@nairobibeats Yes, it is being used in mixer mode. The LED feedback automatically updates when the mixer levels are changed using the faders on the Zero SL MK II.
It's best to use session mode for triggering clips. 'user 1' was intended to be used for sending note data to MIDI tracks in Live. You can map both 'user 1' and 'user 2' modes using Live's MIDI map feature. You can also map the Zero controls in the same way and as mentioned above you can use the Launchpad to play an instrument by selecting 'user 1' mode and setting the MIDI input of your instrument track to 'Launchpad'.
The unit on the left uses the arpeggiator MIDI effect that comes with Ableton. It is playing sliced up audio spread across the 64 pads. The left hand unit also triggers sounds in the first four tracks. No monome emulators or max patches were used in this Live set. Everything you see/hear is done using the Launchpad version of Live that comes bundled with the Launchpad.
@DeeJaySens3 Yes, you can DJ in Ableton Live with the Zero SL MK II and the Launchpad either at home or at the club, and you can record your sets within the software itself. Alternatively both can be used to create remixes on the fly.
@Tekesaurusrex Just to clarify, max4live was not used. The unit on the left uses the arpeggiator MIDI effect that comes with Ableton. It is playing sliced up audio spread across the 64 pads. The left hand unit also triggers sounds in the first four tracks.
@madedd02 These are controllers so they don't have music stored on them but can easily be used to trigger and control music in most recording software, including Reason and FL.
@Luccasio1 You can make any music you like with the Zero SL MK II and the Launchpad. They do not have internal patches, they control plugins and DAW functions.
@sbdubs Yes, if you don't want to use the Automap or Live template, simply use one of the other MIDI templates and assign MIDI messages using MIDI learn in Live.
This can be done with 1 Launchpad by switching modes. The user 2 part is purely a visual effect. There is a MIDI track sending note messages to the Launchpad to trigger the LEDs.
Set up a MIDI channel with arpeggiator before your software instrument and set up LED feedback for that channel as per the "How can I get LED feedback from Abelton in USER mode" article on the Novation answerbase.
@telkmx This is done using follow on actions in Ableton, you can set a clip or group of clips to follow on to the next scene after a certain clip length. Search Follow actions Ableton and you should find some tutorials on youtube.
I was going to buy the Launchpad and Mkll, but I was worried how they might work together/if there are any problems, but you sir just blew my worries away. In a very minimalistic fassion!
@teqnicolourdawn OK... so the launchpad is in User 1 mode, so that the Launchpad will send notes to Ableton Live. Create a MIDI track and add a drumrack, and slice some audio in it. In order for the lights to light up, just create another track and route MIDI from that back to Launchpad (there is a video that shows this somewhere). NOW... the trick... is to add...a MIDI arpegiator in Ableton live before the sliced drumrack. Its basically the arpegiator that makes all this happen.
They need to make a 16 channel version of this so we can have it sit above 2 launchpads and be able to do the manual levels and effects controls for 16 channels in a scene and leave the launchpads for direct scene manipulation.
I have a Launchpad and an SLMKII 25 and I get feedback on the session mode screen when I assign the drum pads on the keyboard to midi in Ableton. Theres no cross feedback in this vid, am I doing something wrong?
@NovationTV Is there a way to turn of the automap feature completely? I work in Ableton live with an APC40, and just wanted to use my Remote zero SL as an extra bank of knobs/buttons to custom assign. I am having trouble using the two devices together because they each have an automap feature.
I've got one. Only thing is I had to assign controls in Ableton. Wish there was a template for it like the Launchpad, where once you go in preference and Ableton loads its own template, so im not messing round with it. Ableton only recognizes the controls once I activated the faders, crossfader and nobs before use. Bit of a faff on but good piece of kit! Plus I wish it picked up inserted effects, instead of going to midi map and assigning parameters.
How is he getting the launchpad's buttons to light up with the arpeggiator? I have updated to live 8.1.3 and have automap 3.4.1 and cannot get this to happen?
Is there any classes i can take to learn how to use this equipment and its software... I have already been messing around on fruity loops for a few months now...
@teqnicolourdawn Please contact technical support via the 'contact us' section of our answerbase including a screenshot of your MIDI Sync preferences and channel settings.
What were you doing on the launchpad on the left ? Were those loops or effects that you were launching? And if so how did u get them to launch that way?
can u control effects with the knobs on the remote zero... iwas thinking about getting the AKAI APC40 but i wonder if il be able to do the same stuff if i get a set up like yours
my question is how can he use the launchpad as a fader? does the launchpad come with a preset for this? cause i really want to use it like this. not only like this. just the knobs on my akai mpk mini arent so useful. its not so easy to use as draging your finger up and down on the pads
let say i want to use soundtoys vsts instead on ableton fx on the master channel. is there a way that i could create an automatic integration between launchpad and third party vst , as the integration it has with ableton plugs.
Love what you are doing on the left launchpad (arpeggio?). I just got ableton lite with a remote sl 25 and a launchpad and i'm still figuring most of it out. But what are you actually controlling on the left somekind of arpeggio module vst or something? (Yes i know i'm n00b :))
I'm looking at videos made 12 years ago and can not figure out why Novation did not do an updated version of this controller. I've been looking to replace a Korg Kontrol49 but instead to update it with another control surface for softsynths with a shit load of controls.
Is there any information/tutorial how to make this awesome demosong? It sounds great and only this track made me ordering a novation SL and a Launchpad! I loved the Novation K-Station but it seems to be nearly impossible to get a cheap one in very good condition.
Hi Novation, I have one Zero Mkii and im working on Ableton, I use Zero as non Automap, i have customized myself, and when i editing a button theres an option that says that i can turn thtat button into a sequencer button. Can I use my controller as a sequencer?
hello! i have an important issue , plz plz give me feedback! i had bought the launchpad yesterday, great stuff. but i'm having the next problem : when i use it on my laptop (intel i3, 3gb ddr3, win 7 64-bit) i have a lot of lag or lattency when changing pages or scrolling with the arrows, it makes the launchpad almost useless. when i ran it on my desktop (amd athlon,2gb,winXP 32) it runs smoothly and wonderfull. i've seen some other people with this issue..could you please help, novation ?
Great Video showing what can be done with this amazing gear but HOW it is setup would be much more useful! I have the Zero MkII and the Launchpad but would use Maschine for the drum parts but how to set it all up seems overwhelming..
Could you make a video on HOW to set these up? I have both pieces of gear and would really appreciate a setup vid..also can you save the settings? Thanks!

