Harvesting, canning, freezing, new baby...AND putting out a new video...your superpowers are showing! Riggs is already getting big.....rest when you can Mama...you're amazing! ☺
Omg 20 minutes isn’t long enough, I need at least an hour of watching you and your family gardening and preserving. Y’all are awesome and so inspiring. We learn so much from yall♥️ please keep them coming
OMG, it was the chicken costume for me 😂😂😂😂 Thank you for the motivation. I was making a list of things I want to can. I definitely was to can soup and broth. I saved this video to watch again later🥰🥰
Right! Even if i could afford to buy one, i would need a new electrical circuit and electric furnace AND solar panels. Freeze dryers are probably an additional $200 a month in electricity too. Its a such a LUXURY to have one and afford it.
You guys are truly inspiring! I love how your family works together as a team to preserve the harvest! My husband and I are empty nesters and I working towards growing and preserving more of our produce. I’m learning so much from your channel. Please keep the videos coming! You have a precious family! Blessings to you!
It's wonderful to see all your hard work in the garden being preserved in various ways. So many more harvests and preserving to come! Cam with the onion goggles, chicken boy and shot of you holding tiny Riggs so cute. Truly a family affair!
ok one of your kids in the chicken costume is absolutely the cutest thing :) love all the work you do and how you explain everything. thanks for sharing!! all the best from Berlin
I love seeing how you preserve the harvest and use things. And oh that sweet baby! Seeing you hold the little one just warmed my heart! It reminded me of how little my girls used to be.
Thank you for sharing your homesteading journey with us. Your passion, knowledge, and genuine enthusiasm for preserving your garden harvest are truly infectious. Your videos are not only informative but also enjoyable to watch. I look forward to seeing more of your homesteading adventures in the future!
I have started doing this for garlic, and figured I would pass it on to you! So, firstly, take any glass jar with a lid, and throw a bunch of garlic cloves in (you want the cloves separated), leaving about half the jar empty. Then shake it really hard! The skins will come off quickly and easily. Then just cut the root end off. Throw all of those garlic cloves in a food processor, process it, then freeze that in ice cube trays. Literally takes just a few hours to freeze up, and they pop right out to store in a larger container. Super handy for quick and easy garlic, and it’s cut my garlic chopping time down significantly. I do this once a month now, and it is such a time saver.
What a great idea. I think I’m going to give that a try. I’m going to freeze them in the smallest Souper Cube trays (same brand as the large Souper Cube Becky used to make ice for blanching veggies in this video.).
The amount of dedication you have to feed your family healthy homegrown, home cooked food is just absolutely amazing! I do a lot of prepping, cooking and dishwashing and I’m on my feet for hours on end. I find that my anti-fatigue mat is such a huge blessing to my feet and back. I have a short one at the bottom of the stove and a long one at the sink and counter where I do my prep. I chose one that’s easy to clean.
Leafy greens should maintain its nutrition if dried. I like to dry mine, whole leaf, seal them in old chip bags and throw them into soups or noodles when I want some. Love seeing how you preserve your garden!
I couldn’t hold back my laughter when your guys had their goggles on and when the chicken costume came out! I suffer from depression so thank you for the gift of laughter!, not to mention the rich quality filled content, thank you for being you!
I enjoyed this video so much, Becki! So glad I found your channel! Very inspirational! I want a freeze drier too! So many things can be preserved with it! You have an amazing garden!😍❤
It's always so wonderful to hear from you 😁 I loved watching ...well, everything but I noticed how nice it was to have Cam there right along side you ❤️ Riggs' soft tufts of hair are adorable. Sometimes you forget what it's like to see a newborn baby Have a fantastic week
I make refried beans right in the jar as I open it. Same with chickpeas and hummus. My 3 kids practically live off of bean and cheese burritos, and hummus with flatbread
I love seeing the kids helping out. You raised some nice children 😊 it reminds me of when my mom would slowly teach me how to cook as she did it. Best memories i have. And it's always good to get the kids out and about in nature and just doing stuff in general other than purely school work and technology. Keep's them active and their brains learning useful life skills. 💖
Hey I love you shows I enjoy what you're doing and it's the right thing as I was an executive chef for 45 years I watch you in your canning and your struggle with time you really need some small hand tools like slicers dicers maybe a mandolin ours will be saved
I was watching this show where you filled a large stock pot with water in the sink and then carried the heavy pot to the cooktop. It would have been a good idea to have installed one of those pot fillers at the cooktop to save you from carrying heavy pots.
I am just becoming a stay at home mom! I have less than a quarter acre of land, but I am trying to utilize it the best that I can. Small steps! Thanks for all of your inspiration!
Educational, inspiring, comedic (the goggles and Mr. Chicken), and endearing. Your channel is a gem and is a welcome respite from all the craziness going on. Garlic scapes now replace chives in our household. Try them in an omelette or pickle them. Peace and blessings 🙏! 13:23
Another way to keep the nut room high in that soup would be to freeze dry the greens and add them as you’re reheating the soup. This also saves you having to brave the garden in the dead of winter if there’s a storm and you want something quick and warm.
Loved seeing you again!!! It’s always a blessing!! I learn so much from you every video!! So thank you!! Oh my goodness!!! The chicken 🐓 custom is the best !!! You keep such a straight face too !!! Thank you again and have a blessed amazing day!!! Until next time !!!
I remember last year when the celery was dehydrated. I was shocked at how small it got! It actually gave me the idea to purchase some freeze dried celery and also mushrooms - a great and easy-storing addition to soups and stews
With that beef meat I do stew with polenta ( cooked them the way they are jut cut the skin so they don't curl),salt, pepper, thime, rosemary, sear on both sides, add onion, carrots, peppers ( never measure like my grandma).I know you are busy with the baby and everything else but I am looking forward to see your video. God bless you and your beautiful family.
I always look forward to your videos and lately, am thrilled to see glimpses of that precious new baby. I can’t get over how big he’s gotten! My family also loves the same sausage kale soup recipe and I’ve put up a couple batches this summer too. I know the food preservation must get done, but I sincerely hope you are getting enough rest, Becky. Your family is such an inspiration to me.
That is super interesting about the blueberries not needing to be pricked! I bet the variety does play a role. Some varieties do leave a picking scar where the stem attaches and that may be enough to let the moisture out when freeze drying! I also loved the goggles while chopping the green onions....so great 😆
Thank you so much for this video! With your busy life, it is so appreciated. I love seeing how your garden and preserving is coming and I always learn something. 😊
I just got that freeze fresh book. Very excited to see you using it. It makes me more confident in the recipes in the book. I need to try canning soup more. You amaze me at how much you accomplish.
I love how when I'm watching one video after another I can see you just keep adding and adding to that one freezer and it looks like it has infinite space 😂
I always enjoy your videos. Thank you! As I've said before, I love that this is a family affair with the kids and hubby helping. Thanks for the chuckle with the chicken costume. 😂🐔
I saw somewhere someone said they had to poke each blueberry with a toothpick or the center doesn’t dry fully.. for this reason they never freeze dry blueberries. I could be wrong. I love your videos. Thank you!
Yes! It was actually Jessica that I had heard that from too! I don't know why hers didn't freeze dry when she didn't poke holes, but mine did just fine.
I just had to say my tango celery did fantastic. Thanks for showing us what you grow. Awesome video. So glad Cam is home to help you. The children helping was great too.
@@TheSeasonalHomestead my first time ever growing celery. I have to give you credit. Your an inspiration to this Grandmother. I wish I was gardening 40 years ago.
do you happen to have a list of all the food prep dishes you use? I like the blue basket/tote used for the onions, squash, and celery, and the enormous mixing bowl used for the ice bath. a list of all this stuff somewhere on your blog would be nice, if you can find the time. thanks for sharing your journey with us!
I really love your videos! Not only is it fun keeping up with your sweet family, but you really inspire me to keep moving towards our ultimate goal of being able to produce and preserve a years worth of food each year. I've gardened long enough to know quite a bit, but not long enough to be very good at putting it all in practice, so I really feel frustrated sometimes. It shouldn't be so hard to get things to grow well, especially when I'm doing all the things. But I figure it's just the natural learning curve. Sometimes I'm so successful with a particular crop, I can't keep up with the harvest, but never successful as a whole. Thanks for the inspiration to keep going!
That is very normal! It took me years to get most things to grow well. Even so, we always have a few failures. Gardening is something that no one is perfect at. Sounds like you are doing great! Appreciate you being here!
I've had my freeze drier for about three years now and have processed many different things. I also love making powders from onions , garlic, celery and herbs. I don't use traditional canning anymore and all my jars are full of freeze dried food. I stil freeze some things and always vacuum sealed.
Garlic scape powder is AWESOME! my third year doing it (I just have a regular dehydrator, but it works) I use the powder a lot- it's a different taste to regular garlic powder. Super yum!
Wonderful video! love the harvesting and process of preserving your food. Again congratulations on the newest family, Baby Riggs. A busy household~Thank you for sharing~~!
Thank you for sharing! Great video, I'm saving it in both canning and misc. food because you had so much information. God bless y'all and keep growing.

