That is too old to be skating. Your body is already shutting down. Your bones are becoming more and more brittle. If you fall you will likely break something and paramedics may not be able to extract you from the ice, meaning you will have to be physically dragged to a point where paramedics can safely extract you. If there's a stair or something your gonna have to be lifted over that with broken bones. The rise in heart rate from that may cause a heart attack. I mean when I tore my ACL playing tennis I had to fight to stay awake, I was gonna pass out. I did manage to beat I think it was No. 1 in the state, not in that match obviously, I mean he beat me like 50 times we played and I beat him once... but that one victory.
It's never too young/old to Ice state, in fact there's a 2yr old girl who is a figure skater and a 90yr old lady who says that it's easier than walking and skates every day, so its never too late if you have a passion
I'm 20 and I'm starting classes in less than a month. Ive heard from people close to me I'm too old, but I do have the passion for it so I'm gonna try my hardest anyways :) I think about skating pretty much everyday so I can't NOT do it EDIT: It's almost November now and I've been having lessons with my private coach and we're working on jumps and spins! If you're older don't give up! You can do it, if I did anyone can :)
I started when I was 10 and I've been skating for 3 years and I'm on a synchro team and I do competitons, you'll get to a certain level at some point but just remember when you want to quit think of why you started lol
Whenever I get an injury, people think it was on the ice. Like one time I sprained my ankle off ice. I had to explain I was being really stupid and clumsy and it is difficult to injure your feet in skates
Oh ma I feel yea.... .everytime I get a bruise on my knee "Skating right?" LOL I actually did manage to sprain my ankle TWICE while skating! The worse.
Sopue I almost got a concussion and a sprained arm from back crossovers. And I did a big flip jump landed perfectly into a beautiful spiral as I was stroking out I fell and got bloody elbows and a bruised knee:/
I've gotten injured on the ice before, but mainly just bruises and sprained wrists. But I do get bad bruises on the front of my hip bones if I fall forward and don't catch myself. Hopefully if I gain some weight there will be more padding there to protect me!
I really appreciated the part where you explained what part of the blades you're supposed to be on. I've been skating for ages, so I know this, but basically no other beginner's tutorials mention this. Thanks for sharing!
I only have a year of experience on the ice, but I usually think I know quite a bit about the basics. I was surprised she shared so many helpful tips I hadn't thought of!
I'm 60 and started ice staking for first time. Thanks to my granddaughter who started and encouraged me to do the same. I been using youtube videos like yours to get ideas on what to do. So thanks it has been helpful. I found your video that explains the curvature of the blade helpful. So with that, trying to skate backwards as well. It hasn't been easy and progress is slow, but having lots of fun. Always looking forward to the next time to get on the ice.
I’m about to start figure skating at the age 20, and this really helps. I was supposed to figure skate when I was a lot younger, but our local rink had mine subsidence and was no longer able to be used so I switched to cheer. Now that we just built a new rink, I’m so exited to be able to start doing what I’ve been wanting to for a long time

1.) Watch Yuri on Ice 2.) Be inspired by Yuri on Ice 3.) think about going ice-skating 4.) forgot you absolutely can't skate. 5.) result in TH-cam tutorials..
I'm a figure skater but I still watched this :) Great job on explaining the basics! Also..... slipping off from your heel when skating forwards is the WORSE
hi there! I've been learning how to ice skate since a month ago haha but still learning swizzles hahaha I'm a little old (23) but totally understand the magic of skating! I have great times just thinking how much it is to move on ice and how I can do it now alone...took me the whole month to leave my Trainor's hand hahaha but I think I'll love doing this for my whole life...not as a pro like you but as a personal happy activity to make me smile once in a while ;)
New drinking game: Take a shot every time you see a comment about Yuri On Ice. I love the show, but Jesus Christ, stop spamming every video on TH-cam about skating
If you had more brain cells you would tell that her account is about skating and I love it cuz I am an ice skater so if you don't like all her ice skating videos then go to a different account and leave TH-cam she's not spamming it's just she loves ice skating and likes to make videos about it
Brazillydance Brazillydance Are you insane?!😂 no one ever landed a Quad Axel, Imani can’t do a triple axel, no one does those in the girls intermediate level, no one does a SINGLE LOOP in the intermediate level, + you are required to do 3 combination spins in the intermediate level so she would have to do them ANYWAY please get your facts
I figure skater and i have Edea overture. I'm always looking at others and i think "I'm too fat" or "I'm never going to be that good" but you inspire me 💖 thank you 💖
I just got BRAND NEW skates and I vlogged it and I'm still freaking out about how amazing it feels to have better skates!!! I'm not a complete beginner, but this video had a lot of good tips on the basics that I'm going to keep in mind. :)
Katie thank you so much for the tips!! I take skating lessons about 2-3 times a week, and sometimes it is nice to get skating advice from someone other than your coach!!!
