Rush Hour Trains/Planes at: Luton Airport Parkway, MML, 23/05/19

  • A fantastic and very busy evening spent at Luton Airport Parkway on the Midland Mainline where we see no end of services from East Midlands Trains and Thameslink aswell as flights from Ryanair, EasyJet, Wizzair and a few others of which I'm not overly familiar with. Along with a few private jets just to mix things up.
    Because of the nature of the station there isn't actually all that much to really tell about it. When it was opened in 1999 it was purely done so for the benefit of the airport, a free shuttle bus service was operated at the time by National Car Parks linking the station to the airport. This service was eventually handed over to First Capital Connect who added a charge to every passenger using the bus, you can walk from the station to the airport but it was far easier to get the bus, there are plans to bring to shuttle bus back into free running again now that Govia are running the Thameslink programme again but there isn't a set date as to when this will happen.
    The physical building hasn't changed much at all, it was built with 4 platforms in mind as that was the layout of the MML and obviously still is to this day, the only difference being that the platforms have been lengthened in 2008 to accommodate 12 car trains, this was the first station on the Thameslink network to do this. There was a new entrance built on the station linking to Kimpton Road which is on the other side of the station to make ease of access all the more better, this was done in 2013.
    The newest feature to this station is the current building of a new a link going from the airport to the train station. This is hopefully going to be finished in 3 years time and will be a monorail ferrying passengers to the airport at a quicker time that it is currently done via the bus. I would assume that this will be a free service but only time will tell. And I would also hazard a guess that this will also be operated by Thameslink.
    For those of you looking out for the aircraft in this film they are terribly frequent but I did try and capture all of the departing planes when I could, and because I didn't do my homework I didn't have the faintest idea what any of them were so I apologise for completely killing the plane spotting hobby XD
    My next station is going to be Potters Bar but this wont be done until June 7th as I am away for a week.

    For your amusement, watching the wildlife in the bushes can be more interesting than the trains, especially when they are nearly all 222's or 700's. You could always run a sweepstake on the number of splattered flies on the front! :-)

    The point You made about the pantographs accumulating dirt off the catenary is/was a big issue on the GEML, they had the oldest wires (now replaced) on the national rail network with the worst dirt to exist, you could see it on the front of class 379s.

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also noticed when I've been filming on the GEML that there is a lot of dust being kicked up by the trains when they are passing through an area at speed

    According to what I've learned :
    Ryan Air = 737
    Easy jet and wizz air = A320 family (A320, A321, A319 or A318)
    Can't tell which model be exact but I can say which family of planes they belong as budget airlines only operate one type of plane. (Turning the mic forward towards the true aviation enthusiasts)

    Just struck me... why do those Thameslink 700s have couplers when they are (as far as I know) never coupled together because a 24-car train would surely be too long for any station?

    • @HyperVenomProduction
      @HyperVenomProduction 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yindee8191 00 presumably to couple to locos incase one failed and needs to be hauled off the line.

    • @marcdavey
      @marcdavey 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couplers are mainly used in the depot and as Supreme said also used for when a train breaks down.

    • @yindee372

      Supreme Leader Oh yeah... don’t know why I didn’t think of that. Thanks!

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They also had couplings installed on them for when they were being delivered by rail into the UK. GBRF would be bringing the stock down the line but you would see barrier wagons in-between the 700's and the 66 as they weren't compatible

      The HST is a stunning train and it will be a sad day when they eventually get retired for much newer trains, the class 700 is an EMU so the power is distrusted equally throughout the train which is why it can pull away so well
