Right before watching this, my husband and I cleaned drywall dust from our master bathroom remodel. I love the new drywall but I hate the mess! Tomorrow we start priming and painting! Great idea opening up the stairs! It really does make the rooms flow together.
Oh my goodness so you totally understand the drywall dust headache. I still feel like it’s covering my whole house. After this project is done, everything will be getting a deep clean!
Kelsey you and your kids did a great job!!! I know your kids enjoyed helping! The stair case is looking so good. Can’t wait to see the finished product! I know it’s going to look amazing without a doubt! Looking forward to your next video! Hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend! 😊
Thank you! I’m so excited to add some wood and metal accents to the stairs. I’m really hoping it turns the stairs into a design element in the center of the home!
Just discovered your channel and have been binge watching your videos. You are incredible. You have motivated me and encouraged me tackle some home improvements in my home and given me tons of ideas😊
Thanks for showing the curved drywall corner pieces, and that you managed to do them! I’ve not known anything about how to replace them after tear out.
Hi Kelsey.....what a job and what a difference!!!! So much nicer....more open ....brighter. Love it. I subscribed.... anxious to see it complete. Thanks for sharing.
Love these videos, this will help me with the same project. Had a question around what tool were you using for creating the hole to plug and what do you use to create the plug itself? When I watched the handrail install you had a similar one but smaller version. Something I can buy for my drill? In short, how you are making the hole and the plug. Thank you in advance! Going to follow your install step by step, was feeling intimidated but this helps 100%
Great job! It looks fantastic. Did you have someone teach you all your skills or learned on your own? What sources? I am impressed and would like to be able to do diy in my home.
Love this, great job! I never understood why builders bring the walls all the way down the stairs. It's like a huge tunnel in the home. My niece bought a house similar to yours and the first thing I wanted to do was take down the stairway walls. 😆 Except it's not my house! Looking forward to the next part.
Hi, new subscriber here. You have done an incredible job. I know that you have probably answered this before but where did you get all of your building experience from? So inspiring. Thank you very much for sharing your work with us. 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈
I want to know the same thing!! I'm a new subscriber too and I can't believe the things she's done! I've watched the kitchen ones as far as the cabinets all the way to the ceiling then the tile. I'm impressed!!
Your work is so amazing!!! Were you a professional carpenter/ general contractor in a previous life😁😁😁. Thank you so much for sharing. My confidence is building the more I view your videos. 👍🏾
Thank you! My great grandfather built houses and my grandfather was an engineer so maybe it’s in the genes? 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ Love hearing my videos help others to go for their ideas!
I love this and it give me the motivation to do mine! Just out of curiosity how tall is your stair skirt? I’m not sure how tall they are or which board to use-any help would be greatly appreciated!
How brave are you to tackle all of this on your own.. This is way more than just diy, it's construction work, electricity, wood work, some serious painting, I mean you're on fire girl! I'm wondering why do you always say "we" when it's you and you only who's doing everything...?! 😊 Say it proudly ♥
When you are doing this type of project how much do you plan ahead (do you put together a list of steps) or do you “wing it” and figure it out as you go?
A little bit of both. Because I am renovating my entire house and need to keep budget in mind, I always do a rough plan and research cost of materials. For example, with this project I calculated costs of new stair rail and balusters and stair treads, etc. Then I usually make a list in my phone of the steps of the project. For example, demo pony wall, rebuild knee wall, add newel posts, rails, etc I don’t always plan ahead on specific details like stain/paint colors, size of trim, stuff like that. I know I can make those design decisions when the project starts taking shape a little more. Hope this helps!
Thank you… the planning ahead is my issue… I get a big idea in my head and dive right in which usually makes the project that much harder and longer. 🤦🏼♀️
I find it interesting what is considered normal in different places where people live. The walls here in Texas are much more textured in general than the walls where I used to live in Louisiana.
@@KelseyRomitoDIY when we moved into our current house a couple of years ago. I ripped carpet off the two walls in my son's room. And ripped out the moldy drywall. The studs were uneven and had to get help to screw another piece of wood to the stud to make the new drywall flat and not leave a gap in the corner.
This woman is a bad ass doing it all herself!!! Way to go!!!
Great job. The kids were funny I love how he had his sunglasses and gloves on. He was ret-ta-go!!
🤣🤣🤣
My husband’s job is in safety so he was like make sure they have all the proper equipment!
Lol love how you did this without mask, laying down nothing, just went raw nice!!
Omgeeee your video was the most helpful out of all the videos I have watched! This is amazing...I can't wait to see the end results
Glad it was helpful!
Your so talented I'm loving how your breaking this down into smaller steps. It makes it so much more approachable
Thank you! I couldn’t go any faster if I wanted to! It’s a tedious process.

