The part about people with migraines needing more salt blew my mind. When I cut out sugar and upped my intake of celtic salt, I completely stopped getting migraines - I used to get them daily.
It will be 2 months on the 25th May that I went carnivore. It's been very difficult stand firm, but videos like yours have helped me in many ways to stay on track. I am writing today to say a trillion thanks JUDY, because I was almost going out to buy potassium and magnesium supplements and just give up on the diet, but then I saw this video, clicked on it, and I found new hope again. I'll give the sole water a try and get back to you. I've been feeling too bad lately, not sleeping at night, being bloated, having brain fog, having my eye muscles over shaking, being depressed (I've been stressed up due to other factors lately). I started wondering if the carnivore diet was for me. Yesterday I fell out of the diet and ate potatoes and some beans. I felt more bloated, I was saying to myself, whatever. Thou I have had noticeable improvements on my health and overall wellbeing as a woman in the first month. Am from Cameroon in Africa, and to say I feel lonely with my carnivore diet is an understatement. Everyone around me is waiting to rush me to the hospital because I overate meat (hahahaha). Thanks again Judy, be blessed and strengthened.
@@sarahlash8320 Hi lovely, it did helped me a lot. I also started eating a tiny little bit of half-cooked liver every three days. I encourage you to not give up on your health journey. Even if you out some days, get back on track immediately after, within your means. Courage
The testimonies of people who healed their illnesses, which are often way more severe than mine, have always motivated me to get back on track. Never give up!
Very useful video Judy 👋👋 Blood volume is often overlooked in the electrolyte balance issue. Low blood volume, on any LC protocol, can often result in heart palpitations which REQUIRES increased water intake as a remedy This issue may also require replenishment of vital electrolytes too BUT, it is by increasing fluid in the body, that blood volume is restored, thus reducing the need for the heart to increase BPM (pulse) to maintain sufficient blood flow throughout the body Thought it might be useful to mention this as many overlook blood volume when looking at electrolyte balance on LC, Keto, carnivore diets
Thanks so much for the information. The one thing that really sticks out is the stress factors. Having what doctors regard as low thyroid, no one, even the endocrinologist would even consider was the stress factor. My whole system basically crashed from the stress I was under for so many years. When that settled, I lost 15kg in about 2 months without doing anything. Was able to walk 3.5 kilometres per day. Then boom stress hit again and my system crashed again. After listening to this it really confirms all the research I had done about stress, causing so much issue. Thanks again for the information, will be starting on the carnivore way of eating as my systems seams so much better when eating just the meat and I do feel bad on the carbs to a certain point. And I love salt, I will definitely give the sole a try, cos I dehydrate and then crave salt. Learning to listen to my body much more.
One thing I never understood is if we lived on a carnivore diet for millions of years before agriculture how did we thrive without all this intense focus on every aspect of our macro and micro nutrient intake? If we eat as we were intended why would we need all this micro management of our food intake, makes no sense to me. I don't "manage" electrolytes. I just eat meat, eggs, water and salt. No supplements, no sprays, no drops, no worrying about all this stuff. Maybe I am just not stressed? If you re-learn to listen to your body it becomes a simple thing. Your body will tell you to eat more fat or more protein or drink water or add salt or not, no need to measure anything. It is not easy but, you have to dismiss all of our social eating habits and look at food as energy instead of entertainment.
I envy you in a good way. Some of us have been sick for a while and arrived at the carnivore diet with health issues so our bodies do not react as wonderful as yours when changing our diet so we need extra help. It will take some time but hopefully, eventually,we will be so lucky to arrive where you are. with this diet
Its because the soil has been heavily depleted of minerals due to industrial agriculture, plus we used to drink water directly from the ground wells and streams and it was full of minerals, its worth finding a good source of natural high magnesium water
My nighttime leg cramps were directly related to poor mineral absorption because of weak stomach acid. It took me so long to figure that one out. Too long. And this was many, many years before keto/carnivore.
I have heard by Andreas Moritz that low stomach acid is due to low liver bile flow (alkali) if the liver flows bile properly then the stomach makes more acid..
This is incredible information and superb timing. I've been trying to understand why I'm still salt sensitive even on ketovore and why I feel like I need tons and tons of potassium to thwart twitches, restless legs, anxiety, palpitations, insomnia... I know the K+ helps calm my adrenals so with this info regarding high stress and how it affects sodium tolerance- it all makes sense. I have CPTSD AND lipodema so between the two, I am really struggling being hydrated and not swollen!
This video is very helpful and simple, thank you. I get the occasional leg cramp but I do think it’s just the body working toward the balance it’s wanting. The body is very smart!
