    Why can Samsung not improve heart rate measurements in different scenarios and catch up with Apple and Huawei? It's been two years since they achieved medical accuracy. My bike rides with Huawei GT3 gives spot on heart rate results with Polar H10 as long as you have a tight fit on the wrist. How about sleep tracking on Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 being still a gimmick feature ? Oh come on Samsung, you can do better. Battery life, don't mention !

      I'm very disappointed, too. I want to switch from my iPhone and AW Ultra to S23 Ultra with GW 6C but without a good accuracy i don't want to switch. No idea why Samsung puts so little energy and especially accuracy into their watches, although they are an important key element for many. I don't know any manufacturer except Samsung that regularly degrades its products as well. In this case, the battery runtime. In the case of S-class phones, worse displays, less ram, thicker bezels, etc. Which decision maker thinks up something like that? This way, I only continue to lose market share...

    • @adambenk0
      @adambenk0 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ever since I had Gear s3 for testing I knew that AW even back then were so much more accurate when it comes to heart rate tracking. I really like Samsung phones but they forced me this year to switch to iPhone. Hopefully iPhone 15 pro is going to be good.

    I was about to buy a galaxy watch. Just in time, I found this guy. I decided to buy Huawei GT3. I tried Apple Watch SE 2022 along with GT3. Compared it while running, even switched wrists. Got almost accurate results. Could not make me much happier. The battery is awesome. Goes almost for a week. I use it during sleep. I found my falling asleep time, and woke up time the most accurate and also how many times I woke up in the middle of the night are also good. It looks good too. This guy saved me from gimmicky galaxy watch.

    Quantified Scientist - outstanding and thorough reviews. Express delivery, too! Looking forward to the sleep tracking! Samsung claims increased focus on the sleep tracking, and hopefully they are improving the algorithm, not just the display of the readings on the watch, although it doesn't look promising based on your current initial test.

    • @TheQuantifiedScientist
      @TheQuantifiedScientist  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Indeed, we will have to see. Data presentation and providing context is also important, so it is good they do that, but improved sleep stage tracking is needed if they are going to base their advise on it 🙂

    • @GadgetyMV
      @GadgetyMV ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheQuantifiedScientist Thank you for the reply! I find Samsung's advice very generic, apart from explaining how their sleep scores are calculated, and what the normal ranges are. For example, I'm informed that my deep sleep is important for physical recovery, got a "good job" comment because it was sufficient, but no actionable items of what I could to increase it, or improve upon it. I guess Samsung is not alone in this?
      Another improvement point, I find it odd that if I go to sleep in the early evening, wake up before midnight, and then go to sleep again right after midnight, the sleep time prior to midnight goes to the previous day. It's not added to this night's sleep because I woke up. Again, perhaps this is a tradition and Samsung is not alone in this, focusing on calendar days, not on the nights, which frequently cross two calendar days.
      Thank you again Rob, for a great job! Hopefully your tests and analyses will make the manufacturers improve.

    I believe Samsung were giving a Velcro strap as a early buy option. I change all my watches to Velcro straps for better HR readings. Maybe retest later with a Velcro and see what happens, I'm would be interested. Not a bad watch overall, I ordered the Watch 6 non classic. I don't believe a sports watch should have a rotating bezel. Great video, thanks again.

    • @simdencard
      @simdencard ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. I have the Watch 5 pro and love the fact it hasn't got the bezel as this would then be prone to breaking when doing sports and especially when it's under my boxing gloves.
      I also use velcro straps for better accuracy also.
      I can't downgrade to watch 6 due to the battery life as I have lte and use my watch and leave the phone behind when training or sometimes for the whole day when at work and the battery easily last the full day no stress.

    Why are samsungs smart watched getting worse and worse at hearth rate detection?

  • @oczyszerokootwarte8400
    @oczyszerokootwarte8400 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hi Rob!
    I have a few comments.
    1. Small muscles like biceps don't really matter if you want to measure your heart rate. Because they generally do not cause too much difference, they are not too burdensome for the body. Much better would be, for example, squats.
    2. Regarding the differences between these watches. This may be due to their construction. I'm just wondering if this difference may not also be due to the difference between the two hands. You could check this by swapping the watches around, or using two of the same on both wrists.
    3. I'm also wondering if overall results wouldn't be better if you wore these watches from the bottom of your wrist, if you know what I mean.
    anyway good job!
    Greetings from Poland.

    I've been waiting for this review, so thank you.
    I've been wanting to get a galaxy watch for two years now but it's its accuracy that stops me from doing so. Heart (as in regular heart track, if it finds problems) and sleep track is what I seek and I wonder if this can be improved with software upgrade. I'm really into getting the Classic 6. Is there a chance you can let us know how it does in a regular heart situation, when you just wear it without any sports activity? I wonder why Samsung doesn't do anything to improve its sensors to be as good, if not better than the Apple watches.
    Anyway, there are rumors of a Galaxy 6 pro, and I have 'till November to get the Classic, if I do get it. So yet again, I'll have to wait and see and hopefully you will make another review by then.
    Cheers.

