I have always wondered why in murder movies or scary movies NO ONE EVER TURNS THE DANG LIGHTS ON? They all prefer to run into a dark room and yell, "Who is it?", or "What is it?", instead of turning on the light (by the door) so they could all see, lol.

That's called a "plot device" . Something that moves the plot along or facilitates the action. It's the explanation of why a certain action is taking place, silly as some of them may seem. Example: a dark and stormy night that washes out the only road, is the plot device that makes it possible for the characters to have to stay in a near by haunted mansion.

Example: a dark and stormy night that washes out the only road, is the plot device that makes it possible for the characters to have to stay in a near by haunted mansion. Or in this case, a dark room that can hide someone or a sinister act and increases the creepy factor. If you can just flip on the light , well what's the fun in that? 😄

Just wondering, does anyone know if Sam McDaniel was related to Hattie McDaniel?
After reading about Hattie McDaniel in Wikipedia, (the first Black Woman to win an Oscar for “Gone with the Wind”), it turns out that Sam, who played Harmony was her older brother. They were two very gifted actors for their time.

And the writer stayed on topic, to get as much mileage from the veiled lynching innuendo as he could: "Have you ever been hung before?" and saying, " Well, you've got a nice neck for it!"
This film was 1943 and the last officially recognized lynching of a black person, 14 y/o Emmitt Till, was in 1955. Other suspected lynchings since then have been passed off as 'suicides'. Lynching wasn't even made a federal crime until March of last year. And even then, 4 members of Congress tried to keep it as just a state's issue. Easy to imagine the demographic that would still appreciate this attempt at humor today.

A comedy this not. Not any good, either. Don’t waste your time.

This is so totally racist. I realize it's another era, but the movie is just disgusting.

there are plenty of really good films of that era, but this one has a crude film- noir sophomore dialog & storyline and looks to be a Grade C studio product shot on very low budget.

I suppose this counted as a comedy, to American audiences; after all so did the Lucy show!👎

This was corny even for 1943. Written by Morey Amsterdam.

I can't believe over 1700 people have viewed at least some of this movie without anyone giving it a thumbs down. That's all over now. Phew, the movie stinks as bad as the house and cow shit.