@bergweg All of the devices (instruments and effects) used here are from Ableton Live.

i am from Recife in Brazil south america and we love this higher end then m-audio midi controllers from novation,,,kudos to you guys

Hi RobertNey92,
This has been setup using the Launchpad in User 1 mode and setting up a channel to provide feedback to the Launchpad.
@teqnicolourdawn OK... so the launchpad is in User 1 mode, so that the Launchpad will send notes to Ableton Live. Create a MIDI track and add a drumrack, and slice some audio in it. @NovationTV So no extra tweaking is needed, everything automaps itself automatically to the selected instruments and effects?
They need to make a 16 channel version of this so we can have it sit above 2 launchpads and be able to do the manual levels and effects controls for 16 channels in a scene and leave the launchpads for direct scene manipulation.
@NovationTV I just watched the Novation Launchpad user mode 1 vid and it showed me thanks.
@badaszewski we will create a tutorial video showing how to achieve this in the near future.
Why not have a look at the Ultranova !
There are some great videos showing the two units together.
I have a Launchpad and an SLMKII 25 and I get feedback on the session mode screen when I assign the drum pads on the keyboard to midi in Ableton. Theres no cross feedback in this vid, am I doing something wrong?

im guessing its one of the 3 or 4 monome emulators for max for live available
I've got one. Only thing is I had to assign controls in Ableton. Wish there was a template for it like the Launchpad, where once you go in preference and Ableton loads its own template, so im not messing round with it. My question is what midi instru with which effects are you using on the left LaunchPad ? Is it an integrated arpeggiator or something I don't get ?
@NovationTV How do the clip play line a line without any touch of the player at 1:20 ?
Is there any classes i can take to learn how to use this equipment and its software... I have already been messing around on fruity loops for a few months now...
@teqnicolourdawn Please contact technical support via the 'contact us' section of our answerbase including a screenshot of your MIDI Sync preferences and channel settings.
If this is a setup in which i would like to have for my self, is it really or not really essential to have a midi key board ?
What were you doing on the launchpad on the left ? Were those loops or effects that you were launching? And if so how did u get them to launch that way?

