    I served in the Army doing this in the field for 17 years as a REME Vehicle Mechanic on everything from Land Rovers all the way up to biggest Trucks, Tanks, Armour, Generators and Plant. Bench pressing those Gearboxes into place takes strength, I’m by no means the smallest of lads, strength and size always being the key and I’ve done a few jobs like this in my time. Total respect to Kevin his work ethic and quality of job is to be admired. Keep it up mate

    This is where your previous behind the scenes video ended. This Honda is a right faff. They didn't have to made this complicated. Great work Kevin

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s correct. This is what I mean comparing working on European cars ie VAG’s over Far East cars. Too many little brackets and over engineered unnecessary clips and retainers

    • @soilmanted
      @soilmanted 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WMCS The last VAG I worked on was ridiculously over-complicated. To get the filter for cabin air out of most Far East cars you push in the sides of the glove box, pull out the box, unclip a cover, and pull out the filter. For VW New Beetle, I had to push out parts of the dashboard under the windshield, to get access to about 18 threaded fasters, then remove the bracket for the filter from its place under the dash, then remove the filter from the bracket. Some of the threaded fasteners were very close to the windshield. Whatever kind of head they had, maybe it was a Torx, there was little room to access it and turn it. Presence of windshield directly above the fastener heads reduced turning radius of the wrench handle. I wouldn't be surprised if the VW service literature suggested removing the windshield in order to access the cabin filter. If that wasn't bad enough, the air duct under the filter was lined - on the _inside_ - with urethane foam. Why anyone would design an air duct to have insulation on the inside surface where the hot or cold air contacts it, is beyond my understanding. And on an 18-year old car - it had become friable. As soon as I turned on the fan after replacing the old, blocked air filter with a good filter - the fan start blowing little pieces of urethane foam into the cabin.

    Man is a contortionist. At 33:45 he's got the engine supported by the rolling hydraulic jack, he slides under the transaxle and supports it with his arms and hands - and while doing that he uses his right leg to push on the handle of the rolling jack in order to lift the saddle of the rolling jack and thus lift the engine up into a more comfortable position for pulling the transaxle out and down with his arms and hands onto his stomach, chest, arms, and hands. I suppose that working the jack himself is probably safer than waylaying a passer-by to do it.

    This channel popped up on my recommended videos a few days ago and can't stop watching for some reason! Some graft. One thing I've noticed a lot in your videos is the state of discs on some of the cars your working on. You should offer a disc and pad change service as well given the fact your in about them any way. But then where does it stop, it'll be drive shafts, CV joints, the lot.

    Looking for some advice mine went into garage yesterday to have a replacement uprated clutch put in all be it second had but from same year and model, the mechanic said the kit wasn't right as the box wouldn't go back on but after checking part numbers across the years there's no variation apart from an update to the pressure plate but all are interchangeable, I have also spoke to the rep for the company that make the clutch and they are stumped too. The garage said he couldn't get the box on the last inch or so, have you experienced anything like that with these 2.2 civic as I'm now without a working car and stranded 30 miles from home

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never used a second hand part.
      But on the 2.2 as far as I’m aware from experience there’s only one EXEDY Kit
      And only 1 LUK kit. With a Valeo DMF.
      Only thing I can think of the second hand part was wrong.

    80percent would go to a shop for a clutch replacement, 19percent would do it by themselfes in their garage or with help from a friend, and only 1percent would dare to proceed doing this in his yard. But when you've done it multiple times i suppose its little bit different then

    Well worth investing in the Milwaukee M12 Stubby!!!! That high-torque is overkill and is slowing you down taking off wheel arch-liners, undertrays, and even starter bolts etc. Its far lighter and turns faster. Just a thought! The high torque is brilliant for Axle nuts and wheel bolts as and when you need it, but you will find yourself working much faster when you arent swigning that big thing about with its slow rpm!

    Well I lived through every grunt and groan well done and I have a little question if you answer them and that is, I have the same engine and gearbox and when I pull away it really judders sometimes I even stall.I think by process of elimination it is probably an unevenly worn clutch plate but is there a way of reasonably discovering this? A slight aside was the gearbox already full of oil? as you just put a touch in the top as I’m on the spectrum details bother me thanks

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s most likely the pressure plate getting weak. Not squeezing the clutch against the flywheel enough.
      The oil was just to show where it goes rather than me showing the filling up.

    I would like to buy a used Honda Civic 2.2 diesel, but I’ve read that due to the heavy torque they’ll probably need a clutch + DMF replacement around 100K miles or so.
    And that the Honda parts alone could cost about £2000, or maybe 75% of that going aftermarket instead.
    Is that accurate - and are they reliable apart from that?

    • @gyulaugocsai5463

      If the clutch is just sliding but no other symptoms of DMF damage, I just let changed the complete clutch. I had bearibg sounds as well.
