There's some sniper that reacts to sniping videogames that is like this. He points out how a situation would actually go in real life instead of like in the game, but he still enjoys watching the game and mentions it looks fun lol
A bit late, but I figured I'd add that one thing I also like aside from that general attitude is that he talks about gaming trends and tropes, and how that plays into the way weapons are depicted versus how they actually work. Like when he mentions how the way they reduce damage for SMGs versus pistols isn't accurate, but also discusses how it's understandable to do so to keep gameplay balanced so the pistols don't become irrelevant. Instead of just saying "this is wrong," he usually goes with "this isn't accurate, but it's fun and here's why I think they do it that way."
It's actually an interesting mechanic when machine pistols/SMG's use the same ammo type as handguns in survival horror/action games, because it is much more powerful in terms of DPS but it wastes all of your handgun ammo and without any handgun ammo, you can be in a lot of trouble.
TMP doesn't use pistol rounds in-game. It was given its own bullets. The blue Jackal brand. Pistols use the red Hawk brand, shotguns the green Bear round, etc.
You're practically describing the Matilda in RE4 and no-one uses it compared to the TMP. People can just regulate their fire-rate otherwise, an SMG is a straight upgrade over a handgun.
Most modern smg's are select fire meaning they can be fired semi auto also, and not just full auto. So there goes another reason to prefer handguns over smg's.
I love how he is very knowledgeable of firearms, but at the same time he knows they are just games so he has fun with it and isn't being a major stickler over the details. He also seems to know a bit about the games too. He's very fun to watch. I would love to see more of him on the channel.

He does wind it! he just winds it after, you can see him do a twisting motion before he grabs the handle after loading the shells. There also IS a loading port in the game, you can see it.
Jonathan could so easily be a weapons consultant for any video game developer. Not only is he incredibly knowledged in guns, but he understands design and gameplay mechanics of why guns fit certain situations! I'd back it, we've had stunt men direct action movies and that's led to us having crazy original films like John Wick and the Raid series!
4:28 The Colt M1911 (Killer7) in RE4 is depicted as being as powerful as a videogame magnum revolver, because *it is* a Magnum. The ammunition the Killer7 and Broken Butterfly use is .45 Winchester Magnum. The .45 Win Mag cartridge is a magnumized version of the .45 ACP cartridge the M1911 uses. The LAR Grizzly is an example of a real life .45 Win Mag handgun.
Just saw the model, yep they fixed it in later games, but it's written 45 ACP on the side of the box. Seems like the Plagas have a weakness to .45 ACP calibers for some reason so maybe that's why the Thompson is so powerful in this game

I only subscribed to GameSpot because of this series. This guy is such a pleasure to listen to, its like getting a nice treat from that one guy you don't often see in your feed but you get so happy when he appears!
10:30 Those exploding rounds actually do remind me of something real; a couple of years back InRangeTV here on TH-cam tested WWII German and Russian exploding bullets used by snipers of the respective countries. The bullets in that video have reactions a lot like (though the real ones are slightly less energetic) what you see in that RE4 clip.
8:23 This is historically accurate as my great grandfather who was an actual mafia in New York in early 1920s could confirm that he only needs to strike a stylish pose for the drum mag Thompson to reload itself. It was quite a well kept secret among some of the best mafias in the day since reloading the drum mags manually could be quite a hassle and takes much longer than striking a stylish pose.
And quickly, before a shitty remake removes every good thing about it and becomes the new go-to version of RE4 that Capcom releases on every new system
This is truly excellent. As a fan of RE4 and knowing next to nothing about guns, I love how this is a 4th wall analysis using real world example and physics. The highlight being “the other thing, which is a TREMENDOUS health and safety hazard, is that the girl who keeps following Leon around...would be dead 💀” brilliant 😂
there's nothing much to analyze, the STARS exclusive "Kendo Special" are very precisely handcrafted service pistols that were supposed to be custom tailored to each STARS operator, there wasn't supposed to be a non-unique version of the Samurai Edge, it just so happened that the STARS unit didn't get enough range and service time with the weapons to have specific customizations to their own "Samurai Edges", Chris, Wesker, Barry and Jill all had customized versions since they were the ones who got to trial the prototype and early stages of the weapons

