Well done. We could use more Rob Maurer interviews. Would love to see Rob interview Cathie Wood or Tasha from Ark. Their research and insight would be a real benefit to the Tesla community at this time.
Thank you, Rob!! Thank you so much for letting me hear this interview with Jimmy. I came away appreciating Elon more. Never knew he was in a terrible car accident, lost his kid…makes me appreciate him even more, and am glad I am invested with Elon’s company Tesla.
Excellent interview...Soni reminds us once again that any media: social, newspapers, podcasts, TH-cam, etc NEVER can recount a real story in real life that is so much more nuanced, richer, deeper. Congratulations to him.
Great conversation. I would have skipped this book thinking it was another superficial dive into Elon, but learning about the dedication to research and accuracy won me over. Book is ordered!!
Awesome interview. As an older person I can really appreciate the fact that you chose to drop this interview on a Saturday. Jimmy's time spent on the book writing and his diving down into the details reminds me of slow cooked meat, and fine aged whiskey that when consumed reveal the quality of the goods over time. Rob, many thanks to your attention to detail with Tesla Daily that cuts to the core of what is really happening with Tesla on a daily basis.
Thanks to you both - this was epic. I strongly recommend this video to the many 'experts', currently giving their sage advice to Elon Musk as to what he should or shouldn't do when it comes to building [and] running a successful business.
Bro he bought Twitter for double what it was worth and then plunged its value even more. Stop acting like it was a smart decision and stop acting like his critics are dumb for pointing out the stupidity of musks decision. He would have been better off losing his deposit money than completing that purchase.
@@adolforios6285 Hi Adolfo. Unfortunately, I lack your clarity on the subject of Twitter decision making. My own view, 'dumb' as some might say, and that's ok, is that we are in the first inning of the Twitter ballgame. This game has a long way to go.
So true. Great insights. Adolfo, I don't know how many companies you've founded, merged or bought but I have done my fair part of that over the years and it's so easy to be a critic yet hard to get these things right. Could he walk away? Not according to the judge. Should he be doing this at this time? It seems like the answer is no but this story isn't finished. If Elon can turn around Twitter enough for others to run and he can raise more investment then he may do fine. But he seems to like to be living on the brink of ruin. Find out how close SpaceX and Tesla were to bankruptcy back 5 years ago. They were a phone call and a day away from chapter 11. I think Elon hasn't managed his public image well regarding Twitter and he seems to be picking far too many fights but we shall see where things are at in 3-5 years.
@@adolforios6285 Bro how many $ Multi-Billion Companies have YOU built?? ZERO?? Yeah, Thought so. Give him 12 to 24 months and come back and talk smack. Nearly EVERY Tech company is down 50% or More, including AMAZON being down 50%...Easily one of the Most Valuable Companies in the World. Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. I watch Tesla Daily.....well daily, and this was a great side effort. I'm a mechanical engineer with a career in failure and accident investigation so I appreciated Jimmy's comments on his learning about how engineers think. I experience that reality first hand when showing my friends FSD beta. They mostly see what FSD doesn't do (and there are many things it does not do well yet) but I see a miraculous complication of thousands of smaller engineering challenges, each one of which that could be the topic of an engineering PhD thesis. The persistent effort by engineers to continuously overcome these new challenges within SpaceX, Tesla, and now Twitter, is something that I personally find very motivating. All, the best Rob, and enjoy 69.3.3.
Great interview Rob. Much needed so to remind investors to not lose faith in Elon Musk. It’s difficult right now but with time and patient, they won’t be disappointed. Thanks Rob, esp Jimi. Can’t wait to read book.👍🏼

Awesome interview. Jimmy is a great person to interview, very interesting, lots of feeling and insight, funny, smart, etc. I lost track of time watching this. Totally gonna buy the book. I can't wait to see what Twitter will become in it's final form. Thanx guys!!
What a fabulous interview. The reminder of the true person that Elon has anyways been has needed to be told. Grateful for the time that he took to put this historical piece together. Thank you for bringing this discussion that us so needed at this moment to all of us. Outstanding work Rob
Speaking as a Engineer and one that is going to start at Tesla Berlin from January. Tesla, Elons story and the engineering challenges is so exciting and is the reason why I have always wanted to work there.
Thanks Rob for excellent interview and insights on early Elon days with Jimmy Soni. Very worthwhile discussion. Amazing how so many people jump to uninformed conclusions about Elon without doing any serious research to document their conclusions. I am confident that Elon will emerge from this the victor. Elon's track record is so very long and impressive. I would not bet against him.
Jimmy had some unique insights that he pulled from all this work, really cool to hear, nice interview. Would love to see an edited video that walks through the book, documentaries of Elon sound good too.
Wow! What a great interview Rob. Love to see how well you work your magic with the interview. I will definitely have to check out this book. And you definitely need to do more regular interviews. I am sure everyone has a long list of people they would love you to visit with.
Great Interview. During the interview I bought the Kindle version of the book and downloaded to my iPad. The history of Paypal revolutionizing transactions is relevant not only for understanding Twitter but also how crpyto is revolutionizing transactions. Amazed that Jimmy Soni's earlier book was on Claude Shannon (will get Kindle version of that too). Claude Shannon's Master's thesis basically invented digital electronics and his PhD thesis invented information theory part of which postulated that anything can be digialized. A postulate that Steve Jobs used to famous effect at Apple. Also loved Tracy Kidder book, "Soul of a New Machine" the book could also be called "The Last Minicomputer" because it chonicles the building of the Data General computer out of discrete integrated circuits just before the CPU on a chip took over the world.
Brilliant episode, i'm always surprised many people don't seem to have much interest in the pre tesla and Spacex era, when Elon turned from a regular guy with a lot of college debt, into a multi millionaire ceo and founder
And Qanon celebrity, conspiracy theory tweeting, loyal customer alienating, Tesla stock destroying etc. person. As hard as it is to swallow, his last three months of history are hugely relevant and if he continues down this path, hugely consequential for TSLA. If you're a TSLA shareholder, ignore this inconvenient time in history at your own peril.
@@hotlobstahvids I've been a shareholder for over 10 years now. He's been rather positive for the stock over that time! From an investment perspective, it's worrying that he's driving his core customer base away(and seems totally content with that!). Also, the other desperate car manufactures are in War Mode(or Survival Mode)and will exploit this situation(steal talent, customers) and could outmaneuver Elon. If I was Mary Barra or Jim Farley, that's exactly what I'd be doing. I have three Teslas in my driveway and it was a lot better when they were "Fun, Cool and Futuristic". So, we'll see.
No real talent will leave from Tesla to GM. They can’t do anything at GM because GM is barely doing anything in terms of BEVs. Their budget is a joke. Ford has real plans but there is still a huge difference in culture as much as Ford wants to change that.
