I always thought the animation in Jimmy Neutron was really good. I think it something to do with how every movement feels like it has real weight and gravity to it. When a character throws an object, it may not have the exact physics it would in real life, but close enough- and the movements in the show just feel so believable. The rigs also have a lot of expressiveness, most notably in the faces. Nobody looks like a stiff toy, or a low-poly PS1 character. For example, I can't enjoy Beast Wars because all the characters look fake as hell and move fake as hell. I cannot suspend my disbelief with that show. But with Jimmy Neutron, even though the artstyle is very cartoonish, the movements and facial expressions are very realistic, so it is more palatable to watch.
Definitely. It immerses you so you see everything through the lens of the world they're portraying, so nothing ever seems weird or uncanny because it's just part of that world's characteristics.
I don't know why, but this video kept giving me moments where you can't help but feel like you're celebrating with the team that made it all. Show must've been a bigger part of my childhood than I remember, lol
I never even realized that Jimmy Neutron only lasted 3 seasons. It felt like it was on air so much longer when I was a kid but then again 3 years does seem like a lifetime to a kid that age. In the little time it was on air though it made a huge impact on me. An impact that stays with me to this day. I still love to learn and Jimmy Neutron kind of brought that to the forefront.
@@gracekim1998So you watched fairly odd parents but never once saw a commercial on the very same channel talking about Jimmy Neutron? Find that hard to believe lol
As a young adult in the early 2000s, I really liked this show. The early episodes were good with the main three boys with Cindy and Libby as foils but got even better when the latter two became part of the crew and they all went on adventures.
I was about 6 when the movie came out. It was great man each episode was different and creative. Looking back it kind of reminds me of the old twilight zone with the outlandish scenarios Jimmy and the town would get into. I might’ve liked this show a tad bit more than odd parents
Part of me would love to see it return, but I also know it wouldn’t be the same. I think a lot of the charm came from being a product of the late 90s and early 2000s, I don’t think it can be recaptured like that. Plus, if we’re being honest with ourselves here, Jimmy Neutron is very much a kids show. Not that it’s not enjoyable as an adult, but it’s not to the same degree as say early SpongeBob or Rocko or Regular Show etc. I feel like if Jimmy came back as a reboot, it would get buzz for a day and then nobody would really care again.
I think you're right, even shows like Hey Arnold Jungle Movie and the Invader Zim movie we got a few years ago created much hype, but were appreciated.
I think it would be possible, if the show grew with the audience. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it should be "adult" (by which I'm referring to the definition you're thinking of), but has matured in a way of showing that while it is the same Jimmy in essence, it's grown up a bit. A large aspect of the enjoyment with Jimmy is the weird inventions and off-the-walls adventures; going to Egypt, finding a mad scientist in the Bahama Quadrangle, The Junk Man, and many others. Point is, there's a very fine balancing act that would be incredibly difficult to pull off successfully.
*Fun Fact:* The reason why Jimmy Neutron (or Johnny Quasar) managed to breath in space because he doesn't need an oxygen tank to survive, he has oxygen inside his forehead.
@@Herobello7141 Of course, Jimmy transfers the oxygen to them from his forehead, how you may ask? Well, my dear friend, it's pretty gross but- *Gets cut off by Carl Wheezer singing about the moon*
I loved both the Jimmy Neutron movie and series as a kid But I will say it’s a shame that a 4th season never came to be. And it’s an even bigger shame that a box-office bomb resulted in the closure of its animation studio. If Jimmy Neutron ever does get revived, I hope that they put some of their scrapped ideas to good use
Jimmy Neutron was a big part of my childhood, I rewatched the movie so many times as a kid and watched all the episodes and crossover special, I'm very positive that someday Nick will bring it back with the modern CGI technology
I stumbled across your channel via the Bionicle videos, and couldn't believe you hadn't been uploading for years. Your videos already feel very skillfully made and well written. I can't wait to see what's next!
