    🇯🇲 In America the damp-proof is called vapor-barrier.
    As an added barrier but mandatory for structures built on soil of high water-table, pitch/asphalt is painted on the outside perimeter of the foundation from footing up.
    The damp-proof is then paste on followed by the backfill/soil.
    This would be particularly useful in Ghana as per heavy rainfall during rainy seasons.

    Question: you talked about the “damp proof membrane “ but I don’t see a price in your budget. How much was it per square feet? Thank you in advance for your answer.

    Impressive ,impressive and impressive indeed !
    Loved the general presentation and especially and most importantly, the cost per square meter.
    Do you have cost per square meter for the super structure or cost per square meter from foundation to roof ?
    Thank you.

    Very good information. I wanted to know the best way to apply the damp proof membrane. Some builders spread it on the entire foundation whereas others simply apply it along the foundation walls. Is it okay to just lay the membrane along the foundation walls where the blocks are going to be laid? Thank you

    • @kingstal90
      @kingstal90  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can also get rising damp through the floor, especially around the interface between the floor and the wall. But agreed that it is more common on walls. I personally would not take the risk. At the same time it also depends on where your building is located. Is it dry/rocky land or land that typically has alot of water?

    • @nanao8536
      @nanao8536 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kingstal90 My contractor applied damp proof membrane along the foundation walls. He told me we don’t need it on the entire foundation because the land is very rock and it’s not a land with water. Is he right??

    Hi Guys, I am learning a lot of information from your vlog.
    If one buys a piece of land with the foundation done with no damp proof membrane seen, can the membrane be laid on the concrete and the concrete re done please? Also is the membrane cut as a whole continous sheet according to the size it will cover or is it in strips that are laid next to each other or overlap? Thanks

    We are having a 3 building self contain house, in which we want to convert it into apartment of 7 bedroom, 3down 2 up. One of the problem we're having now is the foundation of 3bedroom self contain is already constructed 3yrs. So I'm seeking for advice about how we can convert it.

      Hi I thought I should help you out with the little Building and Construction knowledge I have.
      The way footings and slabs are done in Ghana I’ll not advice you building extra weight on the 3 bedroom foundation. Best to demolish and start all afresh for safety. If there are pillars at the corners and few in the internal joints then it may have a bit of integrity to hold the second slab of the structure. Best to ask a structure engineer to check the building to confirm. Hope my 2cents help a bit
