as a female professional painter/ deck finisher, i give you my best tip. use a folded box to kneel on. also, a flat piece for a workstation to slide everything together as you move in a sitting position. you'll save those knees. you are so welcome. love ya!
Don't laugh. I fix and paint one step at a time. Steps I can bend over. The flat deck. I can't even get on knees anymore. Wish I could find a kid - like I was in HS- college. I worked my arse off. All the kids r doing vid games. Professional paints all looked meth - up
Instead of using extra rocks, you might get away with plaster (I think you call it mud, but same shit). That also lets you paint right up to the chimney, which means the wall will perfectly contour with it. Pro tip: If you go this route, use a wet sponge for the final finish to smooth the transition between wall and stone.
That's exactly what I was going to suggest! It's a very traditional/rustic transition from stone to wall as well, which would suit both the property and Hannah's style. The gaps are big enough it would need some reinforcing, but it's absolutely a project she could tackle.
@@elizabethjames552 Honestly, it wouldn't need much more than some lath. That's how the vast majority of our homes here in the UK were built before plasterboard/drywall became ubiquitous. Lath is basically twig-sized dowels latticed or wired together in a thin sheet, the plaster bonds and dries between all the gaps to create a hard finish that is tougher than most prefabbed plasterboard sheets.
As a sort of temporary fix, you could put up a curtain rod and hide the gaps with floor to ceiling curtains sort of bunched in the gaps? which would look really cute with the mirror as well...
Next time you need to sand floors, rent a 4 disc sander from a tool supply company. It could do that whole room in a couple hours and can be hooked up to a shop vac to keep the dust down (no need to put up plastic). It's also the most gentle type of floor sander, so it removes minimal material.
You were right, the lighter floor looks much better especially considering the colour of your bed frame!👌 BTW, received my lupine ring weeks ago and haven't taken it off since! It's perfect and I've received many compliments. As I work on my own home, it is becoming tarnished and worn around the edges like yours and I love it! A lovely reminder of the inspiration I've received from you in completing my own projects! Thank you Hannah! 🤗
When you love Hannah's content but you also know you have to sand a floor soon 🥲 Thank you so much for the inspiration and motivation as always though! Sending much love ❤
Hannah, you could make a pattern of the rocks and cut a board to fit based on the profile of said rocks. It will be easier than adding more rocks to the chimney.
I love the floor light-stained. Very modern but rustic looking. And that stone chimney is a gem. My husband is a stone mason, bricklayer, block and concrete dude. 57 and still laying block and working hard.
there has literally never been another youtuber that i religiously checked videos for on their post day lol like i would neverrr in my life miss a hannah video
Hey Hannah ! I've been following you for a while and I gotta say that I LOVE that you show us that sometimes things don't go as planned 😂! I've been renovating my father's house and I often think about you. Keep up the good work, your bedroom will be stunning !
Happy Birthday Molly🎂🎊🎉, love that you and your sister are able to spend time together. After watching this video I get really tired, I can’t imagine how you feel actually doing the manual labor ❤️❤️
Your videos are never long enough!!!! There is something so satisfying watching someone do little Reno projects around the home. They're my favourite thing to watch on TH-cam. Make them longer girl! 😂
don't add rocks. get a piece of 3/4 "pine, floor to ceiling length and scribe/trace contours of the rocks in chimney. cut out with jig saw, file/sand as needed for final fit. you can do it! happy b'day molly
The bed frame is a cool brown. The oil varnish changed the floor from a cool beige to a warm brown. A little whitish stain with a truly clear, non-yellow varnish will keep your floors light and cool.
I just wanted to take a moment to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. You actually inspire me to do projects around my house myself. And you help me with the confidence in myself because I see the confidence that you have. I am a mental health therapist and I at times need that distraction that the projects I do give me. Keep up the good work and I love how your house is turning out.
Love your willingness to keep moving forward even when you hit setbacks, and tackling new challenges at the same time. Things don't need to be done 'in order', they just need to be done :)
I love when I get to leave Isabel's video and come straight to yours. She's redoing her whole house and it looks amazing. LoL@Molly. Goes to a string cheese chawing fiasco and renovations broke out. 🤣😅😂
I’m curious how many of your videos end with you sitting on the floor either sanding, staining, polishing, or placing the wood. You’re such a damn badass inspiration
I would love for you to keep a log book of your cottage renovating expenses for a future video! Like I especially wanna see the costs of your plumbing you and your family did and then all the lumber expenses for your beautiful projects! I just really want to prepare myself as much as possible for when I take over my moms cabin (needs A LOT of work) and your videos are the absolute best and so incredibly easily for me to learn from
It might be easier to scribe (trace) the rocks onto a piece of wood and cut out the contour of the chimney to close the gap! Then if you still have spots that aren't perfect you could full it with rocks. Would likely have a cleaner result! Love your videos and love that you are tackling all these projects yourself ♡ so fun!!!
