    I said it maybe too quickly on the video, but this chair is a prototype and isn’t for sale yet. They told me they’ll do a limited run in about a week of 20 to see if people are interested.

      Was going to ask if they did EU deliveries, but I noticed the link is .de, so I guess that is a yes :)
      It looks super awesome, and I too don't like the look and feel of the "gaming" chairs. The one I have now is just a "normal" leather recliner chair mounted the wheels of a offices chair, it was something a offices did for comfort, and there where a couple of those not used so I bought one. Way more comfortable than a normal gaming chair, but it's not build for gaming.

      They tend to try and force my huge shoulders forward when I sit in them. I used to have a DX Racer Tank for my massive big boned frame but now I currently use a Herman Miller Embody chair. It's very expensive but not as expensive as long term back problems so common to tall guys as they age.

    I've blown so much money on chairs that it's hard to justify again, cheap office, 2 race seats (one has vinyl or pu leather one makes you sweat more than the other and reflects body heat) and a steel case leap. I usually find my boney part of my bum aches and seats usually feel too firm. Something else that springs to mind is most chairs don't have an option to hold the seat base tilt at a desired angle only fully up or unlocked to rock, this is something most reviewers miss to comment on. Nice review and look forward to seeing updates on this even though I doubt I could warrent any further risk of wasting a lot on a seat I don't know if I will personally be comfortable on.

    • @Morphologis
      @Morphologis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Sorry yeah that’s a good point. You can lock the angle of the seat back at any angle you want. I’ve personally been doing that regularly.

      @@Morphologis Hi thanks for the response but i mean the whole seat as it rocks so you lock the seat base at an angle rocked back, adjusting the angle of the thighs just like in some more expensive cars. I've only had one seat like this which clamped the rocking action at what ever angle required, I'm not refering to the back rest. Many thanks.

    Being a fabricator & CAD designer, some things I've added and come up with for the sim rig I'm building which might be helpful are:
    Placement for Razer or other gaming keypads (orbweaver etc) behind the left stick at the base, tilted forward a little for ergo. This allows quick easy access to FPS/EVA movements, while being lower than conventional desk height. the Tilt helps comfort this. No need to swing in a keyboard on some flimsy floppy tray.
    My centre stick position is 2 piece quick release (no screws or bolts). It's a C channel that the stick is mounted to with x2 45 degree or steeper slots on both sides. the C is rotated 90 degrees and sleeves over a piece of SHS tube that has x2 through pins that locate the slots in the C channel. So you slide it over and the slots slide over the pins & pull it toward the SHS tube so there is no play or wobble. You just lift it up to remove and put it aside onto a second nearby SHS or SHS stand. Takes all of 2 seconds. I considered the hinged option but didn't want my VIRPIL sticks hanging at anything other than upright.
    My rig is made so that FPS, Driving, Flight & Space can be accessed with MINIMAL movement and very quickly switched between any combination (around 10-15 seconds)
    L&R Sticks swing out of the way. Centre Stick is quick release. Key and mouse is on a slide forward & back locking tray (900w X 450D sticks must be swung out to bring tray forward) Pedals are inverted and mounted. Left combo is on a swing away turntable with Left flight stick, Fanatec gearstick & handbrake. Steering wheel is just above the keyboard on a releasable mount and a quick release wheel so the base can stay mounted.
    A second mouse of the same model is also in the same position as the razer orbweaver but opposite side for super quick access if needed.
    This is a full sim rig though, not a chair =P

    Everything looks amazing! I'd personally like to see a locking mechanism to prevent the chair from turning and maybe have the side mounts flip down once you swivel them to the side to allow someone to scoot as close to their desk as possible (arm rests under the desk). Very nice review! Looking forward to see what Monstertech has to offer!

    Concerning the center joystick mount, they should really customize it in a way where you wouldn't have to "LIFT YOUR LEG UP" just to get out of the chair. Please notify them of this. Maybe the center joystick should have this sliding mechanism that goes down so I can sit down and stand up/leave the chair as you demonstrated in 5:48.

    Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for. My 12 year old $400 Ikea chair is starting to wear. I'm trying for a while to find something similar with narrow backrest for not bumping your arms, and this asymmetric reclining feature where back and seat move slightly different. This one you are showing here seems to have exactly that, plus the roller locks for using pedals (usually have a heavy box in the back of mine to not roll backwards :D ). Thank you so much. Oh yeah, and I'm also not particularly font of gaming chairs :D

    I love the look and capabilities of this chair. The price is high for a budget gamer but certainly not for a flight sim gamer as we tend to look at every piece of our kit as an investment. Flight Sim games are not generally games you just drop into for 30 minutes, we are in them for HOURS and like Morphologist, we often use them as office chairs as well. At least I do but not everyone is a software developer or an architect.

  • @richstiner7404
    @richstiner7404 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    1. The pneumatic cylinder is the part that always fails first on the chairs I use. Will yours be more robust or have replacements available?
    2. Instead of making the center mount a bolt-on, make it a drop-n-lock with "can't miss" guide system. Push a button, lift the center device.
    3. For the taller and heavier center devices, dual-axis articulation under the left or right lobe will allow the device to swing to the appropriate side and down, under whatever side devices are there. Making the mount position ambidextrous allows it to swing it in the direction needed for better balance.

    I'm kind of late on this reply but well done. I got a replacement chair as my office chair basically wore out and the racing chair within a week feels like I'm sitting on a brick so not a great feeling but I have it now and it isn't dissolving around me. I do worry about fake leathers because in reality if I like something I'd like to buy it once and use it forever, but I have never been very successful at that, well with the exception of some tools that have lifetime warranties because they basically don't fail. Thanks for the review.

    OMG. I was thinking $1000 chair. For sure a buy at $600. Have been shopping around for a chair for a year and a half and can't make up my mind. I do hope they have an upgraded model with gel infused foam. I actually redid my chair with gel infused mattress topper foam on my own and the difference is massive. It added a super soft layer on top of a heavy supportive foam under it as well. I am so glad I saw this. Was so close to getting a secretlab's chair. Another thing I would like to see added is braces for transducers. I have a buttkicker on my chair now and it adds a ton to my experience, but I do feel it needs a mount on the back of the seat as well. It loses the vibration there.

    Feedback: This is definitely the sort of chair I am looking for. Considering how hard it is to get hold of Virpil and VKB joysticks, us space and flight sim fans have shown time after time that we don't mind paying more for quality.
    The only part that concerns me is the "crutch gap" at the bottom. I feel like a bolt-on insert of "more chair" to fill in the gap would be a worthy addition, as I think many users wouldn't want something between their legs, including a gap.

    Looks like a great product! I am an IRL airline pilot, and I also play SC and flight sims as well. I spent $650.00 (which was a steal because they are usually at least twice that, or more) for a real Boeing 747 Captain's seat because of the issues that I had with office chairs and even gaming chairs. I have one suggestion for this Monstertech seat. I fly the Airbus A320 IRL, and one necessary adjustment for flying sidestick aircraft like it, and the F-16 is the angle of the armrest from fore to aft, i.e. elbow to wrist, allowing the wrist to be lower than the elbow. The armrests on this seat should really have that adjustability for the best, most complete support. The idea is to have the arms completely supported to allow for fingertip flying, not ham-fist flying. It really does make a difference in your precision, and is the way real aircraft are flown. Other than that one observation, I would say Monstertech has a winner! Thanks Morph!
    P.S. I would like to see a fabric option for the grey "Waffle Weave" covering that Boeing seats have. I really don't want to sit for hours on a fake leather covering that will make my posterior sweat. There's a reason cockpit seats are covered in fabric, not leather or leather-like coverings.

    • @Morphologis
      @Morphologis  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, taking a look at it, that probably would be able to be accomplished by just adjusting the modular mount to be just a little lower. The armrests are already pretty adjustable and plenty high (for me anyway), and so lowering the mount a few cm would put my wrist below my elbow. That's actually really great info! Thanks for the really informative reply!