I'd be interested in a history of Fairly Odd Parents video for sure. One of my most prominent childhood memories is the crossover between it and Jimmy Neutron, seeing Timmy in 3D and Jimmy in 2D
Jimmy Neutron was such a powerhouse cartoon, easily interchangeable with SpongeBob and Fairly Odd Parents at the time, it always seems so weird to me that nick just let the franchise die. It was my favorite growing up alongside Invader Zim.
Seeing people on social media compare the character models from "Rugrats" (2021) to those of "Jimmy Neutron" I find is a testament to its influence on how computer-animated series are visually developed when granted the time and resources.
I would argue that part of the success of the first seasons of rugrats was due to its cheap and archaic looking animation style. Jimmys animation worked because it was a whole new show but when you start a show with the characters looking one way and eventually they look entirely different than they once did it takes a lot of the magic away. I even feel that way about South Park.
Don't really comment on videos that often, but I just wanted to say that everything from your writing, to editing, to narration is fantastic, and you deserve way more attention than you get (Also a huge fan of your music choices, especially the tracks by Intense)
@kettei@@Pax.TH-cam absolutely agree with both statements. I hope he makes more of these documentaries. There is a natural feeling to his writing that straddles the line between a professional TV documentary and a conversation with a friend. It's very engaging. I watched the entire Bionical series after the first one was recommended to me and I couldn't have cared less about Bionical at the beginning yet I was rooting for it in the middle and cheering it on by the end.
I remember in first grade. My teacher Mrs Matthews rolled in the old big box tv. And put on “Jimmy Neutron” I had never really heard of it. I was took away. It was SUCH a good movie. Even looking back. There’s TONS in the films for kids. And there’s stuff for parents as well. Such a good film. It’s good to learn about it’s history. Insane to think the concept came 16 years before it’s release. It gives me hope for more things like Jimmy to come along.
I remember the absolute hype around this movie. I also remember me and my mom going to like, every store looking for the soundtrack. Every song on it was an absolute Banger.
It was a huge hit in latin america (or at least in Mexico). There are times where Mexican tv still transmits some episodes of the show and, of course, I leave the tv on to at least listen to it in the background. Easily one of my favorite shows ever.
I knew that because a lot of Spanish videos that do "Best Nickelodeon Shows" often list this as no. 1 or someplace in the top 5 while lists like these made in the US don't always include this show.
One of the big successes of this show is, ironically, that it didn't outstay its welcome. So many shows will run one and on, getting worse over time. Jimmy Neutron never had that time to turn bad, it was golden from start to finish. I fear that if it had run longer, even by 2 or 3 seasons, it would have deteriorated as the writers ran out of ideas.
I remember watching the Jimmy Neutron short where he introduces Goddard to Cindy and has him mess with her dog and that's what convinced me to drag my parents to the film.
Those Jimmy Neutron interruptions still bring a warm smile to my face. The levels of ingenuity, charm, and passion during this era of Nickelodeon are sometimes likened to lightening in a bottle and I couldn't agree more.
I really dig this short yet throughout look at franchise's history without any major dramatic nonsense padding it out. Not everything needs to be a 2-hour cinema verite documentary about a scandalous lost media mystery. Sometimes a show gets made and then it ends without much else to it and it's nice to hear those stories too.
In the United States, Jimmy Neutron was never properly syndicated. It only aired on cable, airing reruns on Nickelodeon until 2012 and the spinoff channel Nicktoons until 2021. There are rumors that the Christmas special aired once on CBS sometime in the mid 2000's.
This brings much memories. I was in the industry at that time - working on 2D digital animation. I was working with Silicon Graphics computers. These cost 10,000+! And rendering took so long. All on 17 inch screens. Thank you.
That is so cool! Watching old footage of animators working with dual crt's side by side was really cool to see as well. Those desks must have been sturdy!
