My mother was offered a two up two down semi detached cottage for £90 in 1964 . It was 4 miles north of Luton . Her parents wouldn't lend her the money . I don't think she ever really forgave them .

I think I was better off without him in my life anyway . My mother RIP was wise enough council to point me on the right path .

I do believe the "socialist" of the four ladies is a very young somebody who played the iron-willed Pearl who'sit in 'Last of the Summer Wine' !! I've never seen her in anything else and I do enjoy discovering my people in other roles. Peter Sallis was my sweetheart of this series tho'. I just discovered this film after watching 'Alive and Kicking' and then searching for more Sybil Thorndike. I thoroughly enjoyed both!!
The actress playing the socialist was Miriam Karlin most known for playing a union leader in the sitcom The Rag Trade. Pearl in LOTSW was played by a different actress called Juliette Kaplan who was actually younger than the character she played
Good film with a nice cast Robert Morley, Peggy Mount, Harry H Corbett, Jon Pertwee, Ron Moody using a plot line which was recently borrowed and updated with City char ladies which highlights how technology might come and go but information will always have a value.

This film reminds me of the ITV drama Cleaning Up starring Sheriden Smith. Does anybody remember, where she played a cleaner who organised a team of her fellow cleaners to work the corporate offices of London. After coming across a hot tip while on her cleaning shift, she set out to pull the rug from underneath their corporate feet. Interesting !

Wonderful. Nobody has ever matched Peggy Mount as a battleaxe. Many have tried. But Peggy was the best. Even better than Ena Sharples. Lol