    • @NegdoshaManido
      @NegdoshaManido 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Morphologis True that, sir! We do not have the option to raise or lower the stick itself in the real aircraft, so the arm rest and seat have to be the adjustable parts. :)

    I love the narrow profile exactly for the elbow reason, and the simple black aesthetic. The material choice is huge for me as I'm a bigger guy and need both the exterior and interior material to be durable.
    I've been pondering an upgrade from my current 30 year old office chair I got for free as a teenager when my dad's office renovated and gave everyone new chairs, so he "rescued" a few of the old ones from their fate.
    None of the current "gaming" chairs or high end office chairs have stood out to me, I'm used to the half-back design of my chair and really like the narrowness of the back of it for freedom of movement.
    Since most gaming chairs are about $400, I'm more than willing to pay another $200 for what looks to be far superior materials/construction, and built in mounting support, especially that center mount.
    Shipping costs will be a bitch, but amortized over 20 years of not having spent anything on a chair at all, it's not a bad value, especially if it lasts 20 years.

One problem I have playing Elite Dangerous and Star Wars Squadrons in VR is Rift S headset tightening knob gets hung up on the headrest when I need to look straight up. Leaning my current gaming chair back helps but also puts my arms further from the HOTAS. My wish would be a head rest that can be adjusted forward or back or just removable like the head rest in some cars. For non-VR like FlightSim(which will be VR) and Star Citizen this chair is fantastic.

    One thing I would suggest is the colour of the mounting brackets - perhaps some blueing or an anodised black finish. They look a bit 'tacked on' right now.

    Yeah, the center-mount crotch hazard will always be a concern in my opinion. Especially as someone who sometimes would sit in a chair unconventionally. This seems like a purpose-built chair, and from your description, is. Not designed to be a daily driver able to tackle a dozen situations well, but to hyper-focus on one and excel at it.

    Just to be clear, does the chair come with all of the mounts (right, left, and center)? And how do those mounts attach to various joysticks and throttles?

    I'll watch anything you puts out, Morphologis. Your videos are some of the best on youtube, imo. But this one was really interesting, product reviews are great and I trust your input.
    The chair itself looks great and, by the looks of it, it filled in a vacum in the industry, so here's hoping it only gets better from here on in.

    Sorry this is a long one. TL;DR I really like the look of the chair and I think Morph done a really good review of it.
    Well I have to say that this felt really well put together. First the aspects of the chair, its a prototype, Ok I'll take my pinch of salt.
    The fit and finish seem really nice, the pure black aesthetic is very plain and understated but the quality looked to be really good. The chair seems to be a really nice fit for someone that is taller, this is a big consideration for me since a lot of chairs feel quite small. The fact that both the back and bottom of the chair can move to accomdate longer legs is really appreciated. The neat Idea of removing some of the shoulder support to allow for the arms to move is also really nice. The mounting plates for the sticks and throttle seem really well done (it is monstertech lets not beat around the bush here lol) I like how the sticks are mounted directly infront of the arm rests as it seem like you get the support for when you are doing long stints of low activity flying.
    one critique I do have is that the mounting plate for the centre stick being bare metal makes it look unfinished. I get it, its a prototype so this is something that could be looked into i.e. powdercoating.
    Now on to the review of the video. I think you done a bang up job with this Morph! Honestly the presntation was well done and the major details and features were covered and presented really well just like a lot of your videos. I can only imagine how hard it can be to make a video of a chair since, it's a chair. I guess it's kinda like trying to review a wheel, sure somthings are going to be diffrent but you made a good case for all the cool features and the design considerations that Monstertech have made. Sure you had some slight hiccups in lines and it can be really hard to fix these while on film since its all or nothing pretty much.
    All in all I would seriously consider getting this chair now. I was maybe a bit skeptical as I am with most things that are getting to that sort of price range. I would like to see the finished product before making a final judgement but if it also includes the Monstertech mounting equipment that again makes this more appealing.
    Well I'll end this here but great video Morph!!

