I've been watching your Elden Ring "things you missed" videos since I discovered you at the start of May. I've been using them once I've fully explored an area to see if I missed anything. Great to see a fellow Brit making Elden Ring videos too. :)
Also, since you can defeat the enemies in there (grand cloister) with two comet shots, I equipped the golden scarab and they give 1,894 per kill. There’s 11 in the room so 20,834 overall. Just teleport back to the site of grace and you can upgrade in about 3-4 runs depending on your level! I leveled up quite a bit in there lol
I might be in the minority here but my favorite boss was Malenia. I was probably over leveled for most boss fights because I just spent so much time exploring every single thing and going back after your videos dropped, so that meant I could get through a lot of fights easier than I probably should have been able to. Malenia though made me really work to learn her moves and how to dodge the waterfowl dance, the scarlet rot bomb, etc. I must have died 30-40 times over several nights! I didn’t use rune arcs because she was just murdering me and I was burning through them. When I got a good strategy down I finally slapped one on, used my mimic and beat her - I stood up and yelled in my house at midnight in sheer excitement. One of my favorite moments of the game.
For the life of me, I just could not get the dodge timing on her first dance right; I always go to early. So after 50 or 60 tries I finally said, screw it; equipped a Great Shield, put on physical damage reducing talismans and HP increasing talismans, and tanked my way through the dance. Still took me 15 or 20 times to finally beat her, but I did it.
I beated her 2 times with the help of my friend because he always wanted to beat some bosse with me but on ng+3 i went alone without any summons and after switching up my build a bit i beat her with bloodhound fang and casting swarm of flies in between every scarlet bloom

Anyone who's struggling with the dragonkin soldier, there's another tower with a button on it near the boss that you can step on and it'll raise a few platforms directly around the boss. Makes fighting it with melee so much easier.
I lost my 80+ HR save and am struggling to find the desire to start over. This video got me back in though as I was heading to Lake of Rot when it all went wrong and want to see that quest through. Thanks!

Took me two tries to kill the big boss at the end of the video. It's been what two years since the game came out. So thanks to the internet I knew he was coming. Also, I love to level up and farm runes, so I may have been overlevel.
ah yes, Lake of Rot... Hidetaka Miyazaki's finest creation ever, the only thing I didn't missed was Astel and other than that, I completely ignore everything I saw and didn't saw that was hidden. Miyazaki is an absolute madlad by making a hellish place like this haha. also, my favourite boss was and still is Maliketh. even that dog spanked me badly for 81x, I still like him, he's still my favourite boss in the entire game.
If you roll in the rot you'll continue to take rot buildup even when you're back on dry land. If you let the rot bar fill to the top via rolling then standing on land you'll take half damage from scarlet rot and be able to run through it all without taking losing much health
Alecto, BlackKnife Ringleader was my favorite fight. Just the way that she moves, so elegant and precise. Extremely high damage output too. Plus, Tiche is a badass spirit summon, so the reward was awesome.
Tiche is great 👍 and I kept thinking Tiche would be best to get me through the Radagon/Elden Beast fight but it turned out not to be so. Instead I conquered with my Mimic.
It might be easier to fight the Dragonkin Solider after raising the 4 platforms that surround it. These platforms were raised right before the cheesy music haha.
you can also activate the platforms before attacking the boss with another one of the obelisk+button platforms just to the left of where the dragonkin soldier is
Im new to the dark souls franchise in general and my very first boss fight(other than the scion) was the duelist in murkwater catacombs, and he was so SOO freaking hard but it made me so happy when I finally beat him and now I've gotten fairly good at the game and can't wait to try other dark souls.
My first time fighting Astel made me feel about as good about my choice of game as my first time through Blighttown when I first played DS1. Actually, scratch that. Blighttown angered me almost to tears (I had zero idea how to actually play a Souls game at the time), and I still had more fun with that than Astel. By now I’m proficient enough in Souls games to do Orphan of Kos with only two heals, and Astel still kicks my ass for hours every time I fight him.

