be for kids, it did have a lot of adult things in it. Two studio heads get murdered, there is an implied "sex scene" between Jessica and Mr. Acme until it's shown later that Jessica and Mr. Acme were LITERALLY playing "pattycake". Bob Hoskins drops his pants in another scene with Jessica. A cartoon shoe gets gruesomely dissolved by Doom, and one of Doom's weasel henchmen was named " Smart-Ass". Not to mention Christopher Lloyd's terrifying (to children) "reveal" scene at the end. Still love this classic film.
They came close to another adult lingo. Eddie was going to say "balls " because it rhymes with "walls". But Rodger said "nose" because he didn't want Eddie to sing anything dirty.
Kristopher Lisowski The part where that little toon gets dissolved made me cry when I was little, & Judge Doom scared the shit out of me! Lmao! I was six when this came out. I loved this movie though, & still do. I have the same VHS copy I had back then. I also have Honey I Shrunk The Kids with the Tummy Trouble short at the beginning. I got up early every Saturday mourning to watch it, & the Sat mourning cartoons.
Eddie's alcoholism...I knew about that when I first saw the film as a four year old because my mom pointed it out. I think she did it because several of my extended family members had problems with alcohol at the time.
so if who framed together rabbit wasn't a thing, neither would the little mermaid?, or animaniacs?, or PINKY AND THE BRAIN???. that's pretty cool bro...
It would be awesome if we got another movie like this where humans and cartoons interact. It doesn't have to be another Roger Rabbit (though that would be sweet) or involve crossovers with cartoons (which would be glorious), its just such an interesting and visually awesome concept that needs to be explored more.
The youngest animator in Williams crew was James Baxter who was only 19 when he was hired, he would later be considered one of the best modern animators for his works at Disney and Dreamworks.
This film took so so so so so much work, it is amazing how much passion was put into it. I will never watch it the same, it was on of my favorites, but now it is a classic to me.
That's sad they didn't include Jessica's voice actress and singing actress in the credits when we all hear her voice when we see her.. absolutely perfect roles.
A couple facts you forgot to mention was that the original author Gary K Wolf loved the film even though it was not accurate from the book at all. In Who p-p-p-plugged Roger Rabbit, it is revealed that the events from the Who Censored Roger Rabbit book was a bad dream that Jessica had.
30 years already and Who Framed Roger Rabbit is still a classic. Also I never thought the novel would be darker then the movie. Also Judge Doom really scared the hell out of me as a child. I bet he was even scarier without the rubber mask on.
I can't believe they missed the song "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down" (the song Roger was singing in the bar) is the LOONEY TOONS THEME! Even Judge Doom called it "a LOONEY selection."
They did want to but one of the reasons there was no sequel back in the day was Bob Hoskins rejected playing the part again. He learnt to hallucinate for filming then could not stop for nearly a year. This part really messed him up.
So they grabbed, literally, EVERY animator in the free world east of the Pacific and still couldnt get all the animation work done that they wanted. Absolutely unreal.
To this day I consider this the most impressive film ever made. The film hold up and makes you believe the world exist. It’s a beautiful complexly made film.
A true gem of a film. Still glad to have it on cassete, and I'll never forget watching it when I was younger as a kid during my childhood. Extremely underrated this film was, and extraordinary especially with the effects they had. When it was released there was almost nothing like it, as not many films were able to have this style, and effects as the technology like CGI didn't exist yet, and this film accomplished so much for it's time. Top tier actors, characters, animations, storyline, soundtrack and honestly to me it was perfect. A true classic, worth watching. I'll never forget this film, and it's sad seeing the actors, and creators who made this possible, go, but it is what it is. Legend of a film. They don't make these anymore, but what a time it was.
Blame DreamWorks, sort of. Shrek was such a HUGE hit that other studios just decided that CGI movies were the new thing, while misunderstanding WHY Shrek was so successful. DW, from what I've heard, also loves hand-drawn animation, and it shows.
Wow, I never noticed how influential this movie was. I really loved it when I first saw it and it's definitely a classic. Glad to see it getting some more attention and respect.
The review was entertaining before it raped my childhood. They even had the actual voice actors to say that stuff, which is far more effective than a simple parody!
+Sn00kumsgal it probably seems like a good idea at the time. also, (i'm sorry) i can't help but see your picture as a gender-swapped Steven Universe (i think i spelled that right)
They really need to do a second Roger Rabbit movie. I doubt today's generation of kids would understand it, but at the same time it could be an interesting way to showcase how time has passed and how animation has changed. Since Hoppins, sadly, passed away, they would have to introduce a new character/actor to replace him anyway. This could make way for the possibility of setting Roger in our time era and introducing all the past toons from the place where the first movie took off all the way to current. I mean picture characters like Dream Work hanging out with Disney and Pixar or even Nickelodeon characters hanging out with Cartoon Network characters. It would be interesting and mix the old and the new.