The worst part about finding a banger TH-cam channel early is that I’ve already watched all you’re videos I love you mr. slow start, (previously mr. slow)

I genuinely think that if you keep it up, you'll eventually be regarded as one of youtube's best documentarians. (side note, seeing that little Storm Hawks blip was a wonderful little blast from the past. I'd love to see a video about it's history.)
the movie first approach is a damn smart move, getting a majority of your assets pre established and high quality renders mustve saved them millions over the course of the TV show run.
I didn't know the movie came first for the longest because of the promotions. I definitely thought the show had already started and then we just got a movie in the middle of it. loved this show. great video!
Ok random as hell, but I had a childhood friend who i always thought looked just like Sheen, he's Japanese - Mexican. And finding out Sheen's character was originally Japanese validates my childhood so hard 🤣
Born in ‘96, that movie was one of the first movies I saw/comprehended/enjoyed. I remember every day after school if Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, or Jimmy Neutron was on tv I was happy!!! Thanks for the info
The idea of the Jimmy Neutron gags was a stroke of genius! Along with the mini episodes, it really brought the hype towards the movie. I was really looking forward to the movie because of them. And the movie lived up to the expectations it set. It was one of the most memorable moments of my childhood.
What a fantastic video! I remember this show being advertised in Germany in some kid's magazine (I forgot the name) and when I watched it, I wondered what "DNA productions" or "Ohhhh Entertainment" is. Now hearing and seeing all the names behind the companies is like a puzzle that makes the whole picture. (Also, the marimba jingle playing in DNA outro is also the jingle that plays when CloneDVD/Alcohol is done ripping a disk to ISO^^)
Jimmy neutron was always one of my favs! I have very fond memories of the show. My cousin and I went to see the movie together and we immediately fell in love with the series. Great video!!
As much as I loved Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, and Danny Phantom... Jimmy Neutron was the best overall in every way. The concept, creativity, main plot, characters, etc. It was such a fun show! I'm 29 years old today, but I'm still hoping this great series comes back. I love where it was heading with Jimmy and Cindy, and would love to see the show back! Listening to the cast here not lose their original voices at all brings me a lot of joy! I last binged the whole show again over 5 years ago. In 2017, I think. I really hope this show returns...
That was something that awakened the deep sleeping love I have for this show and specially the movie. The little kid crying with the full belly for his parents in the movie was the scene that I repeated at least 20 times bursting in laughter every time.
Wow, this was a wonderful video essay. You did a lot of research to create this project. Looking back Jimmy Neutron’s animation was really top notch and now I know why.
I met one of the animators for the movie at an convention a few years ago. It was quite interesting to hear him talk about the more primitive software they had to use back then
This was a great presentation, I appreciate you! A minor grammatical note: myriad replaces the qualifier on either side. A myriad of things is actually just myriad things. Thanks again!
This video was really good, my only complaint is that the glitch effects were sometimes distracting, but I’ve been watching your videos lately and they are really good! Also, I hope you have a good day :)
Wow, I remember all the ads and promotions that Jimmy Neutron had. I could have sworn the show was already out at that point and was the reason the movie got made in the first place.
I really like beast wars, warts and all it's a good transformers show which set the standard and pace for all future transformers shows, some of them don't even live up to the writing and impact on fans that it had as the second transformers series.
Jimmy neutron was my idol as a kid. I literally wore the VHS tape out rewinding it time after time lol. And it’s always fun going back and to rewatch and see all the things you missed as a kid
I still remember seeing this in theaters. I didn't have cable, but this 7 year old and his cousin basically died laughing. This was and still is one of the most fun and clever films I've seen... and even still it holds up today. Sure, modern 3d looks different, but the animation in Jimmy Neutron is fluid and consistent, which to me, makes it it's own style. The show was incredibly clever, and fun. I'd watch it any day of the week.
@anthonyhernaderez8176 I think a Jimmy and Dexter crossover should happen after I think TimeWarner (the company that owns Warner Bros. Which owns Cartoon Network which also owns Dexter’s Laboratory) should just outright buy National Amusements (which owns Viacomcbs which owns Nickelodeon which also owns Jimmy Neutron) and then BAM! It could happen.