    An architect reviews a chair, this is good and the review was great. You noted all the benefits in design and have helped me consider shape and features in my next chair. Be nice if this one becomes available to the public and as part of their options for designing a rig on the monstertech website. which is still "coming soon" :(.

    Is is possible to rotate the arm rests? In the video it looked like the rests should be so your arms have more contact the rest when you have your hands on the sticks.

      I found that I don't use the armrests at all when I'm using dual sticks. Anchoring your elbows significantly limits your range of motion with the sticks. Take a look in any fighter cockpit and you will notice a complete lack of armrests.

      @@Ru5tbeard Hello, I have a question regarding dual sticks if you don't mind. What is the other stick used for it the throttle adjusts power and the stick direction?

    • @Ru5tbeard
      @Ru5tbeard 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DerickMasai where the right stick controls the ship's attitude the left stick controls translation, or movement through space. Aircraft only Vector thrust forward it only require one throttle axis. Spaceflight requires thrust on all three axes which the left stick provides perfectly. 6 degrees of freedom! Also the control binding capability it's pretty ridiculous. Last I counted I had 96 commands bound to those two sticks.

    Looks like there's some wobble up in the base stand. Pedal thingy for the center brackets would be cool too, though that might make it real tough to get in and out of, seems important for a sim chair.

    As a HM Aeron chair owner, I'm willing to spend the money on a good chair and am definitely interested in switching out for this if the build quality and durability is there to match the price. I've really wanted a chair I could mount my HOTAS to, but the ones that worked with available systems none met my standards for the price they were asking.

  • @alainkoningverdraag6698
    @alainkoningverdraag6698 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good idea and well executed. Though the current price for just the chair itself, as of 21 February 2021, is $846.83.
    When adding the attachments for HOTAS, or dual sticks, throttle, and so on, the costs easily exceeds $1K.
    But then, designing a chair which is comfortable, ergonomically adjustable, and very practical, is not an easy task.

  • @CarlosDeBernardMrAgapi

    the video was perfect Morph. i think for what it is and is unique on the market. The parts to put the accessories is secondary since is well layout and think. All comes to the chair itself, the foam, the leather and most important how is build. that will make the price.

    But what I miss is the option to lock its swivel capability. Like all other chairs I searched for no chair has this option which I think is so important, especially when used with rudder pedals. You mentioned the lockable wheels. Those are great, but the ability to lock this chair from turning would be a great addition as well.
    Kind regards,

The brackets on the arm rests, being able to change the the position of the seat and back is awesome! Finally! I had to resort to pulling a seat out of an old car because the market is flooded with nothing but cheap 'gamerz chairs' that all require sets of pillows and crap just to make them comfortable. The huge wings on the shoulders just make turning around in a flight sim (VR in DCS checking 6) a pain. This thing is a real winner IMO and I'm very interested. Good job Monstertech!

    Hay Morphologis, will you ever draw up a video centered around the importance of lighting in architecture? I’ve seen you cover the topic multiple times regarding the effects of the temperature of light as well as the use of solar light. I don’t know if such a topic would warnt an entire video, a video that other people may or may not be interested in, but the topic certainly intrigues me.

    A cutout or removable headrest would be nice. I often have my hair up in a bun (and so do female military users on duty) and tall chairs can be uncomfortable because I have to crane my head forward to avoid my bun contacting the headrest.

    All gaming (and especially sim) chairs in this tier should have a designed-in place to mount a bass shaker. On my last chair (DXRacer) and my current Secret Lab Titan, I drilled holes in the tubing to accommodate a flat board to which I could mount a Dayton Audio shaker.

    I swear, I feel like I need a second job just to be able to afford all the nice things to game in comfort.
    Still would be absolutely worth it, though. Has Monstertech mentioned what the weight capacity for these chairs is? Some of us fluffy gamers are tired of chairs that are either wholly unsuitable for gaming or can't support and eventually start hurting after a decent session.