How do I know if I have salt sensitivity? I am having a terrible time with heart palpitations and increased body- 6 weeks in now- how do I know if it’s salt potassium or magnesium causing these symptoms
Hi Judy, Saturated sea salted water is referred to as Sole water. My ratio is 500grams of water to 100 grams of sea salt. I bring the water to a boil and add the salt. Then let it naturally cool to room temperature. This fills a 20 ounce mason jar. I then use 1/2 to 1 tsp of Sole water to 16 ounces of water. The apporximate amount is 1 tsp or 5ml of Sole water holds about 1gram of sea salt. I hope this helps.
I've had hellish problems with electrolytes, to the point where I nearly fell asleep while driving in the middle of the day with aches and pains all over, heart palpitations etc. Get the salt in and problems disappear in 10 minutes
So, I've been I would say Ketovore for about 10 months now. I stay below 20 grams of carbs per day, eat plenty of fat and mostly Sourkraute or Iceburg lettuce but mostly Sourkraute. My weight is idea for me at 185 at 5' 11". I went on this diet becuase of gout, arthritis and an enlarged prostate. By the way, i'm 61 years old. While I have been off gout meds for about 5 months now and have a marked reduction in inflamation and arthritis as well as no new injuries since I started this diet, (I play basketball 2 or 3 times per week), I recently noticed some minor edema in my lower legs down to my ankles. Since it's been 10 months acclimating to the diet, does that make sense to possibly utilize some electrolyte supplements? I did increase my salt intake when I started the diet and I didn't have issues until the last few weeks but am learning that too much salt with not enough Potassium can cause the imbalance. Just looking for any advice you can share.
I have recently been having high blood pressure and a higher heart rate after a year and a half on carnivore with a year of keto before that. I will give the sole water a try immediately. Thank you so much because it’s kind of scary. My blood pressure has always been perfect until now. I was just about ready to order potassium citrate today. Thanks for your perfect timing on this video.
Potassium I had same , I am low on Potassium, watch Dr Burg on Potassium also magnesium very important. I have stress so I require alot of Potassium more then what I could eat from meat. You need 4 pounds an day just to get our mim requirements of Potassium 4700mg. I use Potassium citrate power, no salt at grocery stores is Potassium citrate or bulk on Amazon. 1/4 teaspoon is 350mg , also watch the snake diet he teaches how to make electrolytes water. . Shalom
I had the exact same thing happen. Too much potassium made my heart race and blood pressure spike. I’m 18 months into carnivore and finally seem to be figuring my electrolytes out but it’s been a learning opportunity! I take 1/4 tsp Redmond’s salt, on my tongue and chase with water morning and evening; Eat potassium rich meat and broth daily and supplement with a lower dose magnesium mid day.
@@NutritionwithJudy yes. I been carnivore for 2 years because of allergies not by choice. Highly allergic to soy beans , lintel, grains , rice , and vegetables oxalate, been an long 12 year road. Many er visits. Your book has helped alot. I'm more lion diet sadly can't do herbs. I was low potassium 2 er visits to figure that out. Potassium citrate saved me. Magnesium Redmond salt always. I do mag oil also. Removing herbs was the key and all carbs and dairy, now I finally feel I'm healing. 12 years
@@becksbitofbluehello :) I was wondering how you are nowadays?…. I’m trying to figure out electrolytes and I’m currently having them daily, sometimes twice a day sometimes once… best of health to you! :)… I’m on full carnivore and loving it buut still transitioning from veg based lifestyle
I developed tinnitus eating carnivore and ketovore. When i was in the ER they found i have extra heart beat. Then 3 weeks ago i was in the ER again for having high heart rate of 162 while bp is going low 80/40, i was diagnosed having SVT. My calcium was also low 8.1. I am trying to eat more dairy, take vit d3 5000 iu daily with 100mg k2. Also i raised my magnesium glycinate to 480mg
Do you have any advice on tapering off electrolytes altogether? I've been manually adding it for years and trying to not be dependent on anything but food
Thank you! Great information. Also migrainers can react to magnesium supplements or spray with a spike of energy so be aware if using magnesium at night.
Great video . I have been struggling with this for two years after switching to a carnivore diet from vegetarian diet. I crave so much salt on this diet and I didn’t supplement exogenously for most of my time on carnivore but my body craves salt so much that I salt my food and then I pour salt on my plate and lick it off of the plate. I use redmonds and when i wake up every morning it looks like I was in a bar brawl that’s how swollen my eyes get. I don’t know what to do. It’s very frustrating.
Electrolytes are more than just sodium. There’s also potassium, magnesium, calcium. All very necessary and only salt is readily found and added. Try supplementing the others.

hey ... love all your info ! I grinded almost 2 cups of himalayan pink rock salt in 500ml of water stirring a lot, left it over night, all the salt sat on the bottom and the water is pretty much clear, is this right ? do you just stir it up when you want to add a teaspoon to my drinking water, or is this salt the wrong one to use for this ? thanx 😊
Thank you for this information! I woke up this morning with leg cramps and knew I was low on magnesium. However, it’s likely I was low on sodium due to drinking the night before when I wasn’t even thirsty. Would you also recommend only drinking when thirsty, or just try to incorporate more salt in general?