I'm a 28 year old nerd who to this day has a Jimmy Neutron towel from back in the day. It is bleached, full of holes, and no longer usable as towel, but it is a reminder of one of my favourite shots that helped me get into a degree in computer sciences.
When my son was about 4, he would watch re-runs of this show constantly. It seemed to me that they ran the same episodes over and over and over. Now that I know there were only 3 seasons, that makes sense.
This was great! I had just made a video just like this for my channel, only it was about The Dukes of Hazzard. Fantastic job on this man! Only i cant believe you didnt mention the jimmy/timmy power hours...
Solid vid. The ending hit me. We’ll never get those years back watching this show as a kid. When I was in Delaware those summers watching this show etc. wow. Gotta do a viewing of it all sometime
Jimmy neutron was my favorite as a kid. Watching this really brought the nostalgia out. I remember all those little adverts for him back in 2001. It’s sad that they pulled the plug after three seasons.
For some reason, this show wasn't that popular in South Korea (it's more of a curiosity at best and they at least dubbed all the episodes.) It did even worse in Japan where only 3 episodes were dubbed before they pulled the plug on the show. Only a short clip of one of the Japanese dubbed episodes is on TH-cam.
This takes me back. I still remember my sister having an Aaron Carter cd that had the preview for the jimmy neutron song. Which not going to lie, was a banger from my perspective. Bro I didn’t think I would be nostalgic for this time. But I was around 10 during this time.

I can't believe he didn't even mention the crossover between Timmy Turner and Jimmy neutron.
That was the movie-level hype back in the day. As a kid, the crossover episode was amazing. And everyone talked about it at school. Fun times.
The crossovers is the only way I heard about Jimmy, as I never saw his show on tv😅
@@gracekim1998🧢
As long as the original writers and creators has some say in it I’m sure they’ll make it nice
**BREATHE*
@@Herobello7141 Of course, Jimmy transfers the oxygen to them from his forehead, how you may ask? Well, my dear friend, it's pretty gross but- *Gets cut off by Carl Wheezer singing about the moon*
Meat canyon anyone?
Fun Fact: Planet Sheen was were I awaken to my kink as a child.
Roast of the century
I loved both the Jimmy Neutron movie and series as a kid
But I will say it’s a shame that a 4th season never came to be. And it’s an even bigger shame that a box-office bomb resulted in the closure of its animation studio.
If Jimmy Neutron ever does get revived, I hope that they put some of their scrapped ideas to good use
I babysat for the director when I was younger, I used to love hearing all the behind the scenes info and bits that didn’t end up in the movie/show!
Jimmy Neutron was a big part of my childhood, I rewatched the movie so many times as a kid and watched all the episodes and crossover special, I'm very positive that someday Nick will bring it back with the modern CGI technology
What do you think about Planet Sheen?
I stumbled across your channel via the Bionicle videos, and couldn't believe you hadn't been uploading for years. Your videos already feel very skillfully made and well written. I can't wait to see what's next!
And I can't wait to show you guys! Thanks so much for the kind words, especially about my writing!
I'd be interested in a history of Fairly Odd Parents video for sure. One of my most prominent childhood memories is the crossover between it and Jimmy Neutron, seeing Timmy in 3D and Jimmy in 2D
And how it didn't get one, not two, but three crossovers
I enjoyed the heck out of the Jimmy/Timmy Power Hours. They were all hysterically funny
Check out Nicktendo’s ongoing retrospective of the series it’s really well made and researched
Dude that's the episode I was thinking about during this entire video😂
That was a HUGE deal as a kid. Me and my brother stayed up all night to watch it.
Agreed. I really think Jimmy set the standard for a lot of studios. Amazing to see what's being done today because of it.
I actually loved this show while growing up, it was so incredible.
