  • When the world is WFT, Video Journalists Write The Future
    - Jürgen Hinzpeter was a video journalist of ARD, Germany who informed the world what actually happened during "1980 Gwangju Pro-Democracy Movement" in South Korea. Many years after, he was often called 'a blue-eyed witness' by in Korea.
    - His story was made into a movie 'Taxi Driver' in 2017. Thomas Kretschmann, who happened to be German national, took the role of Jürgen Hinzpeter. KIM Sa-bok, his driver was played by SONG Gang-ho of 'Parasite'.
    * It's worth mentioning that Hinzpeter was not the only alien in the blocked city of Gwangju then. Some 10 foreign correspondents - including Bradley K. Martin, Donald Kirk and Norman Thorpe - were there recording brutal violence committed by the military against its own citizens.
    - To admire a journalists spirit, 'The May 18 Memorial Foundation' and 'Korea Video Journalist Association' enacted Hinzpeter Awards.
The Awards aims to "recognize and honor video journalists who seek the truth, protect human rights and fight for justice as recorders of reality and chroniclers of history", according to the organizer.
    * Currently, the organizer is having difficulty making the Awards known to the world due to limited resources. It would be appreciated for spreading words around, if you find it worthwhile.
    - Invitation to public participation ends on 27 July 2021. More detailed information can be found at www.hinzpeterawards.com.
