    The argon case actually functions as a USB M.2 enclosure you don't need to buy one. Just plug an USB A - A cable one side into the pc and one side into the Argon M.2 USB and boom, connected to the PC like a USB drive.

    I'm confused. At 9:38 you load the image onto the SSD enclosure. However, you already have the SSD inside of the Argon. You never mention about taking it out. It gives the impression that you have 2 SSDs. Anyway, at 8:38 I do everything perfect step-by-step but then I get a ""failed to open device: SD Card" on bootup. But why is it looking for my SD Card when I already have the NVME installed and formatted? What am I missing?

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I demonstrated multiple operating systems being installed PiOS, Recalbox and RetroPie (never know what people want to install, so showed a few to demonstrate how to do it). You actually don't need the enclosure shown in this video, you can use a USB Type-A to Type-A cable to connect it to your PC if you want (instead of the enclosure). I made a follow-up video on it here, to clarify: th-cam.com/video/LHZQKr5G7MA/w-d-xo.html This case can't use an NVME drive, you'll need an M.2 SSD such as the ones shown here: wagnerstechtalk.com/argonone/#Where_to_find_an_Argon_ONE . Also have some troubleshooting info here: wagnerstechtalk.com/argonone/#Troubleshooting

      Happy July 4th Walt! Here's a thread that sounds pretty similar to what you demonstrated in your excellent video response (thank you for that, very helpful): www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=294691 The issue reported in the thread turned out to be the power supply, he replied to his own post 8 days later with his solution. Are you using the official RPi power supply or the one from Argon ONE (18 watts 5.25 Volts 3.5 Amps)? I used the Argon ONE Raspberry Power Supply - 18 Watts 5.25 Volts 3.5 Amps (USB-C) Power Adapter ( www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TW4Q693 ). Otherwise, I don't see anything wrong (firmware appears fine, looks like the U-Connector is installed in the back, etc.), may just be that the power being used can't pull the needed extra current for the M.2 drive. In the thread above, he had no indication that there was an under-power condition and I also didn't see any indicator in your video. One other thing that you might try, use PiOS imager to erase/format the SSD as a Fat32 (option near the bottom). Then, re-install the OS to the SSD and see if that helps. Please let me know if this helps (or not). I can't think of anything else it may be, honestly.

    Does the Argon One M.2 case run the OS faster than the traditional MicroSD card? Does the SSD's reliance on a USB 3.1 jumper represent a bottleneck?

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely faster than a microSD card, but yes USB can become a bottleneck but with the Pi4 there are few options. If you have a Pi 5, an NVMe M.2 drive can be installed which will improve read/write speeds. More in this video: th-cam.com/video/tF85w9GW3r0/w-d-xo.html

    I plan on using the Argon one to a Pi 4 (8gb) to run Shinobi to capture at least 4 RTSP cameras that are running RTSP ON 4 cameras that I know have worked b4,on a Pi 3b+, using all 4 cameras that had captured videos from all cameras. Of course the FPS were really slow and sloppy. My issue is the Shinobi needs to run on a Lite version of bullseye. How do I install that on an SD card and then copy to SSD M.2 SSD installed on the Argone? Before on the pi 3 I just created the image of Pi lite version and installed Shinobi thru command lines. Since the pi 3 had everything done on an SD card but the Argone needs the image done on an SD card then copied to the SSD and the lite version doesn't have a copy of SD card copier installed is it possible to install a copy of SD card copier to the lite version, on the SSD, then somehow run it (please say you know how, will that fix my issue? Not to mention the fact that I will need to be able to remove the SD and boot off the SSD also! Anyone?

      Before writing, make sure it's plugged into a USB 3.0 port, may also want to use Raspberry Pi Imager to format the SSD before re-imaging (just to make sure there are no errors writing to the SSD). Aside from that, could be your WiFi. May want to cancel, check your internet speed (go to speedtest.net to perform a test if needed). If all appears good, try again.

You might have older firmware on your Pi 4, see the first bullet here for updating: wagnerstechtalk.com/argonone/#Troubleshooting (after updating the OS itself). If you already owned the prior model, Argon ONE case you can add the base with the M.2 to that existing case for $20. If you don't already have it, it's around $45. Hope that helps.

  • @sovereignlivingsoul

    Good concept, but I think it needs better active cooling, the fan supplied does nothing to cool the Argon. Mine runs in the mid 50's and hits 61 when I actually use it to watch a video or do some editing. I added thermal paste and it may have dropped 1 or 2 degrees. Waiting for my DeskPi Pro replacement parts then I will set it up and hopefully have better performance. My Muizei case is awesome, 36 degrees max 44 or so, I also have a dual fan on one of my pis and it is awesome.

    You didnt need an extra m.2 usb enclosure, you can use the argon case without the usb expansion, hook it up directly to a computer using usb to usb cable and install your operating system.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't see that in the manual, but I guess if you have a USB-A to USB-A cable this might work. Curious, did you happen to try this and it worked? If so, I definitely need to add that to the A1 guide. I appreciate the feedback!

      @@WagnersTechTalk I do have the argon1 m.2 case, and I did install my operating system this way. Yes interestingly it is not stated in the manual, I have seen another youtuber do it (with a usb-A to usb-A cable) then it made sense to me as the casing is actually m.2 to usb, and you hook that up to pi using a usb jumper. Why not skip the jumper and use the board as a USB to m.2 converter? Turns out I can save 20$ this way

      May not be for everyone, I enjoy it with PINN Lite for running multiple OSes and easy access to the GPIO. But others are going to want to use it as a media center, which you can do with the on-board IR receiver. This remote works well for that: th-cam.com/video/f_MfEZ194sU/w-d-xo.html , however the remote is about useless for anything other than Kodi. There are a lot of reasons why someone would want this case, but sure some are going to pass too. Hopefully some of this response is helpful to you.