What about salting meat? I've come across a lot of debate on this. Some argue that most people don't get enough salt. Yet other people claim they feel fine when eliminating salt.
I’ve been using electrolyte powder for so long and fear going off it with me tendency to get leg cramps and the occasional horrific Charlie Horse! When I transition into Carnivore works like to get off them with your wonderful replacement ideas like sole water and magnesium spray. Is the hope that over time one can wean off those as well or if they seem to be helping is it ok to stay on them?
I haven't had problems with cramps or fatigue, but I've had heart palpitations since switching from keto to carnivore. The palpitations are so bad that I can't sleep well. I drink a lot of water during the day and have been supplementing sodium, potassium and magnesium. I'm definitely trying to figure out how to balance this out and get the palpitations to stop.
I wish I knew this. I would have done keto chow in the beginning. I started having heart palpitations and constipation so bad I’d cry. ( last night ). So today I’m going off carnivorish. I’ll restart tomorrow with more fat in my diets too. SO hope this helps. I already take magnesium at night but now I think I need more potassium. Hate swollen ankles and legs.
I just found your channel and I have been binge watching. I have been on the carnivore diet for a little over a year. I started it because of chronic migraines and food intolerances over the years. I have a really hard time introducing salt into my diet because when I do I wake up with itchy and swollen eyes and my eyeglasses are not sufficient to be able to read in the morning but by the end of the day I’m OK. Couple of weeks ago I tried reintroducing a very small quantity of Redmond salt again for a few days and I got really bad leg cramps which is the opposite of what I’m hearing. Could I be intolerant to salt or maybe it’s the kind of salt that I’m using? I eat only grass fed beef and try to eat as much fat as I can tolerate without getting body pain.
I’m not sure what Judy would say but several other nutritionists have said that symptoms like swelling ankles etc. when some people eat added salt isn’t because the salt is “bad” for you. They tend to say that the root cause is more likely dehydration. I would be certain that you’re following mineral salt consumption with enough mineral/electrolyte water so that excesses can be “flushed” out of the system.
I get confused about this. So an increase in salt is all it takes to balance electrolytes? What if your not getting enough potassium or magnesium from your diet? Then is it a good idea to take electrolytes? I very often have this tension feeling in my head as if there's a rubber band wrapped around my head it's alot of pressure in my head everyday. And I like salty food so I do salt to taste and take an electrolyte powder. I'm just not sure if I'm taking enough but I'm nervous to increase the powder and cause more imbalances
@@tweedpenguin712 it got better once I stopped the electrolytes. Maybe I didn't need them just trying to listen to my body. May increase my salt and start iodine again and see. Otherwise my energy is great my brain fog is still there but alot better and the head pressure has went down alot too
What about sodium from raw animal products? I have been eating only raw meat with zero salt (along with raw milk) and my electrolyte symptoms have improved (headaches, heart palpitations, faintness)
I’m now really questioning this diet as they need to supplement minerals. I’m going back to meat and veggies. I felt great and looked great eating some carbs and salads/fruit and veg with fatty meat. Never had to worry about electrolytes before doing carnivore.
I have never worried about electrolytes since starting carnivore, I don’t have any issues. I just eat bacon, steaks, eggs, cook in ghee, with a little cottage cheese and plain Greek yoghurt is my treat. No headaches, cramps or heart issues. I drink when I’m thirsty, I don’t add extra salt to anything.
Exactly. If you have to supplement then it’s not the ideal diet. this just proves how much we still need carbs. I introduced white rice back and no more palpitations.
@@tweedpenguin712... I'm feeling the same way I've never felt great since I started and it's been 7 weeks.... I've struggled greatly , this apparently isn't for me! I'm adding berries back in and cottage cheese and yogurt ❤!
Hello , can I grind Redmond salt to the powder or suppose to be solid crystals, and can I add to to the water iodine , potassium and maybe sodium bicarbonate? And how long water expires?
The problem is getting rid of stress. A stressful lifestyle is hard to just get rid of or find the route cause that's realistically avoidable. 😬 Sometimes life just do be like that sometimes... 😅
same issue here... although I make it far worse on myself. my brain seems to like to dwell on things that brig stress and over react to it. trying to unlearn that behavior but its taking a long time.
