Thanks Atomic! I'm diving deeper into Star Citizen and plan on jumping into the DCS pool as well and am on the lookout for reviews like these before I make my purchases.
This is a cool set up. I know because I’ve been running a DIY version of this for the past year. I used monitor pole mount plates on both sides of my chair. The clamps designed to fit a pole of some kind can be forced to fit your arm rest. Once in place I put industrial Velcro on the plates and the bottoms of my Hotas to attach. For cable management I simply used duct tape and zip ties to route the wires underneath the chair and used a usb hub I got from amazon for like $10. $40 is outrageous. The mounts I used were $60 apiece. So my DIY system costs under $150 and, aside from the admittedly cool idea of a quick release system, is basically the same thing here. Furthermore if your computer case is easily accessible then you can unplug your usb 3 extension from the pc and wrap it around your Hotas when not in use. So there would be zero wires restricting your movement.
Urk! For 300 or almost 400 eros you could part together a manual stand up desk and then you could set your desk really low to use the sticks at a more ergo level and then youd have a desk you can adjust anytime to your needs as well as less wiring hassel.
Oh wow! I was just about to buy one of these. Thanks Grim Reapers, I now know if the money I had stolen from the Union Depository can be put into good use.
I just have the chair throttle mount which didn't break the bank. I've been trying to hack together a DIY chair mount for years and have spent more cash on failed half-measures than I ever did on the monster tech. Solid product.
I also own one of these. Great product. Note that a "cable management" kit alternative can easily be obtained from Amazon for a fraction of the price - that's what i did. $40 for a USB hub is insane.
For my DIY seat I used scrap 1/8” Baltic birch plywood to make two mounts clamped to the inside round arms of my office chair vertically. These extend past the front of the arms where I dadoed them into a 5/8” base for each Hotas, with a few vertical struts for strength. I added a touchpad mount on the right side for cockpit mouse controls (don’t have to lean forward). Total cost was scrap plywood, glue, paint, and some stickers for character (they looked like the tips of propellers in shape so I turned one into a P-51 prop replica). All cables are routed under the chair (with USB splitter mounted underneath) and terminate with a single cable on one side so I can exit the other side. Can’t post a photo here but would love to send one to Reapers for comparison review!
il lhave also a Monstertech Chair Mount for my VKB MCG PRo, Virpil CM50 Throttle an T1600m thats getting replaced by a Virpil Left Hand Constellation Delta and additional a Black Hog Controller Box ...all Mountet on that outstanding nice Crafted Chair Mounts. I have the Fasteners and the USB Hub. Its the best thing you can do for Hardcore Flight Siming and playing along casual Games...sure alot of Money..but seriously..you jast have to buy it one time and thats it, its build for the infinity :). If you Consider to Buy one you dont have headaches. Just Perfect!
Looks good. May i ask what lengths are the 2 lengths of extrusion (80x40)? Hoping to lower the costs as have a friend with some spare. Just wondering as can then just order the parts needed. Cheers.
I never mounted the arms in the first place... I could set up some old CS-601 cases (the best I ever had, and they've got the perfect size for this plus I can move them out of the way if needed) next to my chair and put any controller on them, including my trusty old FFB2.
I bought the desk mounts from them a while ago for my Warthog. Great quality as well. But be mindful that you need a solid table top for them, because I just bought an Ikea desk and the table top doesn't like the weight of the Warthog at all... You will need a solid table top made out of real wood, or denser plywood.
Thanks Cap for making that video. I thought about building something simliar a few years ago, never did it. The price is a bit too high for just a mounting system in my opinion. Hope to see more videos like this in the future! :)
Here the entire kit, including all the mounts and cable management, etc, is only $265. The only major add on is the full central joystick kit, which is $195
Great honest review. Very very good video, well done and thank you. It is a very expensive price for a way to bolt the WH to the chair, but I can see from your video there wasn't too much wiggle, it looked pretty solid when you moved the controls.