+Luckygirl or better yet, have it be a prequel to Who Framed. Think about it, have it follow the Valliant Brothers as they solve mysteries. Have it end with the Brothers just getting done with the main plot, going into their car, hearing about the famous bank heist with Doom and then watch the car rush off...end credits. Boom.
Alex Biersner That could work, but again the problem is with Hoppkin's death and all, they would have to either find someone similar to him or showcase him as a young Eddy. Even in the film their is a photo of him and his brother so I mean...it could and couldn't work for that reason. I think honestly doing a squeal would be better so kids can associate with toons they recently know while also introducing character's parents and grandparents grew up with.
+Luckygirl Todays kids do know this movie though. Like once a moth or so Cartoon Network shows it, my niece knows it almost by heart because of this reason.
In addition to never blinking, Judge Doom's cape is always fluttering as if in a breeze, even indoors. Likewise it's for the same reason: to subtly make him more like a cartoon. Anyways, I honestly hope they don't make a new Roger Rabbit. Part of what makes the film so amazing is how much of a technical marvel it is, how they made cartoons feel like physical objects when nothing was actually there. If they made a film today, they'd throw Andy Serkis in a green onesy and call it a day. The test footage of CGI Roger doesn't have the same striking appearance as the original because CGI is overused and therefore not as interesting to look at. Roger Rabbit holds up because of the sheer effort put into it, a modern sequel wouldn't show nearly that level of effort.
To be honest. On the note of the Mary Poppins Penguins. Maybe before they got their role at disney they worked as the waiters at the ink and paint, After walt put out an ad for penguins, they signed on, but if given interviews, I'm pretty sure they'd say "Julia Roberts is an absolute doll, but she never looked me in the eye she'd always look to my right or to my left, but never directly at me."
Lloyd was honestly the best choice. Lee played his characters with a sophisticated, sinister and serious demeanor- however, I don’t think he wouldn’t have been that scary for kids. Curry is definitely terrifying in his notable roles, but it works against him- I would’ve been able to tell he wasn’t actually human much earlier due to his usually over the top and scary performances he delivers. Lloyd definitely also captured the fact that the character could be set up for a butt of joke, which I don’t see Lee or Curry ever doing in their roles. And because he played such a good hearted character like Doc Brown- it makes the role of Doom that much more of a contrast.
+David Gonzalez You beat me to it but yeah mah boi Jack is -black- i mean back. Well his voice actor is black so I guess technically he is back and black.
Felix was to make cameo appearance in Disney and Amblin Entertainment film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The rights to the character were not obtained, but he appears as the masks of tragedy and comedy on the keystone of the entrance to Toontown. Originally Felix intended to appear as a cameo in the deleted scene "Acme's Funeral".
History Lesson: The plot in the movie regarding buying and destroying all the trolleys really happened during the same time frame across america by the oil and auto companies to generate more revenue from their gas burning cars with their many brakeable moving parts. They seen how much money they were technically losing from having electric vehicles compete on the roads which were cheaper and more reliable. This war on electric transportation in general went on again from 1990-2005 and still exists in some degree.
After watching this movie again, I'm left to wonder: how would cartoon characters react to seeing anime characters, specifically how they move? Think about it; the cartoon characters in Roger Rabit are almost always moving and rarely stay still for more than two seconds. Even when they're standing still, a part of their bodies is still moving, e.g. Roger's ears. But anime characters are typically animated in such a way that they rarely move and talk at the same time, unless it's an action scene.
#77 - The two weasels that were cut were SLIMY & FLASHER. Slimy was cut cause the effects animators thought Wheezy's smoke was easier and faster to animate. Flasher was cut because Psycho animation was already finalized and they thought the two of them would be redundant. Sleazy is the given name to the six weasel in the roger rabbit theme park ride. FYI It was actually made for anther attraction that sadly, never saw the light of day.
I think Hopkins was the best choice in hindsight. Ford would’ve been funny, but he’s normally too serious for that kind of role. Murray, also would’ve made the film a bit more unnecessarily comedic than the situation needed- Scrooged is a great example how his usual comedic side doesn’t mesh with the more serious story that was intended at times. Hopkins knew how to balance when to be serious and when to be funny- which is important to be able to take the realism of a Toon/human world seriously.
Another fun fact: Disney's 90's animated series, Bonkers was inspired by this film. In fact, they originally wanted to make the series more like the movie with it being a live action/animated hybrid, but could not for reasons I can't remember. I think it was too expensive or something, so they just ended up making Bonkers 100% animated.