@@Jojo-o6o6w Ironically, I am listening and learning about "Limbic System Rewire." It is basically learning how to rest your mind from stressful thoughts and training your brain to remember not to linger unnecessarily on stressful things, unhealthy things, sinful things. But to abide in the Lord. It has been helpful to me, even the first few days of trying it. However, I feel like there is a great spiritual battling of the mind happening in our day and age. After a few days of trying it I woke up in such anger I thought the joy of before wasn't worth it. I felt defeated -- whenever I feel a small amount of joy, I'm robbed of it. But I woke up today realizing that the battle of my mind, my hope, my joy is truly one Satan wants defeated. There is something bigger going on. And I need to persevere, to watch and pray. To continue in hope. It surely is a battle, but it is a battle worth fighting for. I don't know if you're a spiritual person -- but I encourage you regardless. ❤️
Tis actually 3g of water for every gram of glucose. If you think about the formula, you won’t forget. Glucose is c6h12o6… break that down to one carbon (c2) three times, then you get 3 sets of h2o ;)
Mag spray makes my skin itch and burn. How long do I have to leave it on before I can wash it off? I have always taken 800mg of mag, I keeps me calm and helps me sleep. When I was tested I was low even with this dose. I have MS so I am not sure my body will have the ability to balance it self. I do not crave salt. I am not stressed. But I am back on carnivore and have brain fog and headach and very tired but not sleeping deeply. I have not been eating fatty meat becuase I am afraid to puke. The daily intake of potassium I really high and hard to get on any diet. The supplements are only 99mg so I don't see how anyone could easily overdose? What salt is recommended? I don't want to take a chance with pink salt. Which salt is least likely to have heavy metal contamination?
Your body needs magnesium in order for potassium and calcium to get into your cells. Your kidneys need magnesium to help reabsorb potassium and maintain normal levels in cell. Many people are deficient in magnesium. Until you get an adequate amount of magnesium in, your potassium and sodium balance will not be good. You need to have magnesium, adequate sodium and potassium every day in the correct ratios. Not just one of the other. Once your body has fully adapted this will calm down. If you become deficient this can cause heart problems.
Hi I am reading your book. I’ve tried the spray, soaking in epsom salt, and putting salt rocks under tongue. I’ve also been using LMNT in addition. I’ve had salt settled on bottom of my water bottle too. The problem is I don’t have a colon and am relying on my small intestine. I get nausea at night and am thinking that’s lack of magnesium. I was wondering if there is any other protocol for my condition to balance my electrolytes.
Thanks you for this video... I am just starting the Carnivore lifestyle. Question since I do want to experiment with keeping avocados in my life from time to time Avocados without the salt..... Does that mean if you are eating avocados, then don't salt your meat.... or just don't salt the avocado? Should meat and avocados be eaten separately, or did I totally misunderstand the message?
I've been asking these sorts of questions too.. trying carnivore for Crohn's n struggling (swollen, feet/legs n eyes atm & a horried coldsore! (stress?) 😢) I'm worried about adding in some fruit/avocado, will it mean I come out of ketosis n all the red meat n butter will then become dangerous n stick to raw arteries!?! Help guys!!
Judy I was keto and went more carnivore in the last few months but have not constipation but harder stools , tried magnesium, powders , but still same , is it an electrolyte imbalance ie low potassium?
I had a similar problem, but since I started having a cup of hot water in the morning with added 1-2 tsp MCT oil, salt, and cinnamon, I've been going more regularly. Husband found online that when you inject the mct mixed in hot water, NOT with food, the oil is absorbed into the stools. No more hard clay poops, just mousse-like mushy easy poo. So much better than constipation!! I use a frother to mix it. I've also been adding two raw egg yolks and froth. It's yummy. If you start with the water hot enough, it will cook the yolk slightly. Good luck. Start with a small amount of MCT to avoid too much gut rumbling or disaster pants!
??? @Judy Cho or anyone else that can answer i have been suffering with leg, calf and feet cramps terribly! What magnesium lotion does everyone find helpful and i made my sole water tonight. Also i read on your website ... Trust your body but if you feel a headache or muscle weakness coming on, take ¼ tsp of salt with water or under the tongue. I recommend my clients prepare sole water the night before. (see below for recipe). so is that 1/4 tsp of dry salt under tongue or with water?
For those who don't like clicking links, there is a source online that claims elephant meat his higher than beef in potassium, B vitamins, vitamin C, Zinc, and Iron (46% higher!). So... I would like to know the actual values. I emailed the author. I'll post her answer if I hear back.😉 EDIT, btw, I'm just curious because we apparently evolved eating elephants... and so we're adapted to the their nutrient profile (sadly).
Didn't work for me. This much salt without potassium sent my poor heart into severe palps. I am now taking an electrolyte drink, got my heart under control. I will slowly taper down letting my heart decide.
I tried taking the recommended 2tsp per day of sea salt, like Redmond, and my skin got very dry and flaky. I can't handle that much sodium without adding potassium citrate. Also discovered a need for calcium. That was the missing mineral that made me stop having serious calf and toe cramps at night and upon waking.
I'm so confused. In the video sodium and potassium adversely affect each other but in the sole article it's sodium and magnesium. The diagram doesn't show potassium and sodium being an issue. Am I looking at it wrong?