Don't really comment on videos that often, but I just wanted to say that everything from your writing, to editing, to narration is fantastic, and you deserve way more attention than you get
(Also a huge fan of your music choices, especially the tracks by Intense)
Thank you very much Kettei! Especially for the kind words about my writing! So glad you enjoy the channel. Hopefully we'll reach 10k soon :)
An exciting new channel for sure.
@@Pax.TH-cam so glad you like the channel man! thank for taking interest.
@kettei@@Pax.TH-cam absolutely agree with both statements. I hope he makes more of these documentaries. There is a natural feeling to his writing that straddles the line between a professional TV documentary and a conversation with a friend. It's very engaging. I watched the entire Bionical series after the first one was recommended to me and I couldn't have cared less about Bionical at the beginning yet I was rooting for it in the middle and cheering it on by the end.
i kept on being ready to select my skater
Man, what was up with 1990s/2000s animation studios and movies about ants?
Its was probably because bug's were easier to animate without them looking weird
@NJEZ7 exactly. Humans were extremely hard to animate. One of the reasons why Pixars movies focused on non human characters
CGI was rarely new and most animations looked terrible on Human designs
Love the video! Keep it up! Never realized how much nostalgia I had for this show!
Me neither until I started working on the video!
One of, if not THE best soundtrack of any 3d animated movie ever.
Rip Aaron Carter ❤
It was a huge hit in latin america (or at least in Mexico). There are times where Mexican tv still transmits some episodes of the show and, of course, I leave the tv on to at least listen to it in the background. Easily one of my favorite shows ever.
I knew that because a lot of Spanish videos that do "Best Nickelodeon Shows" often list this as no. 1 or someplace in the top 5 while lists like these made in the US don't always include this show.
@@josephrowe849 i think it's because of the latin dub, the same thing happened with malcolm in the middle
I actually liked Jimmy Neutron more than Fairly Odd Parents, I found the plot and humor more enjoyable.
There's not nearly enough JN commentary on TH-cam, Fantastic video!
Facts
In the United States, Jimmy Neutron was never properly syndicated. It only aired on cable, airing reruns on Nickelodeon until 2012 and the spinoff channel Nicktoons until 2021. There are rumors that the Christmas special aired once on CBS sometime in the mid 2000's.
Too bad this show never got the credit it deserved.
It even got its own ride with other nicktoon characters before being replaced by despicable me
This brings much memories.
I remember spending all year in 2001 being so hyped for the movie. I always wondered why it was announced so far ahead of its release.
It wasn’t just the animation the show had very talented writers and jokes for adults that would go over kids heads yet still be entertaining
The worst part about finding a banger TH-cam channel early is that I’ve already watched all you’re videos
I love you mr. slow start, (previously mr. slow)
This rebrand is going to keep me up at night. The confusion surrounding what people should call me is painful to watch and for that I apologize...
Glad you like the videos though!
That is well said 👍
The quality on these videos is awesome. The care and love for the subjects is really palpable, and makes me excited for the next one!! Keep it up!! ❤️
Thanks so much Alice. These comments keep me going!
I genuinely think that if you keep it up, you'll eventually be regarded as one of youtube's best documentarians.
(side note, seeing that little Storm Hawks blip was a wonderful little blast from the past. I'd love to see a video about it's history.)
Wow what a compliment! I have no plans on slowing down so thank you!
the movie first approach is a damn smart move, getting a majority of your assets pre established and high quality renders mustve saved them millions over the course of the TV show run.
Excellent video! Never realized how interesting the history of Jimmy Neutron was.
I didn't know the movie came first for the longest because of the promotions. I definitely thought the show had already started and then we just got a movie in the middle of it. loved this show. great video!
I had so much fun with this show as a kid. I ended up making my own lifesize Goddard model out of cardboard and sat it next to my beanbag chair :)
As a kid who heavily watched Nickelodeon at this time, I appreciate this video more than you know. Thank you 🙏
Another great video. I'm glad to see you getting the attention you deserve.
Love these type of videos. Hitting those childhood feels right now.