Keeping a straight face with the chicken costume was a feat, truly underrated channel, this video like all of yours is brilliant
Thanks!!

The goggles on the boys during the green onion chop were top tier comedy to me
Thank you for showing that massive bowl to hold the cold water bath.

I think that only works with older garlic
Love that idea! I recently saw a friend do this on Instagram as well. I definitely need to try it out! Thanks for the tip :)

Mama, you need a Fawcett over the stove!!
I know those pots are heavy!
May God Bless you in all your works! Thanks for sharing!!!
Freeze drying and also making scape butter and freezing are my favorite ways to use scapes.
LOL @ the random chicken hanging out behind you 😂😂
Leafy greens should maintain its nutrition if dried. I like to dry mine, whole leaf, seal them in old chip bags and throw them into soups or noodles when I want some. Love seeing how you preserve your garden!
Especially in a soup... if any of the nutrients are cooked out, they just end up in the broth, no?
@@jgood005 heat destroys the vitamins. Great heat and pressure just breaks up the molecule

How you kept a straight face during the chicken moment killed me!
I love how you put your carrots in the refrigerator in bags and I am wondering how long is that they will stay good in there?
Wondering the same, as storebought carrots in bags start to rot after a week or so...
Great Information Thank you!! I have been Reading up on freeze drying 💚Happy Preserving