This is very interesting info! I am not carnivore but keto but was wondering about that high number of 4,700 mg of potassium that many on the internet say we all need. Is that 4,700 mg just the goal for a person on a SAD diet or do even people in keto need to try to get up there that high? I really don't want to supplement potassium on keto. And I love your intro music! It is so catchy! :)
You really do need potassium, but your levels need checked initially and routinely until you know how much you need. Hypokalemia can kill you, that's low potassium, as well as high can. I know two women over the years who have died from hypokalemia while dieting, though I don't know which fiet they were following.
I haven’t tried sole water, I am thinking I need to go ketovore for awhile, but I have also seen that I might not be eating enough fat. The migraine issue is serious, and seems to be associated with my bms not coming regularly. I didn’t know about the avocado no salt thing, I will try that.
So blood volume would be related to electrolytes but what about your water source and the minerals in the water? I keep aquarium fish and so have tested our local water to find it is almost without dissolved solids. I have leg cramps after 5yr lc. Water from the Midwest is often called liquid rock. Do leg cramps happen there?
Hello, I'm on day 9 of my carnivore journey and struggling a little bit. The first days were ok, had some diarrhea and then started pooping really hard stools. Days following that no desire to poop. Then started to feel nause. A few days after that I started having acidic diarrhea. Now on day 9 of strict carnivore, I'm up at 3am with acidic diarrhea and night sweats. I saw a video about this and it said that I'm either producing too much bile acid or too little or malabsortion. What could be causing this? When I was eating SAD I was not having bowel issues. I'm just a little concern because the acidity of the poop kind of burns me. Just concerned if I'm doing something to myself. Any advice on how to better my situation. At least until my body adapts to high-fat absorption? I dont know if Im eating too much fat in the beginning. I was never used to eat8ng fatty foods. Its a new transition for me. I really want this to work.
If someone listening lives in Southern Ontario,I would sure would appreciate help in finding electrolytes. Ones with the right balance and no sugar. Thanks
I have had a really hard time getting the right balance of electrolytes since going carnivore, and I think having CIRS with a low ADH had a lot to do with it. I'm taking a binder now, and when I'm on it, oh it is so hard to keep my electrolytes up! But when I take a break from the binder I have NO crampiness at all!
Were you able to go full carnivore successfully before treating CIRS? I have CIRS and will be put on a binder soon but I have never been able to go carnivore or low carb. Every time I try I get very very sick and can't push through it, constantly peeing cause of adh...
@@lyndseyvandenberg3030 I just pushed through it. I was full and mostly strict carnivore for over a year before starting CIRS treatment. I'm now tolerating the binders better but sometimes the low ADH is so annoying, having to get up to pee once or twice a night, and constantly drinking water. It's slowly getting better and I'm SOOOO glad I'm carnivore. I did make sure to lower my carbs gradually not jump straight into it. Just remove one carby item per week until the carbs are gone.
If I don't take at least 200mg of magnesium my body goes into deficiency after a few days... we have to see many things how much meat we eat and I only eat 1kg and then what activity do we do and I do very heavy work and I sweat a lot and then I live in Italy which is quite warm.... nice video greetings from Italy 🇮🇹
So if salting the avacado cancels potassium out is salting the meat doing the same thing???? Everyone is saying to salt your meat!! is this why i can not figure out my cramping.......
I love Judy's work and content but this time it doesn't make much sense I'm probably getting something wrong How can you get significant electrolytes from salt? Pink Himalayan salt has these value for 1 gram: Potassium (mg) 2.8 Magnesium (mg) 1.06 0 Iron (mg) 0.0369 0.01 Sodium (mg) 368 You would need to eat 400 gr to get the daily magnesium dose. I get that it's more of a supplement to the Diet but it's still not much Plus you would consume way too much sodium for just 20-30mg of magnesium
Seems like the keto diet and especially carnivore, use up a lot less electrolytes. So the recommendations are kinda useless, like 400mg of magnesium might just be 50mg, or 1000mg of calciu might be 100. There are plenty of people who do carnivore for quite some time without reaching the recommended numbers and seem very healthy. But i'd do the hair analysis test since maybe some people do weird type of carnivore where they eat just muscle meat, or too much liver or stuff like that and they go overboard on some type of nutrient
Now I know you can get your sodium from e.g. Himalayan salt, potassium from low sodium salt. What's a cheaply available source of magnesium electrolyte?
I've been cutting back on my salt because I'm super thirsty lately. My skin is really dry. I'm just dried out. I live in Indiana and have the heat on all the time. I have sole water but haven't been taking that either because of my inability to hold onto water. Any suggestions how to hold onto water? I'm taking the gut supplements and I eat about 55 g protein and as much fat as I can, which is usually 120 g.
@@NutritionwithJudy I should be 110, so I calculated I should be about 88 protein. Except my blood sugar has been high at about 103, since going carnivore. When on keto it was in the 70's. So I'm trying get it down and I increased the fat to protein ratio. Last night I had about 67 protein and my blood sugar this morning is even higher at 107. I'm not having any dairy or sweeteners, just meat and fat. Adding your gut supplements and iodine too. I do need to add more fish. Yesterday I did have some anchovies.