Would be great to see Jon react to some Metal Gear Solid weapons, MGS3, MGS4 or MGSV would be my recommendation because of their weapon variety (+ some of the more fantastical weaponry; The Patriot, EZ Gun, Handheld Railgun, etc.)
For anyone wondering, the RPG in RPG-7 stands for Ruchnoy protivotankoviy granatomyot. You are now armed with the knowledge to besserwisser most of the internet, please use responsibly. **reloads fedora**
Yeah I get it, the Russians had a different term to descripe the RPG-7. The Ruchnoy Protivotankoviy Granatomyot which means Hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher. But here's the thing, Russians are not the only people who used RPGs. Why would English speakers like the US military use a weapon that has a name that stands for something in Russian? Seriously, you try pronouncing the Russian name, go on. It isn't even accepted among the media, even the US military has accepted the term Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher or the RPG Launcher.

For me RE5 has better guns, not to say but Revolvers feel way better. But that's just my opinion.
The fact that he understands how games work really helps this whole thing.

Fun fact, The magnum name Killer7 is a reference to the then-upcoming cult classic of the same name, which Shinji Mikami produced.
5:28 the game specifies that the gun is chambered in .45 magnum. So its not a regular m1911, its more along the lines of an LAR Grizzly or .460 rowland handgun.
"Ruchnoy Protivotankovy Granatomet 2 (RPG-2), a “Light Antitank Grenade Launcher” featuring a reusable launcher that lobbed an 82-mm shaped-charge warhead more than 150 yards.
Wrong. You can clearly see .45 ACP written on the magnum ammo box in RE4.
Also the fact that the Killer7 is based on the AMT Hardballer, which isn't chambered in .45 win mag.
Just saw the model, yep they fixed it in later games, but it's written 45 ACP on the side of the box.
Seems like the Plagas have a weakness to .45 ACP calibers for some reason so maybe that's why the Thompson is so powerful in this game

The TMP is very underrated. People dropped it in favor of the more heavy damaging pistols but the TMP can carry you throughout the entire game

You should react to some of the firearms from “The Highwaymen”;Texas rangers on the trail of Bonnie and Clyde.
Great movie!
I have a feeling this guy would hang out at Kendo's Gun Shop.
Now I want to see Sir Ferguson analyzing a Beretta 92F Samurai Edge.
there's nothing much to analyze, the STARS exclusive "Kendo Special" are very precisely handcrafted service pistols that were supposed to be custom tailored to each STARS operator, there wasn't supposed to be a non-unique version of the Samurai Edge, it just so happened that the STARS unit didn't get enough range and service time with the weapons to have specific customizations to their own "Samurai Edges", Chris, Wesker, Barry and Jill all had customized versions since they were the ones who got to trial the prototype and early stages of the weapons
It genuinely gives me anxiety when the person playing isn't running up to kick stunned enemies.
He's trying to show off the guns, not Leon's fabulous kicks.
I think the M1911 in RE4 is supposed to be one of those Grizzly .45 Winchester Magnum pistols, that's why it behaves like a videogame magnum
Nah. The Killer 7 is obviously based on the AMT Hardballer 1911 used by Arnie in T1. As for the power? Straight up Hollywood fiction.
I appreciate that he actually understands a little bit more about the way games are developed and isn't just dryly pointing out things that are unrealistic. Everything he had to say about the actual guns and their translation into the game by the developers was super interesting, too. Excellent review!
Nice to see someone that doesn't just rag in inaccuracies, but understands they're there for game balance.

11:41 i think the sound AFTER he loads it is him winding it up albeit extremely fast and efficient
So, at 9:41 there's a really weird cut in the middle of talking about the RPG-7. If it really doesn't stand for Rocket Propelled Grenade, what does it stand for? Or is the cut a misleading splice? I've got a lot of respect for Mr. Ferguson. But he doesn't usually leave one hanging for information.
