I used to be a pretty good starter in my teens and twenties. I couldn't throw over 90mph (topped at 90.1,) but I had 6 pitches I could throw at 1 slot for strikes, and I knew how to tunnel. I based my windup on James Shields. I had: 1. 90 mph 4 seam fastball 2. 86 mph 2 seam (sweeper/sinker) 3. 78 mph Slider that broke right to left (RHP) 4. 70 mph Circle Change 5. 72 mph Straight Change 6. 68-74 mph Curveball. So I got chances, even when other big guys were hitting 92-95. I had great control and command, AND a personal catcher that always caught me. I got most of my strikeouts on my straight change, after setting up a straight 4 seam. I love pitching. I'm 42 now. I'd probably expire if I tried to throw a ball over 80.
As a Giants fan watching Hicks all year, I believe the staff is still trying to build his arm stamina while having control for later in the year. He was hitting 96+ earlier in the year but the control still wasn’t the best and he hadn’t made it past 7 innings yet. Or there maybe something else that we don’t know about yet.
FYI the reason why Hick's velocity was down so much was because he threw up earlier in the day and was sick, so velo wasn't as good. still managed to get thru 5 innings somehow.
Hey...Can’t we just go ahead and call corbin burns “Dorn”, as his name is in incredibly close proximity to corbin bernsen who played Roger dorn in the major league films? I mean...who doesn’t love a good major league reference?
Was just saying to myself a few days ago that Darvish is having a sneaky gud season, hiding among all of these monster pitchers. The heat will bring then down to Earth a bit as the dongs rise...
Watching the replay several times, I think the umpire got fooled. Don't think the batter had a swing that should have been called a a strike. Still an insane breaking pitch.
Yu “Fine Wine” Darvish, dude only gets better with age
I remember in your Yu Darvish interview. He said he had 11 pitches 😳 UNREAL!
11 pitches?!! Wow, thanks for letting me know 👍
yeah and they change all the time
It was like 16 when he first came over.
Ninja, you're always a fount of knowledge! Which is why I watch this channel! That and my love for pitching of course.
Thanks!
Darvish is amazing. Thank you Pitching Ninja! Id like to buy the tshirt Yu wore in the interview with you.
Not sure we have any left, but when we do another Padres one I'll let folks know!
@@PitchingNinjaVideos thank you!
Hicks said he was throwing up before the game and said that was the reason for his velocity being down 👍🏻
I love that we got the Sears/Singer Industrial Revolution matchup yesterday 😂. We need a Carnegie and a Rockefeller to start pitching too, lol
Good call!
Underrated comment.
i love yu pitching ninja
Is Arraez workin on his own Soto Shuffle?

Can anyone tell me the song used for Colin Rea? It sounds great, and I’d love to listen to the whole song
“Baby Talks Dirty” (Knack) was a banger, kids! 😅🤷♂️
"Music Education" LOL!🤣😂
I’m here for the Alex manoah comeback

Jordan Hicks' velo being down as a starter makes me wonder what other starters can rear back and throw 100+ if they were relieving
If a “change up” falls off the table with arm side break, isn’t that more of a screwball?
The Dodgers shoulda NEVER let the Whirling Dervish go!! 😖🤦♂️
I got to watch Yu Darvish destroy us yesterday
I heard hicks was throwing up before the game and didn't eat much afterwards before the start, something to do with his diabetes presumably
Yep--apparently that was it and explains the velo issue. Show great toughness fighting through that.
Jordan Hicks was sick.
Like throwing up sick

Ninja, is the budget so tight that we can't get Will a mic?
Hicks is definitely reforming that fastball. Watch and see.
What about "Return of the Knack" (Return of the Mack - Mark Morrison)
You guys should have Trevor Bauer on!

Alec Manoa is looking a bit slimmer this year...did he go on a weight loss plan during the off-season?
Was just saying to myself a few days ago that Darvish is having a sneaky gud season, hiding among all of these monster pitchers. The heat will bring then down to Earth a bit as the dongs rise...
Pun intended?
Ninja you forgot blake trienen
Geez. I did! Not sure how I missed putting him in there since I did a reel on him on IG. Sorry about that!
"He faced Bryce Elder who was NOT the man yesterday" 😂
Yu Darvish found out the doing second season of diamond of the ace
If the blue jays get manoah back how solid is that starting rotation 👀
This Pitch ABSOLUTELY should've been in the Top 5 Pitches of the Day today. I'm sorry Blake. I owe you. x.com/PitchingNinja/status/1792338053924897015
Thanks for adding that pitch. Holy Cow what a breaking pitch! No human batter could hit that.
Watching the replay several times, I think the umpire got fooled. Don't think the batter had a swing that should have been called a a strike. Still an insane breaking pitch.
Jordan Hicks was very sick, literally, he was battling an illness. But he still took the ball.
Ah! That makes more sense. I was watching that game but flipping around. Good for him for battling!
A don't smashing rampage... like vd?
Love how you buildup a pitcher. He gave up 50 runs but had this painted 78 mph fastball😂.
Also jordan hicks was sick thats why he was pulled early.
Those helmets the catchers are wearing make it look like they have hamburger buns on the top of their heads
JP "Daddy Roebuck" Sears
