Desert: Water: Life: Samburu Safari: Kenya.

Samburu National Reserve is situated in a semi - arid desert region of Northern Kenya, not far from the Somalia border and is located in the
homeland of the beautiful Samburu People.
The life giving waters of the Ewaso Ng'iro River, the only waters in the region, makes it possible for life, in such variety and abundance, to flourish in this otherwise inhospitable country.
The desert blooms along the river banks and even without the wildlife this spectacular country is wild, fascinating and beautiful.
Our evening safari was so exciting. The beauty and splendour of the surrounding country, was only trumped by the privileged viewing of so many different species of wildlife in their natural habitats including:
the"Samburu Five", namely:
Reticulated Giraffe
Grevy's Zebra
Gernuk
Somali Ostrich
Beisa Oryx
These four mammals and one bird are only found in this desert region of Northern Kenya
All five are on the IUCN endangered list.