I'm always blown away by the end of the video. Big fan of your channel.
Thank you friend!
Wow, just wow and you’re not even done. You inspire me to keep doing projects around the house.
Love to hear this! We can do anything we have enough patience to figure out!
Wow! Such a difference in the look of your home! I love seeing the kids help with the demo😀. Their faces when they took down the wall was priceless!
I know! I was laughing so hard while editing. They couldn’t believe they were allowed to make such a mess.
Looks better already
. Kids loved helping. 😍
Thanks! They loved demo. I’ll probably recruit them again for the carpet demo.
Great job kids!! The demolition team
Kelsey what an amazing job! This is going to be so pretty when it is done and add so much character. You really can do almost anything!
Thank you! I’m so excited to add some wood and metal accents to the stairs. I’m really hoping it turns the stairs into a design element in the center of the home!
Yes, removing the side wall to stairs does look so much better.
Love this! It is going to look fantastic. I am about to start redoing our stairs so this is great timing for me!
Awesome! I love when that happens- someone I follow starts a project right before me so I can learn from all their mistakes! 🤣🤣

Welcome! I love hearing that my videos help others to get started on their projects!
Great job! Excited for next week!
So glad I found this video! I'm actually at this demo/reinforcement stage and you confirmed I was on the right track!
Happy to be the Guinea pig! I was figuring it out as I went along. 🤷🏼♀️
You have great vision. It really opens up the area!
Thank you!

It was definitely a learning experience but totally worth it I think!

Oh my gosh, amazing! It opens up so much of the main floor. Great job!
I know! I was amazed at how different it immediately felt!
My kids love to do this too. My son loves helping me on projects when he is able.
Wow! It really does open up the space! Looking forward to the next video!
I knew it would but I still just sat there and was amazed at how open it was!
@@KelseyRomitoDIY it looks great! I can’t wait see the railing you’re going to install.
You always amaze me! I love your projects. This is going to be gorgeous! We're proud of you! ❤
Thank you so much! I’m excited to start building it all back now!
What an impact. Been slacking on your videos friend!! Gotta go back & hit part 1 now of course. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
yay i’m glad you’re opening up the space…i thought the same when i first saw your staircase ❤️
Haha! It was literally my first thought when I walked in the front door!

Hi, I think you’re talking about spade bits. I bought the plugs at Lowe’s or Amazon.
So excited for the follow-up episodes! 👍❤😁

Thank you!

I am mostly self taught. TH-cam is a great resource.
You are so fabulous, that you can do those things., and you do a beautiful job. I love it being so open.
Thank you!
For drywall you can use a humid sponge. There’s no need to sand it ☺️
I’ve never tried this but it might be better!

Haha! I redesign other people’s houses in my head all the time! And I’ll probably start actually doing it once I finish my house.
Looking really good
You and kids did a fantastic job 🤗 new subbie can’t wait to see how it turned out ☺️

My favorite part for sure!

Does this require a permit?
Not where I live
Great job!!!
Thank you!
looks great.
Nice work
Looking good ❤️👍🏼😉🇨🇦
Take off the carpet and install wooden steps🥰
When u lean pictures or mirrors how do u keep them from sliding
You can use wire and a hook to hold things in place.
What were the miter cut angles you used?
This project was so long ago I can’t remember. Sorry!
How did you cut those studs lower than the top of the drywall?
They are not really lower than the drywall. I used a skill saw and came from each side.
@@KelseyRomitoDIY Oh! Ok…thank you. You are VERY talented!
I am so grateful my walls aren’t textured. To me that’s right up there with popcorn ceilings.
I find it interesting what is considered normal in different places where people live. The walls here in Texas are much more textured in general than the walls where I used to live in Louisiana.
Just learning g a lot🤪
Me too! 🤣🤣
You could’ve added faux beams there instead of drywall. Amazing job.
I’ve got a makeover coming up that I’m going to use beams. I’m so excited!
@@KelseyRomitoDIY I can’t wait lol. I really think you should have your own contracting company.

Welcome! Glad you’re here!
How much would it cost to get someone to do this for me? I dont have the skills like u😭
💕💕💕💕
I don't like doing drywall Esther
It’s the worst!