@@NutritionwithJudy It's working for now, but find every once in awhile I need to tweak or change things. Found that just because something works now, doesn't mean it'll benefit forever. When I first started Carnivore, I had a HUGE craving for pickle juice. Lasted about a week. Cravings stopped when I started using more Redmond salt. Had to add the K to balance. It's not carnivore, but the cravings were worse than what I had for sugar. I was clinically diagnosed with IB and Celiac so I'm sure I was deficient in just about everything. My before and 6mo. photos after starting carnivore are shocking. It's changed my life in EVERY way, so thank you for everything you've taught me about this lifestyle. I owe you so much!
@@NutritionwithJudy yesterday I increased to 82 grams and my blood sugar went up to 124 this morning. So after tracking this for several weeks I believe when my protein goes above 60 my blood sugar goes way up.
Damn, why have you gotta do all this just to be appropriately hydrated? I live in queensland australia where its hot all the time and I train strength most days of not every day. I dont even bother with sports drinks, I just eat something salty when I want salt and thats literally all I think about. Never have any issues with my electrolyte status haha. If I have more sodium then I need I get thristy and crave then eat fruit, water and pottasium promote sodium extrection and boom, back to baseline. I've done a full nutrient breakdown of my diet using foodworks version 10 and it has me at over 6g of pottasium, around 2.5g salt, 1500-2000mg calcium and 400-500mg magnesium and literally all I do is eat a medditeranian style diet.
I think in the sense that let's say you have a base of 50 units of potassium and 25 of sodium, so a 2-1 ratio. If you add potassium and sodium so you get to 100 to 50, the ratio is still 2-1 . Just like omega 6 and omega 3s, if we want a better ratio we should consume less omega 6 and more omega 3s. My opinion is that this thinking is flawed and we need potassium and sodium and the kidneys filter out what they don't need, just like omega 6 and omega 3s. Kris Kresser did a deep dive and turned around on his recommendation to lower omega 6s since he saw that omega 6 in the natural form ( seeds and nuts and other healthy foods ) are associated with better overall health and less morbidity. Pretty sure it's the same here with salt and potassium, just eat and your body will tell you when to stop, it's much smarter than our prefrontal cortex.
Would carnivore help with both IBS and Gastroparesis? Any recommendations on what to eat and what not to eat? I have a female friend suffering 15 yrs with no real help. She has seen countless specialists. Now she been talking about taking her life as living with pain forever is a option She not willing to do. I'm afraid I'm going to get that call. Even when she goes to hospital there is times she was sent home still in pain screaming and crying in pain.
I’ve been suffering from severe gout inflammation everyday after consuming my food for 15 years,IBS,gastric and constant mouth ulcer.I did 72 hour water fast and go into Carnivore diet after that. All my problems go away like magic after 2 days.I tried not controlling my eating and drink lots of alcohol to test if I’m really healed and guess what,I didn’t get any gout attack or anything at all where I used to flare up just eating rice or abit of sugar.Give it a try and hope it helps your daughter as well
I also watched a video a long time ago where Magnesium was mentioned as the best regulating mineral in such cases as low electrolyte patients in hospitals. But I also saw that procedurally its not normal to start of with magnesium. Weird.
Hi did you resolve heart palpitations. I have it too and was diagnosed with SVT. I am upping my magnesium to atleart 460 mg. I am using glycinate. Also I drink a lot of water with salt now.
@garyholiday7446 so SVT is supraventricular tachycardia where my heart rate was 162 even though I wasn't moving. I think I screwed up my electrolytes on this diet. Ketovore and carnivore. My calcium was low too 8.1 because I lowered my vit d3 intake and I wasn't eating diary. I'm taking magnesium glycinate atleast 400 to 500 mg a day along with drinking water 2 liters through out the day. Also put some salt under my tongue for sodium. My potassium is coming from avocado, meat or grapefruit. But avocado and meat should be good source. So far I have less palpitations and no SVT event when I ran on treadmill. Pls take care of your electrolytes and minerals so you don't damage the heart. My heart palpitations or heart flutter is different from SVT. So I have 2 different heart palpitations..
The part about people with migraines needing more salt blew my mind. When I cut out sugar and upped my intake of celtic salt, I completely stopped getting migraines - I used to get them daily.
Me too!! I suffered for 30 years before learning this! 😢
I am feeling exactly the same ! Any updates if the sole water helped ?
@@sarahlash8320 Hi lovely, it did helped me a lot. I also started eating a tiny little bit of half-cooked liver every three days. I encourage you to not give up on your health journey. Even if you out some days, get back on track immediately after, within your means. Courage
The testimonies of people who healed their illnesses, which are often way more severe than mine, have always motivated me to get back on track. Never give up!