Flame of the Redmanes is great against Kindred of Rot, I think you can stagger them in one hit, and they're also weak to fire (20% extra damage with fire).
This area is a lot harder & more stressful than this video makes it look 🙂↕️ Beast-repellent torch really helped keep basilisks at bay and I used Crepus’s Vial talisman which muffles footsteps so they didn’t jump out at me from the lake at all. I also used bloodhound step ash of war, but make sure you have lots of FP flasks if you’re using this to race through the Lake of Rot! Thanks Dom for the video, good luck everyone ❤
Lol got one right off the bat. I never knew about the button and the raising platforms. I've always just booked it across, chugging red flasks all the way
"Now we're going to just run around like a headless chicken grabbing all the items" Ah yes. I perfected this technique when I decided to do a DS1 great scythe run. Weaponless catacombs was... interesting.
A tip for this area. Let your scarlet rot build up then roll and get out of the lake Wait until it is fully filled due to rolling on the lake and you'll be afflicted with a weaker scarlet rot status. I did this for Ranni quest yesterday made exploring a lot easier
there is a good cheese method for the dragon kin. There is a stone plate form near him and if you climb up in you can get to the top of a “room” with a lot of basalisks
For the mellee users, the strategy to defeat that dragonkin is to go in and out, in and out, repeatedly, And don't lock on. And god forbid, his rush attack after the roar that deals ton of damage and push you out of the platform, and the following body slam when he comes back, they're nearly unavoidable.
Gonna cheat a lil and say both sets of Leyndell bosses were my favourite, it felt like playing a mini boss rush. If I had to pick one boss though unrelated, it would be dragon lord placidusax. Took a couple of attempts but it was so satisfying finally taking him down.
RE: Astal fight If you teleport out- the coffin is available to ride down again if you're underlevelled. (favourite boss is the Ancestor Spirit bosses)
Just starting to watch but this is likely to be the video where I've missed the most. As this place was horrible and I ran through it as fast as I could.
Man I was watching your video and I was so scared of her before even fighting her from your description. When I reached her I killed him/her I killed in first try
I had a very similar experience as your first astel fights, but with mohg, lord of blood! Got there incredibly underleveled (~lv 60), and obviously stood no chance at first. But I made sure to get in a few attempts every time I played, and every time I came back more prepared than before. I tried simply leveling up, different spirit summons, spells, consumables, a new staff, I got the purifing crystal tear. After about a week and almost 30 total attempts, I just barely managed to beat him with the skin of my teeth. Such an amazing boss, one of the best experiences I've ever had in a game If anyone's curious, I ended up beating him at level 78, with a crystal staff +10, a metiorite staff in my offhand, rock sling as my main damage source, and a lhuthel the headless +3
He's not the good a boss, you just gave yourself an extra challenge fighting and endgame boss before even one of your minor skills hit their respective level cap. I'm glad you had such an amazing experience, but any boss can wield a similar experience when you're under leveled lol
@@that_deadeyegamer7920 I have fought him more times after that, at appropriate levels, and he's still my favourite boss by far. I didn't love the boss because I fought him underleveled, I fought him underleveld because I loved the boss
Astel is an amazing fight! Beat him first try no more flasks and 10% of my health left. Only boss so far that had me shaking after the fight. I'd have to say while I love Astel I belive Renala is my favorite fight. Her 2nd phase arena reminds me of Ram The Vacuous Spider.
Thanks Dom, your channel has helped me leaps and bounds over ANY other Elden Ring content vids! The direct explanations and most importantly, the HUMOR, are so entertaining and enjoyable which adds up to THE BEST tutorials I've ever experienced! And I've played this a LOT! 300+ hours! The Ancestral Follower is there because there were once Rotten Ancestral Followers in the lake. They were removed, but he's still there as a nod to their connection with it.
Another brilliant guide, thank you very much. I must say though, because you missed all those items in the Windmill Village, you have lost the label of a abid compretionist.
No way would I have been able to deal with the Scarlett rot if it wasn’t for this video. Earlier encounters I’ve had with the stuff have been a nightmare but now I know
Bruh I'm so glad I never spent time exploring the whole area. I really debated about it but without that incantation I wouldn't have been able to. I only had berries to eat and hp potions to chug
The eternal cities were built in top of the ruins of a much ancient civilization where the ancient followers lived. There is one in nokron and the ruins in the lake of rot are the ones left when nokstella so the follower there is probably the last survivor of the city
If you didn't kill the scarab for the somber stone 6 when you run down the ladder after killing that gravity guy for his sword you run down the rocks and it will be right there so you can still get it if you want. for anyone trying to clear this thing with just bollusis like i did went in with about 20 i think. i would not suggest it. ran out towards the ending. would just swap to flame cleanse me if you have that option.
Took a wrong turn in the underground area with the ants and ended up on a cliff looking out over the lake of rot. I believe that is the cliff you couldn't access. There wasn't anything up there.
For me, lake of rot is the most forgiving "swamp area" of the souls series. Just because you can run and jump, which in other swamps you cannot. As a faith build with Flame, cleanse me! it was like a stroll in the park
By far is Margit then margot. He is the one boss that has so much nuance since he is not really a “bad” guy. Just needed to be put down with the whole “order”

