Interesting thought.. I think after the very first year of Pontiac, especially having sold as much as they’ve sold, Oakland was pretty much on the outs.. I’m happy to dig this episode. Great choices.
Your know, if someone made a modern version of this car. That was made a lot like this, I think I'd buy one. With a engine like a Honda k20. With a 6speed. With 20x8" rims . It would need to look a lot the same with modern materials. It would probably have a plastic dash. Seat belts. I'd rather it have 1980 tech than having a computer inside. Built simple. EFI is ok. But building a computer on wheels, with a big computer screen controlling everything, like Tesla, it's just not me. I'd love to have a modern old car. Just add curtain air bags all over. With a steering wheel air bag, and shock absorber bumpers with modern disc brakes , the engine making 150-180 HP+possibly a boosted version making 280, on pump gas. It be awesome, I can't be the only person !
Honestly, I don’t know I should have checked that next time I go there if that car is still there I’ll make a short about that. That’s an interesting question and I totally agree. It was a lot of car for the money… cars are over priced now
I know some people say cars from this era all look the same. That is true to some extent, but those people don’t notice the fine details and craftsmanship that differentiated these cars and made each stand out in its own right.
What a sharp little car! A lot of detail for a "lower priced" car. Wow, Dodge Caravan stow-n-go seats! LOL I am really beginning to appreciate the utter simplicity of these older cars. I wonder why GM decided to tank all the companion brands, but keep Pontiac instead of Oakland? My guess is something to do with price point, maybe Oakland bumping into Buick sales? WYR: 1) Pontiac 2) Pontiac
An country aquaintance had a '26 4-dr sedan in immaculate shape, and more or less this colour scheme (green over black) stored in a barn in the '80's that he'd scored for peanuts... never got to hear it run, so a "What It's Like" experience. The wood-spoke wheels were natural finish, and IRC the headlight buckets were all nickle... it did have its original brown mohair upholstery, so, yeah, the big-rib cordouroy on this one is kinda cheezy. What can y' do? The original material is unobtanium! Still, that thing was noticably higher quality than a contempory Ford or Chevy.😊
Hi Jay! Thanks for showing the first Pontiac! That has to be the cleanest 1920's car I've ever seen! Looks like it is brand new! It's no wonder, that within a few years they quit making Oaklands and started manufacturing Pontiacs only. There is just something I like about the old Two Door Sedans! Most had those folding seats to make it easier for the rear passengers to enter/exit the automobile. WYR#1 1926 Pontiac! #2 Studebaker!
For WYR, it’s the Pontiac both scenarios. I like how you focused on that very detailed hood mascot, and the pinstripes, at the end. Those seats were pretty interesting, too. It looks like the rear seats are probably more comfortable than the front ones, which is a switch if true.
Happy you dig this one =) I just shot some more content today can’t wait.. i’m working on the engine episode now for tomorrow then is going to be 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Barritz
I had always heard that Pontiac was created for the Great Depression as a cheaper model for Oakland Thanks for providing the entire GM lineup and what price points they represented. It seemed like the audio disappeared after a while. Scott Joplin WROTE "The Maple Leaf Rag" but the recording artist of that version was MARVIN HAMLISCH! "CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR" AS MONICA MIGHT SAY.
That’s a truly beautiful example. Thank god this specimen didn’t come with the ugly “disk wheels” that GM thought were the wave of the future, which ruin the appearance of any car so equipped.
Sweet ride ! If you run across any mid 20s to mid 30s Sedan Deliveries in nice shape please post a video. They pretty plain jane vehicles but I think they are neat.
I loved the use of nickel plating on classic cars. Warmer and softer to the eyes, nickel is more subtle than chrome. My grandfather had over 200 Fords, but only one GM car because in 1926, while at a speakeasy with my grandmother, on a cold-bitter night the steering box froze on his Chevrolet rendering the car only able to go forward or backwards… they had to hitch a ride home at 4 am with a milk truck. My grandfather never forgave GM.
That Pontiac looks like a pretty nice car, especially for the year it was made. If you haven't done so already, PLEASE do a video on that 36 Ford right behind the Pontiac! Other than the 32, it is my favorite year for 1930s Fords. WYR= Pontiac and Moon, only because my grandfather had one (he always bought weird brand cars). Minor point here, but all those copper tubes for vacuum, fuel and oil pressure look as if they were bent by hand, which probably was the case back then, rather than the machine bent tubing on modern cars. As always, I learned a few things today, so thank you, Jay!
Oh, and one more thing: That radiator cap looks like it is crossthreaded in the radiator. Poor Chief Pontiac looks like he is looking quizzically at you.
I definitely want to do more wagons this year. I just haven’t found any recently. I really want to cover some sedan deliveries. I absolutely love those. The wagon that I want to feature the most is a hardtop 1959 Rambler cross country. The ambassador version would be the best, but I’ve never seen one in person. .. Jay, as always I enjoyed your video. WYR Pontiac in both scenarios. Even though operating the squeegee , I mean windshield wiper manually while trying to drive must have been chore. Stear, shift wipe the windshield with 2 hands , something had to give momentary . I didn't notice a water temp or fuel gage. Did I miss that ? I wonder if the pin striping was aftermarket as it had to be done by hand . Nice simple car though.
Great catch on the gasoline gauge as well as coolant temperature. I’m not sure if the gasoline gauge was back at the gas tank some cars had that on the tank the meter would be where the coolant temperature would be. This car didn’t have those two gauges… from what I saw Great choices happy you dig the channel

WYR Pontiac both. It's a nice unpretentious car. Dunno if you've ever seen an experienced pinstriper at work, but the good ones can move pretty fast, and would need to doing production work.