Ok random as hell, but I had a childhood friend who i always thought looked just like Sheen, he's Japanese - Mexican. And finding out Sheen's character was originally Japanese validates my childhood so hard 🤣
That’s funny. As a kid I always had a feeling sheen was Chicano but I didn’t really know
Born in ‘96, that movie was one of the first movies I saw/comprehended/enjoyed.
I remember every day after school if Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, or Jimmy Neutron was on tv I was happy!!! Thanks for the info
Interesting that in some alternative timeline you could see Jimmy Neutron as being a kind of "Magic School Bus" kind of show on PBS Kids.
The idea of the Jimmy Neutron gags was a stroke of genius! Along with the mini episodes, it really brought the hype towards the movie.
I was really looking forward to the movie because of them. And the movie lived up to the expectations it set. It was one of the most memorable moments of my childhood.
They dont make em like this anymore.
I wouldn’t say Jimmy Neutron ever fell. The quality of the show grew with each season. It’s just that the company who animated it fell.
Exactly.
@@Whocares158season one intro or season 2
I was so obsessed with the TV show back in the day :D
it really looks stunning for it's time
I was a kid at this time, and the promotional bits had me sooo excited for the movie. Imo the animation style aged well
Jimmy neutron was always one of my favs! I have very fond memories of the show. My cousin and I went to see the movie together and we immediately fell in love with the series. Great video!!
It’s pretty cool how much trust they had in the show before it ever even came out
As much as I loved Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, and Danny Phantom...
Proper video this. Was nice to revisit one of my childhood classics.
Also, nice selection of BG music
I met one of the animators for the movie at an convention a few years ago. It was quite interesting to hear him talk about the more primitive software they had to use back then
getting a feature length film budget to create your assets and then reusing them for a show oh my god thats genius
Right. Megamind should've taken some notes there...
This was a great presentation, I appreciate you! A minor grammatical note: myriad replaces the qualifier on either side. A myriad of things is actually just myriad things. Thanks again!
The movie was amazing. The parents all disappearing was like a kid’s dream come true
This video was really good, my only complaint is that the glitch effects were sometimes distracting, but I’ve been watching your videos lately and they are really good! Also, I hope you have a good day :)
Fair point! I am working to rely on them less! Very happy to hear you enjoy my videos :)
I really wish there was at least a 4th season for jimmy neutron,
(I try to forget planet sheen was a thing)
Man!!! You should make more documentary type videos like this!!! Found your channel today and have watched every video!! Great work!
Jimmy neutron was my idol as a kid. I literally wore the VHS tape out rewinding it time after time lol. And it’s always fun going back and to rewatch and see all the things you missed as a kid
Wow a behind the scenes of my favorite childhood show GREAT VIDEO!!! thanks 😊
Wow! Such a tremendously insightful (and enjoyable) video. Subscribed!
DreamWorks Antz is a banger. I loved this movie as a kid.
This show was so great. loved the gags and the meme potential was nice.
This show was my childhood and seeing this was dope to see how this show took so long to make.
your channel is great!
I came from pyrocynicals most recent video, and have basically binged all of your content.
The show had a good run and a lot of memorable episodes and even completed Jimmy and Cindy’s romantic arc.
Literally liked the video only for the croissant clip... oh the nostalgia
There was no fall. Everything about Jimmy Neutron is Untouchably Gold 🏆
Watched all the way through and I really liked your style! Subbed bro!
I always wanted Jimmy and Dexter crossover as a kid. Still holding out for that one.
I had no idea Planet Sheen ended in 2013..that seems a lot more recent than I thought..
Man, I remember my dad took me to go see this when I was a child and it’s one of those fond memories I hold so dearly to my heart.
Love this video! Love the background music too total throwback to the early 00’s!
This takes me back. I still remember my sister having an Aaron Carter cd that had the preview for the jimmy neutron song. Which not going to lie, was a banger from my perspective. Bro I didn’t think I would be nostalgic for this time. But I was around 10 during this time.
As others have commented I can’t believe it was only 3 seasons, it was so memorable in such a short amount of time then