I haven't scrolled through the other comments to see if anyone's already told you this, but that access door in your ceiling in front of the stone chimney must be kept accessible and operable. There is most likely a clean out door in the stone chimney above that point and at some time in the future a chimney sweeper will need to get in there.
I actually screamed last video when you put that yellowish colour (it looked kinda yellowish on camera) on the wood floor because I absolutely LOVED the original colour of the wood. It looked so pretty!
you're videos are getting me through college right now and i just want to say thank you 😭 your lifestyle and projects are my goal for the future so i just gotta push through classes now to get to where you are LOL
Stone chimney, Use cardboard(taped to wall) and a compass to transfer the pattern of the stone to the cardboard, cut out cardboard check fit and transfer to panel. Cut out leaving extra on opposite edge for final fitting.
Did you consider cutting a center strip out of that wall to expose the rock but not the gaps? And close it up with plexi to avoid drafts? I like to watch how your projects grow organically, that hutch is looking real nice!
Vehicle issues, the times that try a single woman's soul. Glad you found or have a good mechanic and a wonderful sister. Happy belated Birthday Molly! Stay safe and God bless.
Magnifico job as always on your house and happy birthday to Molly!🥳🎈🎂 And oh gosh I was thinking it would look really cool if you replace that light fixture in your bedroom with like an antique chandelier.... They come in all different sizes... Anyhooo.... Love love love your videos as always ❤️ you're very inspirational for me to get my happy ass up and do more to my house lol!
@2:08 she’s describing how the wood colors don’t look good together (the oil based varnish floor) compared with the unfinished floor and bed footboard. The varnish brought out a WARM base color tone (orangey) and the other colors are a COOL base color tone. She’s absolutely correct, the 2 different base tones don’t look good together, they clash. The cool ashy tones is what she’s going for based on the footboard and unfinished floor. They look really nice 👍.
Amazing work on the bedroom, can't wait to see what it will look like! You made the right choice with the floor finish even tho you had to sand again. Happy birthday to Molly!
A suggestion for the rock chimney. If you take cardboard and make a template you can then use acrylic or 1/4" plywood to fill in the gap. You can use a jigsaw on either one just take it slow. Acrylic comes in many colors.
I’m installing a water softener for our home and I kept thinking of you Hannah. Thank you for being an inspiration for women who want to be handy around the house. 😊
Ur a machine Hannah. Love the way u work. Organic and creative and although u think it through u just get in and do it. A woman after my own heart. So satisfying to spend ur days doing things where the progress can be seen and enjoyed. All while making videos - no mean feat. ❤
Here's a really good cheap idea for your knees while doing floor work. Get the knee pads from the garden center from the dollar store, then get some furniture sliders from the dollar store then you can hot glue them to the bottom of the knee pad and slide around as you're doing work. I did this for me and my dad while we were working on the floors and it was the best thing ever and now he uses that knee pad for just about everything. And he claims that his ab muscles have a really developed lol.
Sendin out a happy birthday to you lil sister and your bed frame is beautiful and hey dont get so hard on yourself we all make mistakes and i hope that your stream stays in its banks

Happy birthday Molly. Hannaford have nothing but time to work on the chimney wall, get some cardboard and make a scribe pattern to layout on a piece of trim wood then finish it off by caulking it to finish any little gaps. Last people took easy way out cause they didn't have patience and drive which you seem to have. Now all you need is baseboards to finish the bedroom off. Is the truck a bad fuel pump?
I would scribe the wood that is to go up by the stones of the fireplace chimney. No gaps! And that box that was built around the chimney is I believe referred to as a “chase.”
I think the lighter color floor is fantastic worth the extra effort. A note for the stones decision, it's interesting that sound travels where there is space for it to move through. My dad is a carpenter and he uses a thick foam to kneel on. He’s almost 60 and spent many years not taking care of his knees.
Yes, that’s the way I do my decks. I also do all my gardening seated with my legs cross because of a bad back.
I find I’m less tired this way too!
only hannah would go from finishing floors to being in a cop car to trying to fix her truck by herself in one video