how did he get rid of the pesky cord on the side of those Novation Launchpads?
the arpeggiator effect send feedback to launchpad??
Would be great a guide for this!
@NovationTV not that you explained it makes soo much sense!
@NovationTV
can the launchpad be used to control logic pro's 9 mixer, mutes, solos, etc... just as it does for live in the launchpads mixer mode???
you can play music as a dj with this to parties or clubs or it is just for doing a remix...???
what are you running iin each launchpad?....isn't the left one some kind of Max app?
Does one need special plug-ins for such a set up?
let say i want to use soundtoys vsts instead on ableton fx on the master channel.
is there a way that i could create an automatic integration between launchpad and third party vst , as the integration it has with ableton plugs.
I still don't get what is he using or for what is he using the left hand side Launchpad.
I like the step sequencer in user mode 1, is there any chance that u can make a tutorial 4 this ?
Love what you are doing on the left launchpad (arpeggio?). I just got ableton lite with a remote sl 25 and a launchpad and i'm still figuring most of it out. But what are you actually controlling on the left somekind of arpeggio module vst or something? (Yes i know i'm n00b :))
@DJWaYOfficialChannel I think it's possible (with Automap). But it's designed for Ableton Live.
What are u using to sequence or to record the chords?
@MartinMarsOfficial Please search for Luanchpad Promo Explained and this should be covered.
when are you going to do a launchpad pro promo?
Are you using Step sequencer with the launchpad??? Thanksss bro!
I'm looking at videos made 12 years ago and can not figure out why Novation did not do an updated version of this controller. I've been looking to replace a Korg Kontrol49 but instead to update it with another control surface for softsynths with a shit load of controls.
Thanks for your feedback on this! Great to hear that you're a fan of ZeRO SL MkII.
what exactly happens at 0:21 with the zero mkII?
what plugin u use for the launchpad ?????????
How do you get that beat grid on your left launchpad?
Great work, do you recomend any good Synths to go with the launchpad? I ordered my launchpad yesterday
If i got a launchpad would i also need the SL mk2 ?
how good do you have to be to use this exact setup for a dj set ?? apparently really good !
This is a pretty cool song actually. Is it available for download anywhere?
Is there any information/tutorial how to make this awesome demosong? It sounds great and only this track made me ordering a novation SL and a Launchpad!
I loved the Novation K-Station but it seems to be nearly impossible to get a cheap one in very good condition.

Hi,
The SL doesn't have motorized faders.
How accurate the volume sliders are??
is he using max4live on the launch pad?
@NovationTv: WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE LAUNCHPAD ON THE LEFT? ? Tons of people are asking.
1:40 is absolutely great!
Does this controller work with Cubase essentials 5 ?
would you prefer this setup or akai apc40+apc20 ?
What synth are you using in this?
and how much does the ZeRO sl MkII cost in USD
OH MAH GOODNESS 0:50 to 1:05 XD AHHH I lost it! That was sick!!!!
What music genre is this?
hello! i have an important issue , plz plz give me feedback!
i had bought the launchpad yesterday, great stuff. but i'm having the next problem : when i use it on my laptop (intel i3, 3gb ddr3, win 7 64-bit) i have a lot of lag or lattency when changing pages or scrolling with the arrows, it makes the launchpad almost useless. when i ran it on my desktop (amd athlon,2gb,winXP 32) it runs smoothly and wonderfull. i've seen some other people with this issue..could you please help, novation ?
+1 Would really like to know how to control the arpeggiator like in the video.
Hi I just bought a zero mk 2 but will it work with high Sierra on.Mac?
Yes, there's no reason why that shouldn't work well. We've actually just replied to your message about this on Facebook 👍
What's the left one controlling?
I mean the patch name :)
Does anyone know how to set up a launchpad in albeton to work as a step sequencer like this guy did?
Great Video showing what can be done with this amazing gear but HOW it is setup would be much more useful! I have the Zero MkII and the Launchpad but would use Maschine for the drum parts but how to set it all up seems overwhelming..
Could you make a video on HOW to set these up? I have both pieces of gear and would really appreciate a setup vid..also can you save the settings? Thanks!
Very nice set.
Can anybody link to any beginner tutorials on this sort of equipment? I want to learn the basics.
Sweet, but what the hell's going on on those pads? I'd like to know more.
@NovationTV Thanks ! this vids rockz
awsome! does this work whit cubase?
Ditto. I plugged it in once and it did the demo light show.
@KyleLiggett may be electro (not house) or breaks
no cables?
Novation turned Tetris into something really fun and cool!
Hello!
Does it have motorized faders?
Thank You :)
Can you make house music with this?
Matt, got the SL MKII being delivered tomorrow, can't wait. Question: where can I get more of your music? The track in the demo is sick!!!!
anybody knows where to find the final version of this track?
Not sure this was ever released but you can check out more music by Matt Derbyshire aka thesecondwall here - soundcloud.com/thesecondwall
