Novation SL MkII MIDI controller summary:
•Velocity-sensitive, semi-weighted action keyboard with assignable after-touch. Italian made keyboard mechanism plays like a musical instrument rather than a computer accessory
•Brightly lit LED rings around the eight smooth encoders, and backlit buttons provide instant visual feedback
•Long LCD screen is large enough to show the name and value of entire rows of knobs, faders or buttons, instantly displaying what each control is assigned to
•Touch any knob or fader and all information (name and value of whatever it is controlling) will appear on the LCD screen above it
•SL MkII comes with Automap software which enables you to instantly map software parameters to faders, buttons, knobs (encoders and pots) and other controllers
•SL MkII can be USB powered, with expression and sustain pedal inputs as well as MIDI in and out ports for connecting external MIDI instruments

These are then triggered using the SLMKII Clip launching features (see response video).
All drums, bass & Leads parts ARE actually played in LIVE in real time and Looped by the demonstrator who spend some time rehearsing the performance before the video takes. The knobs and encoders are assigned to important effects processors such as Beat repeater effect in Ableton live, and FIlters and sends etc. Three takes were recorded and the best live performance chosen and uploaded as shown.

Guys, this particular Novation keyboard is just a controller. The artist in the video is using it to trigger all the parameters and virtual instruments in Ableton Live. You guys should have known keyboard controllers do not have sounds. So one cannot compare the sound (because it does not have one) to another keyboard. All the sounds and effects are triggered via any DAW (in this particular video Ableton Live). I'm using a 25-key and a 49-key M-Audio key, the Line 6 Tone Port KB37 which also serves as a recording interface with multiple I/Os. On the humble side, I prefer carrying my Korg NanoKey and NanoKontrol. My DAWs of choice are Ableton Live, FL Studio & Presonus Studio One.

Hell, this video made me finally decide for the novation sl mkII 61. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, and i'm excited as hell :D i just simply can't wait a couple more hours :)

@naodigo12 Both the Ultranova and the SL MK II send typical MIDI information which can trigger samples. The Ultranova has drum patches on board to allow you to create your own drum sounds. The SL MK II has drum pads however and the Ultranova doesn't. The SL MK II is a MIDI Controller, whereas the Ultranova is a Synthesizer / Midi Controller, so they are different beasts.
great controller, got one to two months and I was surprised. is complete, in addition to the software, will also control my good old Korg Poly.

only one problem: the product that I bought here in Brazil came with the second key problems. Is "soft", but plays as he had commitments and needed to use it, do not re-sent to the importer, believe to be a simple problem ...
An advice: Ask for the importer / representative of Brazil, check all equipment arriving here.

this piece of hardware looks rly usefull but what makes this video rly mindblowing is the guy playing it ;P i loved it anychance ya do anymore like does? best regards
@jacot2000 its an anolog style filter, on a synth part add a certain amount of resonance (find the perfect amount afterwards) and then sweep through the cutoff, it will create a low pass filter effect
@Tremulant691 For the Leads DCAM and Analog were used, and for bass Massive and analog.

After seeing this it makes me feel ashamed of having all these nice real time controllers on my MKII 61 and not using them ;] - You have inspired me to learn the ways of the Novation FORCE! I'll have to get used to things going wrong but sounds like a challenge xD
@el3ktrofreak Yes the Ultranova plug-in editor and Novation USB drivers will work fine with FL Studio

it is a midi controller..... it doesn't make sound....
When I said "Finally something that sounds actually nice" I meant the performance not the midi controller.
@creative0ne Unfortunately you can not switch off Touch Sensitivity in the Automap mode. In the SL MK II Editor, it is not possible to add pages to your template, however you can set up multiple templates which would then act as multiple pages. For more information contact support.

@NovationTV don't forget that you obviously quantized some of it and added some things that went wrong. for example the snare drum hit @1:11

@jacot2000 no worries, he does it over the whole song though, doing it over just one synth or whatever will sound different, try doin it over all the drums in a tune so you can slowly bring it down for effect or whatever

@orientalflux For this you need the latest Ableton Live 8.1.2 beta and you need to update the SL MkII's templates using Automap 3.4.1 beta.

The main difference here is the LED feedback. Operation with an SL25 and Live remain the same.
pretty easy! Record your live session audio, then sync it with your video. no need for cables or speakers or whatsoever.

@kuyomayasaka of course its not easy other wise everyone could make music...but i think this is trying to show you is how fast you can control and record on the fly just like with a real instrument. and thats what im looking for to have a sound in your head and then be able to record it and add other instruments and fx to your first idea.
@chingueasumadretodo This is not a synthesizer, it is a standard midi controller which controls your DAW's mixer, plugins and transport functions.
@tifius when you hit the arm track button below the faders, it arms whatever instrument is on that track automatically so you can use the keyboard with it.

If you are talking about the onboard drum pads, you should be able to edit the velocity curves within whatever software you are using. Most plugins also allow 'per-preset' velocity characteristics as well. With keeping the beat, you can try quantizing to a set BPM within the software.

@POODYMAN2010 i'd say go with novation. the m-audio had some complaints for the "sticky keys"... but you're on a novation video,so i'll guess you're mostly going to hear the same answer. better go to your local music store and try out both of them for yourself :)
@misterDjantic yes if there is a "midi thru" port...but would not recommend more than 2 other keyboards at a time...something to do with processing/signal flow and so on...:)

...i don't understand your point. i know exactly what you are talking about, but i don't understand your point. obviously there was syncing done, but that has nothing to do what i'm talking about. i am pointing out clear evidence that this was done in multiple takes. if you want to argue that regardless of multiple takes, everything your hear was in fact recorded as the video recorder ran, i don't dispute that. i dispute that this is a "one take performance".

Could I edit the control template of a device like Simpler and save it, so when I select any Simpler at anytime, I could get the same knobs that I wanted to control especifc parameter inside the device?

2.Im using this live template, all seem to work fine, but the clip dont start to record(loop) while being armed before. I need to rearm it during the playback.
So I cant perform anything similiar to the first bars of this video.

@leadfarmer13 I own a 25sl (not mkii) and a launchpad, and now all I carry around with me is a nanokontrol, nanokey, and launchpad. I barely use my uc-33e anymore, either. So my recommendation if you're looking into more novation stuff is a zero and a korg nanokey (don't buy the icon ikey, I have one and it's trash; believe it or not, the nanokey blows it away). But to be honest, just spend $100-110 and get a nanokey and nanokontrol - automapped knobs are pretty useless, you'd be surprised.
Any chance you could give us details on your ableton set, and how you have the controller mapped to each part/effect? A breakdown of this video would be fantastic.

Id say this has more to do with the latency buffer size settings in preferences->audio, than the midi controller. The human ear can't perceive latency delays under 30ms very well (if at all)...perfectly possible with a dual-core mac and damn sure a quad-core one.
Point being...its not the controller.
to a begginer isnt novation SLII a litlle bit complex?
Compared to the akai in therms of effects it is more confortable and pratical in this one?
and finaly Does the novation ultranova have the same capabilities in the beat making compared to the SL II

I GOT A DOUBT:
I wanted to know if using a FootSwitch with the SL MKKII and AutoMap PRO 3, I can send the command of the key "enter" of my PC's keyboatd by pressing the pedal conected to the SL MKII.
I know I can send keys combinations (for instance a Ctrl+C) using any control of SL MKII (like a pedal connetected) but I don't know about using a single key (like "Enter" on PC) by the pedal connected in the SL MKII.

How about FL? does it work well with fl studio?
Anything close to 30ms is a huge latency! Most people should definitely notice unless of course you're playing a pad with a slow attack.
