Not sure it was a better place. There were still many problems and wars going on. Looking at things with Rose tinted glasses can play tricks on the memory. For many of us we were kids or young people at this time so didn't have many problems but for the older generations, they still did.

Watching this after a few cheap movies on Netflix is like coming home. The acting is superb, the sets, the costumes, the direction and above all take note: The entire film describes one day, from morn till night in the lives of us common folk. Utterly believable.

Life would be simpler now if there wasn't all the computer technology. It's as if you sell your soul for less back pain. Yes, life was, to a certain degree, simpler. But the oncoming generations won't know the difference, just as we didn't know the difference between our "now" and the "then" of our predecessors.

I can state that this film was exactly how things were in England, in the early 1970s. I'm still not decided whether I liked this film or not but if anyone wants to know how the working class looked, spoke and lived at that time, this film is closer to the mark than anything else you'll see.
Note that in the film, Irene Handl had a very pronounced London accent but in reality, she had an educated "posh" accent. I've seen her on the stage a few times and she never failed to impress.

I feel like I've stumbled across a real gem of a film from yester-year, and I couldn't be happier.
I enjoyed all the 'For The Love of Ada' TV programmes when they were shown in 70-71and the whole family would sit down to watch every time it was on.
It was sweet, completely harmless and very popular.
Take me back to a simpler, kinder time any day, and compared to some of the rubbish that purports to be entertainment on telly today, I'll happily watch these classic programmes all day, every day thanks.
Made my day watching this, stepping back in time and taking a stroll down memory lane for a little while.

A lovely film, one of the best adaptations of a sitcom ever, with two of my favourite stars of TV and silver screen, Irene Handl and Wilfred Pickles. What a poignant line, when Irene talks about hoping they would both live to get a telegram from the Queen. Sadly, neither of them did, but at least Wilfred got an OBE. A great supporting cast too, including Arthur English, Jack Smethurst and the lovely Hilda Braid. Comedy at its best. Thanks again Flick Vault!

You are an absolute STAR for posting this - thank you, SO much :0) Irene Handl is one of my all-time favourite actresses of yesteryear. I've not seen a single thing with her in, that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. When you consider that her early years of fame were in the black & white era, having started out in later adulthood, that she, as what they'd called a character actor, became an older lady still & had feared that parts would dry up for her, to have something as wonderful as For The Love of Ada come along, it must have felt like winning the lottery. Then, she gave us a great turn in Metal Mickey! Joy! Becoming a household name across the generations is no mean feat. I will always love & miss her. So maternal, she'd had me wishing she was my mum, yet she, as I too, never married or had children. R.I.P. darling lady.