I've been wanting to find a "gaming chair" that allowed for the side mounts for the throttle and stick. I wish there was something available that didn't cost as much as my graphics cards and VR headset combined :)
Check out the Playseat Airforce Gaming chair... They are sold for $500US on Amazon, and have side mounts as well as a center mount which can be used for a yoke or steering wheel. www.amazon.com/Playseat-Air-Force-Flight-Seat/dp/B00BFW17EA/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=playseat+air+force&qid=1597078220&sr=8-2
Got the deskmounts for my hotas from them last year. Expensive but wonderful stuff. Though its also really annoying to reconnect the usbs when I re-mount them on the table. :D Also my old style vkb throttle is probably on the heavier side for its mount.. My biggest problem though is always the trackir cable getting stuck on the throttle or interfering with the keyboard.
Hey! Thanks for your review, really useful :)! I have two questions, would you mind sharing your thoughts? 1. Why did you decide to go chair mount and not table mount? 2. Does the fact that the chair can turn during flight, take away any immersiveness if you would compare it to al static table mount? Thanks in advance!
Hi, 1. I thought the desk mounts would be more annoying with the chair swivelling. I am still interested in trying those out too for a comparison. An advantage of the desk mounts is I believe they come with a qr lever built in via default, making it easier to store them. 2. I thought the chair swivelling might be irritating, but I don't really notice it. It does make it difficult to get myself centered for my head tracking. Once I'm flying my feet are on the floor or pedals which usually keeps me pretty stable.
Thanks for the review. I literally can't buy this as it's way above my paygrade. However, it's concept I think is easy enough to copy and replicate if you have access to aluminium workshops, CNC machines, and a screw shop.
You wouldn't want the stick positioning to be in between the knees like a real aircraft? I guess that would make mobility a bit of a pain to get in and out of the chair, but not too much.
Not all are like that, the F-16 being a notable exception to the common center-stick configuration. The rest of the planes we have in DCS are centersticks, yes, but it seems the side stick is becoming more common (F-35 for example being a side-sticker)
Great stuff, i was about to build my own to use with my VR headset, and now have an example to steal measurements. Rotating the chair to check your 6 is a welcome addition for old farts like me.
I simply tied my throttle to my chair with paracord and it hasn't moved or gotten loose in months. Stick is screwed into a wood board that sits in my lap. Cost was free, and side stick sucks.
Great vid and nice chairmount...but the pricetag is...not from this world...i would consider it for max 150 €...otherwise i would build it myself if I really want it...
Just looked it up. It's pricetag is now 260,- BUT only if you have a chair which needs The universal baseplate (e.g. Ikea-chairs). If you can do without the baseplate, it's 91,- for the stick and 91,- for the throttle...that is more like it for me...stuff looks pretty good and well thought out...will have a look At my chair if I can use it without the universal baseplate...😉
Too bad they don't have a wireless dongle kit like microsoft makes for its xbox one controlers. They work great but then youd need wireless trottles and sticks. 😅
These look great but the price needs to be cut in half. We’re paying for like $20 worth of materials, maybe 80 man hours of 3D design and testing of the product and the rest is pure profit to the company.
@Rick O'Shay I prefer to call it sucker-based pricing. The cost of entry for DCS is high enough as it is. And while I realize that the demographic that DCS attracts tends to be mostly males in their 30s-50s who generally have higher incomes, we're literally talking over $400 for sheets of metal with holes in them and some bolts that anyone could get at the hardware store. Just saying.
Rick O'Shay you seem to be exceptionally triggered by my responses. What skin do you have in this game? Do you work for the company that makes this stuff or something? Because I can’t imagine anyone else defending the cost of this to the lengths you are.
True, the lack of competition gives Monstertech the ability to price their stuff however they want. However, they do produce some quality stuff and it doesn't look cheap to make.
Nice review. I'm in a similar setup, however, I think the future of plane sim experience would be from something like YawVR: th-cam.com/video/xrNbELCP1E8/w-d-xo.html I'd probably be looking at motion simulators in 5-10 years myself but might be interesting for others who value high immersion when playing
... i made this.. for my chair.. with plywood... cost ~20€ .. time spent... 1 hr.... = why pay 300€ o.O (exact same chair... removed the armrests... fastened it to the armrest screwholes... #perFect.)
Well done video Atomic, very professional.
Indeed it was. Great product review. 👍👌
Thanks Matt!
Awesome Job Atomic. Well done. Proud friend moment
For that kind of money, that hub and quick release should be included. They look great but that price is ridiculous. I'll stick with my desk.
You can check out the Foxx table mounts they are 175$ but table mounts are a game changer
These are a lifetime purchase.
This is exactly what is needed for VR. Awesome stuff.
Thanks for the review Atomic, very clear and comprehensive. Nice work!
I've got the desk mounts with the extra add-on for the MFD's. Also very happy with. It's pricey, but good quality stuff.

Have their desk mounts for warthog hotas. Super high quality kit so sorely tempted by the chair mounts.
I just use a lower table and ripped the arms off my chair so I can sit closer. It was free.

"cable management" USB hubs come very cheap and in all sizes on sites like Amazon and AliExpress. You have tons of options.
I agree, but if i wanted an off the shelf option and wasn't a tech wizard it'd be easy to order the wrong one or short cable or whatever.
MonsterTECH stuff is great.
Fair review, but is there a better alternative for a chair mount system? I'm looking but haven't been able find one.
how did you get it to work with your markus chair? i bought one and recived it today , but the screws are not long enogh to connect it with the chair.

Yes cup holders😎
Valid objection. Totally useless at least for a Brit who needs direct access to his teacup :)

Someone told me the pilots in F 16's have arm rests for their right arm custom made. True or false ?

So it's a German company? Then it will be a even shorter distance then Germany and U.K because I'm from Sweden.

Agree, great setup but the price is just too steep for some aluminium and screws.
