Gents stop and think about your theory on the oil flow through the cooler. The hot water on any engine goes in the top and cold out the bottom, this is done based on the fact that heat risers not sicks. But having said all that what you've done will have minimal impact. Then there's the combined heat mass of the engine and trans, your trying to dissipate as much heat as possible. When a cooler is stacked Infront of another cooler like yours, being the radiator, your taking heat out of the trans and putting it back into the engine via the radiator. Trivial you may say but it all has an impact especially when it comes high heat generating performance gear. Love your work, keep it coming 👍
Hahaha, after seeing that repair (really honouring the VN/VP Commodore factory AT cooler line clamping); yes, you were right not to have another skid row attempt. Nice consideration for others there mate!
I’ve got a 08 6L WM Caprice, 04 5.7L WL Stato and 04 5.7L VZ SS ute. The Utes the project at the moment and I can’t thank you enough for the chilled out motivation to tinker away. Carnage is friggen awesome.
Scotty, the way I wired my iC-7 up in my VQ was from the AMP, using narrow male spade connector, simply push them into the appropriate female port on the factory loom connector. There's heaps of room behind the dash and no f#cking around with crimping or solder.
Scott the first time I ever came across your channel was when you FIRST bought the Turbo Taxi, yeah, not that long ago, but I've been hooked on your vids ever since.
great work guys, just heads up on the radiator cooling I have a steel plate with a down turned edge (think it's 30mm lip and factory one is plastic. where intercooler straps are undercar) to create negative pressure zone just behind the radiator. it helped heaps with my turbo v6 (20-30c drop), Hope this helps.
Haven't seen a Hassan... CHOP! for a while, and then BAM out the blue we get two, plus some "great" comedic acting at the end. Awesome progress on this beast, love it.
I tried to open this on TH-cam. Had to try quite a few times. I tried Open, uh, open, sarsaparilla? Open, Saskatchewan? Open, septuagenarian? Open, uh, saddle-soap? Open, Sesame? Then it finally opened and I could watch some Carnage.
Love this channel. ❤ My favourites in the past were the Trolvo, Turbo Taxi, and Dads Ute. Now waiting for the next ute to get going. The Lexcen is a real sleeper.
Carnage is always awesome and a real treat every week. Melbourne weather is the stuff of legend. This wasn't wednesday was it? 28 degrees and raining where i am, good times!!!
If you look above the fues box on the right inside the car you will see two white plugs and that's the harness for the dash cluster you can get to the wires you need from there instead of trying to squeeze into that small area
Hey Scotty … i commented early on this build that due to the drivers side valve cover positioning you would have to use the willwood master cylinder with the booster delete… how does the pedal & brakes overall feel?
Scotty mate to do the wiring for the dash, the dash plug, maybe you could have got under the dash and made the dash plug stick out more, by removing some of the tabs which hold the wiring loom to the firewall etc, so you could have made the connections better, like you wanted, still i know how frustrating it is when you have no room to do any work on a car, especially wiring stuff. Well done Scotty, keep it up mate.🦘🦘✌✌👌👌👍👍
You’d know a hell of a lot more than me Scotty but just looking at that trans cooler you put in and those mounting bars look like they block a third of the cooler? Thanks for the content Scotty. Cheers Pat
Yeah, I'm not super happy about the bars blocking the airflow from the from but the air rushing past and and radiator fins will still serve their purpose just fine. At least it's a bigger cooler now.
Get the boys from shockworks to sort your suspension Scotty. All the power in the work is no good with clapped out suspension. Great vid as usual. Keep it safe
Hey scotty great car and video as usual Got to ask why you put the hot in from the bottom and drawer to the top for cooling This is counter to everything that I’ve been trained. I was always taught hot through the top like a radiator and then drawer to the bottom, so the heat load (heat soak) heat rises dissipates vertically through the heat exchanger better and drawing from the coolest point This is particularly prevalent with refrigeration equipment All the diesel powered vehicles I’ve ever worked on when I used oil coolers All the compressors be it centrifugal or reciprocating there oil coolers work top to bottom Gas turbine oil coolers work top to bottom And all the radiators I’ve ever worked on were top to bottom The gearbox coolers I’ve done and replaced in factory oem style were all top to bottom To reduce heat soak why would transmission oil cooler be different to this? I’m just asking because there’s always a new way to learn and you have actual hands on knowledge Thanks Always enjoy your videos and your content Cheers Mike
Great question. So the theory is that plumbing the inlet to to the bottom keep the trans cooler full for start up because the transmission pump prevents drain back. Plumbing inlet to the top can see the trans drain back into the transmission when parked for extended periods.
scotch locks 🤦♂️ I’ve been doing electrical work for 15 years plus and sorry but have to say, and I know ppl have there own opinion, but when ever I see them used, it makes me cry, especially for a headunit install
With the number of these vehicles in scrap yards getting a busted instrument cluster that you could cut up for the factory connectors to make pigtails should have been easier than messing around in the dash.
Should be the other way around like your radiator pipes... so the cooler oil comes out the bottom of cooler to return to trans and hotter oil feeding in top @STREETMACHINETV
I've been a bit on the fence on whether to use some ProFlow parts on my L67 VT. After seeing and hearing your experiences with the brand, I reckon when the funds are available, I'll be getting one of their alloy radiators and possibly a bigger transmission cooler then the factory one
Great content as usual Scotty! I can't help but feel sorry for Mrs Scotty who has to was your oil stained clothing everyweek. She must really curse at you!
Nothing better on a Friday morning than watching a carnage video before you go into work.
Mate, this video was released here in southwestern Pennsylvania in the US at around 3:30 PM on Thursday. Are you Down Unda?
Oh, and if so, we're about to get 8" of snow tomorrow and around 10 degrees Ferenheit.
Yeah mate
try watching it at work on friday morning

Nothing goes you ready for a weekend of tinkering in the Shed, than a bit of Carnage on a Friday ❤❤
That flat bar you are using to mount it is cutting off a lot of airflow over that trans cooler Scotty man.

It just wouldn't be Carnage without SCOTchlocks now would it! 😉
Have a look at that! Not bad! Ten minutes and seven seconds in! Not bad, good size!
When I saw you trying to strip back those wires, I thought to myself I don't envy him that job. That looks like a real wrist twister there.
Great vids bro. Do miss the budget comps just fun. Cheers

scotch locks 🤦♂️ I’ve been doing electrical work for 15 years plus and sorry but have to say, and I know ppl have there own opinion, but when ever I see them used, it makes me cry, especially for a headunit install
I know, but unfortunately we were on a time crunch and proper splice crimps weren't going to work
The scotch-locks will probably fail during a meet...on Friday
With the number of these vehicles in scrap yards getting a busted instrument cluster that you could cut up for the factory connectors to make pigtails should have been easier than messing around in the dash.
Different dyno different day.
Where do you buy those open barrel splices in Australia
Could you have soldered the wire to a nail or pin and jammed it into the old socket instead of joining the wires?
So how is the Ute going. 🧐
Just wondering why it didn't go in front of the big pieces of flat bar?
Edit: nevermind... intercooler. 😋
Yeah, it just gets too close. If I had more time I would have thinned down the flat bar. Maybe I'll do that next time I'm in the front end
Quick question. Why do you put the hose to the lower & return from the top?
Help bleed air and use gravity force the fluid up through the cooler so it gets maximum cooling.
Should be the other way around like your radiator pipes... so the cooler oil comes out the bottom of cooler to return to trans and hotter oil feeding in top
