Turbo Mazda Miata 0-60 MPH Acceleration at 9PSI [Binaural Audio]

  • Today I put my turbo 1.6L Mazda Miata to the test. I did 3 0-60 MPH acceleration runs to see what the car could do. This Mazda Miata has an open diff so it was not the easiest to launch, and it also was only running 9 PSI of boost. This turbo Miata will be tested again with more upgrades and more boost down the line. This Mazda Miata was turbocharged for a grand total of $1,200, and the whole build is covered in my build series, 2Broke2Boosted!

      If you have a rust free, low mileage NB my recommendation is keep it stock, you have a car worth a ton. I’d heavily modify a higher mileage one personally. Reguardless though, these cars are a blast and I love this setup!

      They're certainly not fast stock.. my friend's 1.8 ran a high 8 to 60

    • @Spocker93
      @Spocker93 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The 1.8L NAs and NB aren't that slow, but the gearing forces a shift to 3rd gear to get to 60 with everything being stock. So if 0-60 is the number you're looking at, then they seem a bit slower than they really are. I'm not implying that they're fast, but rather that 1st and 2nd gear pulls are quicker than you might expect.

      @@CashedOutCars I'm so confused. I have a basically stock 04 Nb that I've gotten a verified 7.3s 0-60 with the draggy... What's the difference? Besides power, I have the 5 speed so gearing should be the exact same.

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Location, tires, driver, etc. also NBs have 4.3 rear ends which is advantageous, I have a 3.9 in this now. Also youve got a VVT which makes more power and better torque throughout the power band than a 1.6

      I once had a 93 that was red under the black spray paint the guy before me put on. You own 93 and 96, which is better to drive? I had a friend who had a 94 when I had the 93, I don't know if the 1.8 liter is worth the heavier weight in the newer NA miatas. I dream of trying to make a miata super light, then add power, so the 96 would have all the crash protection ( weight). However, some of that extra weight in the 96 is making that 96 handle better/ be stiffer, than a 93. What's your experience in this regard? And when are you going to sell me your 93? Hahaha( kidding on selling, I'm not ready quite yet🙂)

    • @My68Tempest
      @My68Tempest 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 93 is an automatic and my daily go to work car. The 96 is a stick and I bought from a coworker for $300. It needs some work so I haven't been able to drive it yet but it's all there. It fires up with low compression on cylinder 4 the hot one. I will be working on it soon and at least drive around in my front yard a bit

      Thanks man! I’ve never had it on a Dyno, but I’d estimate 160-170 WHP on 9 PSI. I’d say closer to 180-200 now that it’s at 14 PSI or so. I’d love to Dyno it and see a real number on it

    I just receive a used turbo kit that came with a piggyback tuned at 211hp

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hard to say since I’ve never dynoed it (virtual or real) on this tune / boost level, but I’d estimate 160-180 wheel horsepower. It’s a pretty conservative tune still. I had a very hard time launching it with this diff and tire setup and a hard time quickly shifting to 2nd

  • @BigBenlolz
    @BigBenlolz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Shouldnt 9 psi be making a bit more horsepower? Could it be the intercooler, injectors or the self tune?

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      A stock 1,6 is just over 100 whp, with 9 psi (9/14) = .64 extra atmospheric pressure * 100 whp = about 165 whp. That 160-180 whp seems very reasonable, IATs are good, injectors have plenty of room left but the fuel pump doesn’t, and the tune is conservative but still pretty good. If it were a 1.8 it’d make a good bit more as well as spool quicker