Thank you for the excellent presentation! My cramps were gone when I stopped drinking coffee ☕️ and started adding more salt 🧂 to every meal 🥘
Very useful video Judy 👋👋
Blood volume is often overlooked in the electrolyte balance issue. Low blood volume, on any LC protocol, can often result in heart palpitations which REQUIRES increased water intake as a remedy
This issue may also require replenishment of vital electrolytes too BUT, it is by increasing fluid in the body, that blood volume is restored, thus reducing the need for the heart to increase BPM (pulse) to maintain sufficient blood flow throughout the body
Thought it might be useful to mention this as many overlook blood volume when looking at electrolyte balance on LC, Keto, carnivore diets
I did not know that! Thank you for commenting.
I eat carbs and it fixes it
Really thankful to have found this information. Thank you so much! Electrolytes balance is the only issue that I have had with going Carnivore. 🤗
Thank you! You are one of the hardest workers in this space. The amount of valuable content you share is incredible.
Couldn't have said any better myself 😁
100% No need to overcomplicate things.
How did you figure out that you had weak stomach acid? I’m wondering if I have the same problem. 🤔
I have heard by Andreas Moritz that low stomach acid is due to low liver bile flow (alkali) if the liver flows bile properly then the stomach makes more acid..
So how do you fix it?
I got rid of nighttime leg cramps by cutting out coffee 100%@@tweedpenguin712
@@tweedpenguin7121-2 tbs of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water to protect your teeth use straw.
You are the first person I have seen doing carnivore who has mentioned CPTSD.
Have you had any improvements in your electrolyte balance?
This video is very helpful and simple, thank you. I get the occasional leg cramp but I do think it’s just the body working toward the balance it’s wanting. The body is very smart!
Thank you Judy!! A wonderful presentation full of useful advice and facts. I have found this very helpful 😊⭐️⭐️
Love following you. I always learn so much from you. ❤️
How do I know if I have salt sensitivity? I am having a terrible time with heart palpitations and increased body- 6 weeks in now- how do I know if it’s salt potassium or magnesium causing these symptoms
Which magnesium spray do you recommend?

I got worse the longer I took magnesium my sleep was bad I was more irritable restless legs at night so yea 100% agree.
Hi, I’m the same, what was the solution for you?

Hard habit to break man , I’ve drank ahead of thirst my whole teenage years and still trying to drink only when thirsty
The problem with waiting until you feel thirsty to drink is that by then you are already dehydrated.
What about salting meat? I've come across a lot of debate on this. Some argue that most people don't get enough salt. Yet other people claim they feel fine when eliminating salt.
Is this an optimal diet if you need supplements?
Good question and no answer.
Oh my goodness, that painting behind you is beautiful. Did you paint it?
I’ve been using electrolyte powder for so long and fear going off it with me tendency to get leg cramps and the occasional horrific Charlie Horse! When I transition into Carnivore works like to get off them with your wonderful replacement ideas like sole water and magnesium spray. Is the hope that over time one can wean off those as well or if they seem to be helping is it ok to stay on them?
Thanks was really frustrated personally with this issue!
Are you still having palpitations?
I quit caffeine...coffee,tea etc...helped a lot
Thanks for this information, I will give the salt water a try and see what happens with my electrolyte balance. Much appreciated.
Ive been using aussie minerals in my water daily. No leg cramping at night.
Judy is the best.🥰
I wish I knew this. I would have done keto chow in the beginning. I started having heart palpitations and constipation so bad I’d cry. ( last night ). So today I’m going off carnivorish. I’ll restart tomorrow with more fat in my diets too. SO hope this helps. I already take magnesium at night but now I think I need more potassium. Hate swollen ankles and legs.
Are Redmond electrolytes a good product??
Thanks and God bless 🙏🌹💖
Great info. Thank You❤
What are your thoughts on using a supplement like Keto Chow? I'm curious if taking a daily minerals are a good idea.
U need more mineral salt. Not sodium salt. U need Potassium and magnesium
salt without potassium and magnesium causes troubles for me. I mix all 3 with water
I have the same feeling when I go carnivore!

Raw meat really?
Do you keep the salt water in the fridge or outside?

Tis actually 3g of water for every gram of glucose. If you think about the formula, you won’t forget. Glucose is c6h12o6… break that down to one carbon (c2) three times, then you get 3 sets of h2o ;)
How do you get sufficient potassium on Carnivore?
What did we do a thousand years ago to get electrolytes?
River water
I can’t find the magnesium spray that you’re recommending. Could you give me more information please?
Your body needs magnesium in order for potassium and calcium to get into your cells. Your kidneys need magnesium to help reabsorb potassium and maintain normal levels in cell. Many people are deficient in magnesium. Until you get an adequate amount of magnesium in, your potassium and sodium balance will not be good. You need to have magnesium, adequate sodium and potassium every day in the correct ratios. Not just one of the other. Once your body has fully adapted this will calm down. If you become deficient this can cause heart problems.
