I love this video, it helps me a lot in trying to improve in my big wheel driving lesson I'm currently learning under the Dangote cement vehicle here in Nigeria. Please keep putting more vids for more people like me out there
I've been driving attics 20 years ,on my training I thought there's no way I'm getting the trailer between those cones , I did, just. Reversing is a skill, it takes time to develop, when you have confidence in your ability you worry about it ,but there are some drivers who never really master it ,they get by , but in most cases it's just practice
Please I'm 22 year old man from Ghana ( west Africa). Please I'll love it if you can help me get my CDL in Europe. Actually, I know how to drive a tipper truck. It has been my dream to drive a trailer in Europe but it seems help is coming from no where.
That’s a very small artic. I’m doing it in a 48 footer. I did the reverse ok, but failed the test due to an outrageous left turn on the road that even my instructor of 30 years couldn’t get around without touching the kerb.
Davey England I failed mine first time due to the instructor saying I had the truck in reverse when doing the shunts to see if the trailer was connected I will swear I didn’t but oh well resit this morning 🤞🏻
John Kilshaw - I just failed a third time. “Change of direction” on approach to a roundabout. Silly error. Costly error 💰 💰 💰 I’ll have to pony up another £300 for another 4 hour lesson and £415 for the test, with a 2 hour lesson beforehand.
Davey England keep going with it mate will be worth it in the end, I just passed mine this morning, completely messed up the reverse in the bay forgot everything I had learned nerves got the better of me, took two shunts and composed myself and eventually got it in, uncoupled the trailer and forgot to pull out the kingpin so had to get out and correct what I had done, lost my nerve and went out on the drive and to be honest had a worse drive then my first test and got a pass with ten minors, missed a turn on the roundabout but just went round again till I got it right but incurred some minors because I took to long to get on the correct lane then brushed one kerb later on In the drive, the instructor put me at ease with a conversation of small Talk and I think can sense if your capable bec failed my first test with 4 minors so figure that out, perseverance mate u will be buzzing when you get it . Also I live in Spain so had to pay for the resits plus flights car hire and accommodation for the week so you can imagine how relieved I am 😃
@@divineprovidence803 smaller trailer is harder to reverse if you are use to the normal full size ones as the pivot point is different tend to overshoot the steering input with a smaller trialer.

@@seismic6402 I just took my articulate, with a dolly-trailer.. 14/15 lessons were reverse, 1/15 were on roads.. i guess you could add lessons on roads if you dont have a car / truck license beforehand!
@@Denstoradiskmaskinen Hi, in the UK the reverse takes about 5-10 minutes of an hour-long test, with the articulated HGV test also doing a short decouple in that time. The remainder of the test is out on the road. While the reverse certainly isn't simple, many times a fail occurs due to events out on the road. If someone simply wishes to tow a trailer over 750kg behind a car or van, there is a separate test that can be done without having to get involved with driving a tractor unit like in the video.
@@seismic6402 The remainder of the test is on the road for sure, thats why you practice reverse the most, so when you need to handle your setup you can :) My training were as i said, 15 lessons, how do driving schools in the UK layout the courses? Did you need to practice driving a trailer forward, like alot?
@@Denstoradiskmaskinen Effectively it is equivalent to two 7 hour days to fit everything in. Typical routes are covered and certainly a much greater proportion would be on the road than your experience. Going forward is much more natural, but there are some differences for someone converting from driving a rigid, which really do require an instructor to supervise. Going straight for the test without much forward driving in traffic and on typical test routes would likely result in a fail.
@@575garden thanks! I found it in another comment that you can have two shunts (forward movements) and leave the cab once to inspect your reversing work, usually best saved for checking if you are over the black line in the yellow hatched area at the end of the manoeuvre. Any other useful tips? I like someone’s suggestion that the top of the steering wheel can be though of as for steering left and right while driving forwards and the bottom of the steering wheel can be used for left and right while reversing so you don’t have to think in terms of opposite steering.

Igor Zdanowski you can move forward twice in your exam. It's known as a "shunt". You are allowed 2 shunts during the reversing part of your exam.