      Unfortunately software isn't the saving grace. This is the 6th generation and it's been lagging behind for years. But it's more a case similar to Fitbit where it's good, but it just falls short to apple aggressively improving their fitness and hr and sleep tracking. Apple simply cared more about investing in the fitness features and they had the funds to do it. Even Desfit and Dc Rainmaker acknowledge apple is the gold standard of HR watches. Essentially get a Samsung if you want slightly better battery or have a Samsung, otherwise I'd get an apple with iPhone and pixel watch or Garmin for Android (depending on activity). Samsung isn't going to fix this in hardware. They've had YEARS to do it. They're content to just be mid in fitness

    • @sebastian05000
      @sebastian05000 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@seanlinehan1136 Software and better algo can improve a lot so your point about not being the saving grace is wrong at best since the hardware can be capable but is limited by the software side.

    • @HenPapirman
      @HenPapirman ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @seanlinehan1136 I'm all in with Samsung phones and would like to get the watch. The only tracking I'm concerned about is the HR and sleep tracking. (Walking count as well) but with the HR - as in the regular standard non exercise HR, I wonder how it does with that. I know 2 stories where Apple watches saved people's lives.. I guess I'll wait for next year.

    @The Quantified Scientist I have one question, when comparing heart rate counts, have you considered the fact that you use different hands and thus different sizes and shapes of blood vessels based on which the heart rate is extrapolated. To be more pragmatic you would have to test them on the same hand, or at least test that the assumption that you are making is valid.

    Thank you for your hard work and excellent reviews. After seeing the results, I've decided to cancel my pre-order for the galaxy watch 6 classic. Samsung does not seem to care much for the accuracy of their health and fitness measurements and almost appear to be getting worse over time. That is such a shame since they have some of the best looking watches around for Android users.

    Thanks for the review, always appreciate how detailed they are. It would be good to include running for heart rate tracking, although expect it to be similar to the outdoor cycling. Also, I know you typically include GPS performance and I think many would be interested to know if you tested this and what was the outcome.

    If heartrate is not a 95%+ accurate measure. Doesn't that mean values like HRV, VO2max, stress, body battery, etc are completely off? Meaning the watch will give you completely false info most of the time. Seems really bad for a 500$+ watch....

    crazy that the "better" model, Galaxy Watch 6 Classic performs worse than Galaxy Watch 6. But if you could do the tests with bigger Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, that would help to get a more comprehensive picture. But I feel like the extra inertia from the heavy rotating bezels might be causing problems with registering changes consistently.
    Looking forward to the results of comparison with Sleep Lab and Galaxy Watch 6/6 Classic.

Watch worn on right or left hand...it would be interesting to see what combination of these variables could improve the results.

    Hi Rob, your review is the deciding factor on which smartwatch I'll purchase. Currently using a Samsung S21 but considering the inaccurate heart rate and sleep tracking on GW4, 5 and 6, I think I'm gonna completely switch to the IOS side and get myself an Apple watch SE instead. Still looking forward to your follow-up reviews on this model though, hopefully software updates might change the narrative. Thanks so much for all that you do!

    I love the content, something i noticed and can be seen in the pan over @1:28. The devices that perform the best in all of your tests seem to use Bands that keep the watch/device snug against the wrist without over applying pressure. I wonder how watches like the samsung ones would work in fabric bands. I personally hate the bands shown for the samsung watches since they slide around on my wrist, especially at night.

    • @LesterDarioDeLaCruz

      I would also love to know how a setting like tracking heart rate every 10mins when still compares for sleep tracking vs continuous. I noticed this additional option comming from the 5, and it seems like it could cause the watch to miss those small wake ups/ state changes.

    Wow, thanks a lot for this early review, what a pleasant surprise! I am utterly disappointed with the performance... I am thinking of buying a smart watch for a few years now, I think back when Galaxy Watch 4 came out. However, saving money for other things and generally waiting for new tech, I did not end up buying any. When I heard that Watch 6 is gonna have the physical rotating bezel back, I kept waiting along with hopes of finally having better heart rate tracking. However, as new ones get released, they only get more expensive and measure things less and less accurately? I don't get it... So seems like it might be another year until Watch 7 comes out and a miracle happens :D Why would anyone invest more money into a newer thing that's actually a downgrade?
    Either way, thanks again for this review and hoping to see another video after it's properly released with at least some firmware update and perhaps some questions answered about inconsistency between these two versions, hopefully you will have more data :)

    Honestly, the galaxy watch 6 classic is a beautiful watch, I mainly use it as a watch (obviously lol) and for notifications. All of those other functions are great to have and I'm sure they will get better with software updates but I think if you're really serious about fitness tracking and sleep monitoring, you should get products that are built for those functions.