Always helpful.... thankyou

What if you don't sweat?

Didn't work for me. This much salt without potassium sent my poor heart into severe palps. I am now taking an electrolyte drink, got my heart under control. I will slowly taper down letting my heart decide.
@@davehart7943 No-Salt is potassium chloride; I use about 1:1 with Real Salt for cooking or electrolytes.

I can't handle that much sodium without adding potassium citrate. Also discovered a need for calcium. That was the missing mineral that made me stop having serious calf and toe cramps at night and upon waking.

Stephanie keto person says you don’t need that much potassium.
Dr. Fung says not to supplement Potassium unless you get your levels checked.
@@emh8861 Hey thanks for the response. :)
Paleolithic people were consuming 15,000 mg of potassium daily, according to stable isotope analyses of their remains.
You really do need potassium, but your levels need checked initially and routinely until you know how much you need. Hypokalemia can kill you, that's low potassium, as well as high can. I know two women over the years who have died from hypokalemia while dieting, though I don't know which fiet they were following.
Was there supposed to be a link for making mag oil
You’ll only overdose on potassium using supplements because of the free floating form used . Very difficult to otherwise overdose on potassium.
I haven’t tried sole water, I am thinking I need to go ketovore for awhile, but I have also seen that I might not be eating enough fat. The migraine issue is serious, and seems to be associated with my bms not coming regularly. I didn’t know about the avocado no salt thing, I will try that.
Is sea salt ok?
How would you interpret a HTMA where all mineral levels are touching the bottom or slightly below of the normal range?

I love Judy's work and content but this time it doesn't make much sense
I'm probably getting something wrong
How can you get significant electrolytes from salt?
Pink Himalayan salt has these value for 1 gram:
Potassium (mg) 2.8
Magnesium (mg) 1.06 0
Iron (mg) 0.0369 0.01
Sodium (mg) 368
You would need to eat 400 gr to get the daily magnesium dose. I get that it's more of a supplement to the Diet but it's still not much
Plus you would consume way too much sodium for just 20-30mg of magnesium
I take potassium supplements and magnesium before bed. It really helped me sleep through the night without having to get up to go to the bathroom
You may need more fat.
??? What about LMNT at one a day ?
Damn, why have you gotta do all this just to be appropriately hydrated? I live in queensland australia where its hot all the time and I train strength most days of not every day. I dont even bother with sports drinks, I just eat something salty when I want salt and thats literally all I think about. Never have any issues with my electrolyte status haha. If I have more sodium then I need I get thristy and crave then eat fruit, water and pottasium promote sodium extrection and boom, back to baseline. I've done a full nutrient breakdown of my diet using foodworks version 10 and it has me at over 6g of pottasium, around 2.5g salt, 1500-2000mg calcium and 400-500mg magnesium and literally all I do is eat a medditeranian style diet.
please explain how salt with avocado affect potassium/sodium (cancel each other out) absorption?
Judy Cho !! 😁😁😁😁
All my problems go away like magic after 2 days.I tried not controlling my eating and drink lots of alcohol to test if I’m really healed and guess what,I didn’t get any gout attack or anything at all where I used to flare up just eating rice or abit of sugar.Give it a try and hope it helps your daughter as well
So how do our ancestors carnivores survive without potassium and magnesium...if suplements not on earth?
I think this low carb thing is a scam
I say first and foremost the quality of meat is different
@@KenWang2 then why are you watching this video?
Soak meat in ocean water... Duh
@@ashleyhaley6322 because i want it and you?
The only thing I have wrong is heart palpitations…I’m still confused weather I need salt or potassium for that????
I had the same thing, magnesium helped me
@philthyphil3324 which magnesium and how much do you take? Thanks
I see that copper is higher then zink and iron in every client execpt client 3. Still the ratio seems off for zink/copper.
I lack potassium on carnivore can pink salt suffice?
I also watched a video a long time ago where Magnesium was mentioned as the best regulating mineral in such cases as low electrolyte patients in hospitals. But I also saw that procedurally its not normal to start of with magnesium. Weird.
Not eating so much protein that youre not waking up at night? On carnivore diet, please explain. 10:56
GNG is demand driven.
Heart palpitations, how do I fix those? I just started on day 4 I was feeling great but now I'm weirded out because of the palpitations
Hi did you resolve heart palpitations. I have it too and was diagnosed with SVT. I am upping my magnesium to atleart 460 mg. I am using glycinate. Also I drink a lot of water with salt now.
@@Jhadyspeaks what is SVT? Also will magnesium or did magnesium help and what kind of supplement did you take? Name I mean...
Why did my chloride levels go to high on the carnivore diet? Please help
🤔 Any ideas why magnesium oil actually CAUSES me to have cramps in the night??
If I’m not mistaken, a deficiency and an overdose can cause the same symptoms. Maybe you don’t need the extra magnesium.
