Used your hack today...amazing results, I bought the 5/8 hole saw and taped it to a 17mm socket and added a extension and hooked up the drill and 10 seconds the bottom of the boot was on the hole saw. Great advice...saved me a shit tonne of work.
Thank You for posting this! I changed plugs in the 3.5 Ecoboost for the first time last night and this happened on plug 5. I fought with it for an hour before finding your video. Never did I think I'd need a hole saw to change plugs, but here we all are. I've replaced deep well plugs in a Tacoma, Tundra, Sienna, and Rav4 and never ran into this problem. I'm glad there are people like you out there who help.
You can also take a deep 3/8 drive 7/16 socket on an extension and press it into the stuck boot. Press hard enough and you'll hear a pop and it'll come out with the socket. Did this yesterday on a 16 f150, 150k on original plugs. All six boots stayed on the plugs, but using this trick I saw on another youtube video, they all came out. None were even damaged.
Caution! I would only recommend this method for experienced mechanics! Drilling a hole saw bit down the head/ spark plugs hole is asking for other costly damages if not done with the proper size/ diameter hole saw "tool rig up" and if you don't have a high pressure air compressor and air blowout gun to remove all the rubber mess you're definitely going to have, I suggest you spray some penetrating oil on and around the stuck boot and work around it with either a small pic or coat hanger. Then with either a hook pic or a coat hanger bent to a hook shape or an l shape try to get all the way to the bottom of the boot by pressing down on either of the hook tools and try grasping the rubber and pulling it out that way. Works great and you don't have to worry about damaging your head with a hole saw lol.
I was thinking the same thing. You don’t want to use a hole drill bit around the spark plug threads on the head gasket. You could very easily strip the threads on the head gasket,or the plug bolt and you will not be getting that spark plug out! Take your time,using your picks and brake cleaner spray. Coil over plugs can’t be rushed.

Guess who didn't put boot lube on boots after putting in new wires. Time to start the rebuild to give to the Grandson when 7-8 yrs. I feel you on all the crap I've purchase to try and get them out. But now I have all those picks sets ,tweezers, needle nose plyers and assorted BEST penetrating solvent to add to my tool box.
Ran into this issue today on a 2013 F150 5.0 was using needle nose pliers and that worked on like 4 cyl. Then they started coming out in chunks then I used a 90° pick and that kind of worked on the 8th cylinder the firewall was in the way I used this method but with a harbor freight kit and electric ratchet 9 mm wobble socket did the trick

That worked like a dream especially on the back cylinders on that Triton motor that are a **** to get to that whole saw just ripped that crappy rubber right out of there thank you very much merry Christmas to you And actually it was a 7/8 whole saw that worked I think you said 5/8 in the video
I have a 2003 F150 4.6L and the rubber broke off the old coils around the spark plug. I spent several hours trying to fish it out with wire hanger and other tools but was unable to. After searching on amazon for a long and skinny needle nosed pliers i ran across a different tool that when i saw it i knew right away this would work. It was a 10inch alligator forceps like what doctors use. It literally took me 5 seconds to grab it and pull it out. Now i have a new tool in my kit. I hope this helps you guys. :-) Note: If you put enough dielectric grease in the boot opening of the coils and around the ceramic part of the plugs it should be easier the next time you service it.

Hello sir, i HAVE A LEXUS RX300 2001, I may want to ask you, the spark plug boot wore out but the problem is , the boot got cut almost in the middle where I can't get it out no matter what. the part where the hardest part of the plastic siezed inside. I lubricated it , tap it with long screw driver, I drilled it . but it won't even moved. I'm stucked. What is your suggestion to solve this? Please help. your Avid fan Joe. I'm not a mechanic but I was able to remove the the plenum , and etc. I don't eve know the names. and the problem is the # 3 spark plug . Please help. Thank you in Advance.
Changed plugs at 60k 3 times and never had an issue. Waited until 75k and the first two separated feels like they all will be a problem. 2015 with 255k miles still original timing chain.
Lol I just ran into this issue just this morning and it's my only vehicle. Don't have the replacement rubber piece so I only got to cyl 1 and shoved the spring back in and shoved the coil back o and no I hope I don't get a bad mis fire
This is an awful solution. It’s messy and it doesn’t guarantee that the area is going to be completely completely free of debris. Get black silicone and put it around the rim of the ignition coil. Stick it down in there over the plug and twist the ignition coil a bit making sure it seats. just the extra pressure of having the black silicone in there may provide you with enough friction to properly remove the rubber boot. If that doesn’t work, let it sit overnight until the silicone hardens and yank it right off.
I have a 3.2 Jeep that the very bottom of the boot is still in there after 2 hours. I may have to give this a whirl tomorrow. I came inside so pissed my head was about to explode. Lol
Holt anti seize!!😮 New spark plugs have a coating from the factory and DO NOT need anti seize. This is a fact and not my opinion. Spent many hours on the dyno and had all kinds of grounding issues caused by anti seize. Old school shit that has no place on a modern plug.
New plugs are not coated with anything other than the same zync coating thay have used sens the 50s. If you had all this experience you would know all about 5.4 spark plugs sticking and braking. The ford service procedure calls for antisieze. Just because you have been doing something wrong for 30 years dosen't make you an expert

Wish I would have seen this before I destroyed 2 of my boots with long needle nose pliers. I did get them out, but not before ripping them.

Agreed I have a 2016 5.0 , stupid ass design but typical Ford. Make something that self disassembles inside a deep tight hole. Nice fix!!!

Little bit of wd-40 and needle nose pliers does the trick with out potential damage spark plug well... bad "hack"