It would be great to have a film that portrays the many different eras of animation and video games coexisting in the same universe (other than Ready Player One) and have characters complimenting each other in a natural way, or playing off of each other in a humourous way that doesn’t feel forced/ shoehorned in, and there could be this foreboding essence throughout the film that threatens their very existence. It’d be great to see Classic-animated Mickey and Bugs share screen time with Mario and Sonic, and have The Simpsons share screen time with Merry Melodies, Goku and Vegeta interacting with Popeye and Bruno, etc... keep in mind that each interaction is to be done with meticulous care and consideration with characters’ personalities at the forefront of priority.
Wait there's really gonna a sequel? I would really like for Disney to bring Roger Rabbit back in action and they can add Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in there since he's now officially a Disney character again. I never realized this movie was meant for adults at first since I actually first saw it when I was like 6.
That the Magical Mel Blanc was able to lend his skills to voice the wonderful characters he breathed life to one last time before passing is EVERYTHING.
+SyNc._.iKevPlayZz the past 30+ vids have been tooned up if they dont make more bravest worriors, bee and puppycat, or a another series instead of making new channels that include more toonedup/107 facts, then im dead
@Cartoon Hangover Also, Who Censored Roger Rabbit? WAS released, and I don’t think there was ever a pelican character in Dumbo. You might have confused it with the stork. The pelican is actually a character named Monte, and he was in a cartoon called "The Pelican and the Snipe"
They need to make a sequel now with all of the great new shows. I can just imagine... Milo: I swear officer it didn't try to crush this man with a safe! It's Murphy's law! Officer: that's what they all say. The cops gets hit by roger in Benny the cab then gets further mutilated when the weasels chase after him in their car. ,milo: I'm just going to walk away now.
I knew a lot of work had to go into making this movie but HOLY SHIT i didn't know how much. This film is definitely a classic and for a ton of good reasons.
#27 and #28 thank goodness it was Bob Hoskins playing Eddie... I love Bill Murray in everything he does but Bob just fits the part of a noire detective perfectly.
They missed one I think is very cool. Bob Hoskins was actually British and spoke with a British accent. That's how good he was! He died in 2014, R.I.P.
The discovery of Jessica's missing panties was made on laser disc, not VHS. Someone was watching the scene in slow-motion. I believe the quality of VHS would have made the discovery nearly impossible to notice. The animators said they just failed to draw them in thinking no one would ever watch the scene so closely.
I'm pretty sure the Shoe wasn't the only character in the movie Nancy Cartwrite voiced. Earlier in the film when Eddie Valiant leaves Maroon Cartoons to board the trolley, you can hear a voice that distinctly sounds a lot like Bart Simpson.
#105- The image of Pinky and the Brain actually doesn't come from a still from a TV show nor any of the promo material! It comes from an animated sequence from the online movie reviewer Nostalgia Critic that I animated! :D :D
Judge Doom was supposed to be a toon known as Baron von Rotten, also he didn't blink was because he was wearing a mask with fake eyes. The pig head and and the rest of the scenes were in fact included in either the VHS or TV aired version of the show, I know because I saw it myself as a child back in the 90s.
This movie really was a once in a lifetime masterpiece, that we'll most likely never seen the likes of again.
Never say never, bud.
Looney Tunes back in Action ;)
O yea I feel like it was a curtain call finale on the classic tunes
The only thing that was similar was Cool world pretty much with ppl and animation at the same time

Not to mention Christopher Lloyd's terrifying (to children) "reveal" scene at the end. Still love this classic film.
It's still for kids because they don't know what any of that is
It’s basically for everyone who (from an adult perspective) can get past the mentality of “animation is just for kids”.
They came close to another adult lingo. Eddie was going to say "balls " because it rhymes with "walls". But Rodger said "nose" because he didn't want Eddie to sing anything dirty.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact that if you look closely you can see that Judge Doom's teeth are actually animated!
I'm pretty sure they aren't animated, but are fake teeth. Love your stuff btw!
They are theatrical fake teeth!
20:59 If you look closely, you can also see the hands of Jessica's gloves, touching a real human... are actually real hands.
I did notice that as a kid but forgot about it up until I read your comment.
Holy smokes! He's a toon!
This film took so so so so so much work, it is amazing how much passion was put into it. I will never watch it the same, it was on of my favorites, but now it is a classic to me.

I never realized this movie was meant for adults at first since I actually first saw it when I was like 6.
That the Magical Mel Blanc was able to lend his skills to voice the wonderful characters he breathed life to one last time before passing is EVERYTHING.
Fact 108#- The movie inspired the MMO game called "ToonTown" which closed down late 2013.
Still can't believe they did that.:(
SpeediraWindira Agreed
+Emperor Palpatine
HI THERE! There's a video game of Toontown?