I honestly loved the area, thematically and in terms of gameplay. Very oppressive and anxiety inducing
It wouldn't be a Miyasaki game without an area that kills your character while simply walking through it.
If I ever meet this Miyasaki. Ima punch him.
Don't see the problem, there's plenty of space on the platforms where the dragonkin spawns.
Another thing that makes this area less painful is using the beast repellant torch from the merchant shack in Caelid. The basilisks will stay back.
^ This. It made getting through here a little less of a ballache.
Absolutly! this torch works great, just a minority of buggers will attack anyway.

Wow! I missed so much in this area lol
is that the Penny Swill theme song? lol. I used to love that show, my first exposure to TV boobs as a kid. haha
No Dom... YOU'RE a great bro!
RE: Astal fight
If you teleport out- the coffin is available to ride down again if you're underlevelled.
(favourite boss is the Ancestor Spirit bosses)
My favorite boss fight is Mohg Lord of Blood. Such a cool weapon and attacks
for the dragonkin boss. just hit him with bow 6-7 times, and he will aggro
Thanks, this helped me!
Just starting to watch but this is likely to be the video where I've missed the most. As this place was horrible and I ran through it as fast as I could.
Astel. My early nemesis. Followed by the godskin duo, the fire giant, Malenia, Maleketh, etc, etc😎
Man I was watching your video and I was so scared of her before even fighting her from your description. When I reached her I killed him/her I killed in first try
My favorite boss fight had to be the mimic tear, it was so fun.
Such an amazing boss, one of the best experiences I've ever had in a game
If anyone's curious, I ended up beating him at level 78, with a crystal staff +10, a metiorite staff in my offhand, rock sling as my main damage source, and a lhuthel the headless +3
I can't wait till you get to the consecrated snowfield area. That place is just a cluster of a mess lol especially the first part.
300+ hours! Thank you so much!
Defeating Astel by hitting him with his own wing...... Absolutely legendary!
Fun Fact: Astels weapon reacts differently in the pressance of Astel.
The Ancestral Follower is there because there were once Rotten Ancestral Followers in the lake. They were removed, but he's still there as a nod to their connection with it.
Hello :)
Edit: Godfrey AKA Houra Loux is the best boss in the game hands down
Another brilliant guide, thank you very much.
There is one in nokron and the ruins in the lake of rot are the ones left when nokstella so the follower there is probably the last survivor of the city
actually really good helpful and thourough walk through . good shit mate
Beated in 7th try with mimic summon with paladin build. Really fun boss to fight
Best guide I've ever seen
I usually just raise the platforms at the dragonkin and destroy him there. Has a stake of Marika there also.
Astel is final boss worthy for certain.
I thought there WAS a site of grace befoe Astel in the cave you warp to in the Coffin? - Could be wrong it's been a while since i've been there!
Astel is easily in my top 3 bosses, for sure. It just sucks that they used it again later on in the game, making it feel less special of a boss fight.
True but that version later in the game is pretty hidden away and has a new attack
15:00 100% my thought there 🤣🤣