Yeah, it was canceled so Disney could work on Club Penguin but Fans Recreated the game. He is the link: toontowninfinite.com/
They also have Toontown rewritten and many other copies of the game
Am I the only one STILL wondering when Bravest Warriors Season 3 will come out?!?!
No we may never get the release date either.
ehhh....i know. ........just.....waitin....
+SyNc._.iKevPlayZz the past 30+ vids have been tooned up if they dont make more bravest worriors, bee and puppycat, or a another series instead of making new channels that include more toonedup/107 facts, then im dead
Bianca Waddle I know right? :(
It's been, like, forever...
+CartoonHangover
Please do a "107 Facts About Space Jam" video because 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the movie "Space Jam"!
Ever since I saw clips of this film, this universe is the one I think about every day.
Great video.
Wow, guys! I love roger rabbit. I never relized what a large part this movie had in making animated disney movies what they are today. So, thank you!
It's amazing that this movie even exists. Nothing comes even close to it. The closest is MAYBE Space Jam, but it's not even close.
Jessica isn't the only toon who can suppress her word bubbles, it's just a skill that most toons don't have.
I usually hate your 107 facts, but this one was really good!
I absolutely love that you covered a classic :)
They need to make a sequel now with all of the great new shows. I can just imagine...
Milo: I swear officer it didn't try to crush this man with a safe! It's Murphy's law!
Officer: that's what they all say.
The cops gets hit by roger in Benny the cab then gets further mutilated when the weasels chase after him in their car.
,milo: I'm just going to walk away now.
this film is so much better as an adult now you understand all of that that other stuff
They should make a sequel to this movie but use every thing they did from back then to have that nostalgia feeling
I knew a lot of work had to go into making this movie but HOLY SHIT i didn't know how much. This film is definitely a classic and for a ton of good reasons.
107 facts about One Punch Man
yes
+Jabriel Rojas i would love that
+Jabriel Rojas I don't even watch that Anime and I agree this is a good idea!
YES.
#27 and #28 thank goodness it was Bob Hoskins playing Eddie... I love Bill Murray in everything he does but Bob just fits the part of a noire detective perfectly.
It's a shame that traditional animation is a rarity nowadays.
I know right? All this 3D computer stuff moved in and totally murdered it. ;-;
Lps Candy Starz
Plus all the fake 2D on TV.
@@austinreed7343 fake?
@@Agentmoss22
Yeah, all the unnatural movement in Flash.
@@austinreed7343 i don't think that's fake in any sense but aight
They missed one I think is very cool. Bob Hoskins was actually British and spoke with a British accent. That's how good he was! He died in 2014, R.I.P.
What about Toontown Online? That game was very inspired by the movie but other than that great vid!
107 facts about Fullmetal Alchemist!!! there are 2 series to choose from!!
we both know the better one
HEY! yeah but some fun facts may still show up, my recomendation is always the manga

107 facts on Alice in Wonderland (2010)

17:37 gentlemen, get in line
I love this movie!! I’m a Cartoonist, so this is a big inspiration for me!
This was my favorite movie of all time. Thank you.
107 Facts About Courage The Cowardly Dog! please
107 Facts About Finding Nemo!
The movie seemed so complicated to make, it’s a wonder that it was made at al.
Lucky for us it was.
107 facts about star vs the forces of evil! ⭐️
I'd give it a few more episodes
i second that!!!!
yes yes yes
Imma go watch the movie for the fourth time now. You made me love it even more. DEDICATION.
If there's ever a sequel to the movie we can always hope to see Naruto use the rasengan.
Shouldn't be
Cartoon shoe still makes me cry!
The only fact I know is Jessica Rabbit is hot af
pervert
If HE isn’t turned on by Jessica, there’s something wrong with him
#105- The image of Pinky and the Brain actually doesn't come from a still from a TV show nor any of the promo material! It comes from an animated sequence from the online movie reviewer Nostalgia Critic that I animated! :D :D
107 Facts About Ren & Stimpy
yes please
I third this!
"Dont Wizz On The Electric Fence❗️"
This was a wonderful movie with tons of our favorite cartoon characters.
When I was little, I cried when Judge Doom put the cartoon shoe in the dip 🙁🙁
RIP Richard Williams.
This is the type of movie I can watch multiple times without getting tired of it!
Anyone else notice that at fact 6 (1:30) the number 7 is at the top left instead of 6?
One of my favorite childhood memories. Thank you for this! :D
Oh, also: 107 facts about Fist Of The North Star (Hokotu No Ken!) please
11:13 ¡Ay, caramba!
That was in the Marvel comic sequel, not the film itself. Whether or not the comic is canon is debated by fans
Wow. The book seems super interesting. I wanna have it.