I love this video! What a lovely young lady & great teacher ❤️ I’m 34 & have started lessons with my daughter of 13 & we’re loving it!! My legs are already toned & feel stronger, Never too late to learn a new skill x
Thank u for the inspirational words at the end 💖 I tend to have a lot of self doubt and my friends and family aren't all that supportive of me, but I'm very passionate about skating
I got my first pair of proper ice skates today (i used to have the adjustables when I was little) they’re 2nd hand Graf 500s. Thank you so much for inspiring me to rediscover my love of ice skating, I will definitely be using these tips when I go skating later.
I’m turning 28 this year and just started my first skating class 3 weeks ago. Some of my classmates are over 50. So don’t think you’re too old to start this :)
Just started skating!!! Ive wanted too for 7 or so months now, but sometimes I feel that I am too old! All I have to do is remember the beautiful feeling that I get on the ice and that keeps me going no matter what happens!
Thank you for all the great advice! I've watched all of your figure skating lesson videos and you're a great teacher. I was wondering if you could do a video on the very basic moves like spins, going backwards and crossovers? I have a hard time teaching myself these moves and think it would be great to have your expert tips!
I'm 28 years old and I'm just getting back into ice skating. I competed back when I was 12-17 years old and had to stop due to an injury. You are never to old to skate, I'm getting back to it because of how much I really enjoyed the sport.
I really love skating, the few times I've gotten on the ice I've been scared to actually try. But I have a feeling that the next time I get a chance to skate I wont be so scared. This video really helped! Tusen takk!
Thank you so much! I have always had a love and passion for ice skating, but never had the opportunity, since I live in the desert. I hope one day I will, though!
I haven't been on the ice in 4 years and tomorrow I get my new skates so I can get back into it! Thanks for the tips Katie! Hopefully these will help get me back into the swing of things!
Hi I just wanted to say thank you so much for that it was really helpful : I just started lessons and I would like to become a figure skater but I was scared i was too late and that little message at the end gave me hope ! Love yooou 🖤
Me and my best friend are starting to get into skating a lot recently and ive always enjoyed watching it and going skating as a child for fun. I wouldn't mind trying figure skating as it seems like so much fun and its a side hobby that I can have when im not busy.
Thank you so much for making this video! I went ice skating once, and loved it (Even though I was a wobbling mess) and I really want to give figure skating a try.
I’m a little past this, but I really do think this would help me. I love ice skating so much. It’s so progressive, which makes it really fun. I’ve been learning so quickly.
Coming back after, starting lessons a few weeks ago in Basic 5 NEVER too late! I am 14 and doing it FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!!! I plan on starting to making skating videos tommorow please watch them it would mean the world to me!
This was super super helpful! Personally, the T stop is easier because I've noticed the snow plough stop tended to make beginners tip over and get caught on their toe picks
I want to do figure skating but scared of the ice. This video helped but I'm wondering if I go to a figure skating club will they teach me how to ice skate?
Every beginner figure skating class teaches you how to ice skate at first. When I was starting, I couldn't even balance on concrete XD but now I'm fluent in skating, I actually find it easier then walking tbh X3
Aiumfi Penguins a lot of people are scared of falling when they first start and that's okay. But after a few months you become more scared of killing small children
Thank you so much for this! Me and my daughter (much older than in the profile pic, don't worry!) have been skating for 14 months now and it's still super helpful! My little one also love loves loves your makeup tutorials :)
Thank you so much for this video! I have wanted to start skating since I was very young.. but I was always discouraged by friends and family, so I never started. But now I am at college and a new figure skating club has started so I signed up! I m TERRIFIED because I have never touched the ice.. but I need to at least once! I think this really helped me! Thank you so much! I'm definitely subscribing! ☺️
Thank you so much for this video. I start lessons at the end of the summer and I'm super excited for them. But I'm also very nervous because I've just recovered from a major hip surgery from last summer and my mom and I are worried about me falling on the ice. But other than that I'm super excited.
Great video! I never had the occasion to have skating lessons as the ice rink is too far from where I live but I'm fond of this sport so I go skating on my one almost everyday during winter holidays. Anyway I knew most of these tips but honestly the most helpful tip was how to position the ankles as mine always always tend to bend in. Anyway could you do a video explaining how to do more "advanced" things like easy spins or jumps? Greetings from France
Tara Duncan for sound and jumps you really need a coach also before anything crossovers good edges and 3 turns are a must have you considered artistic rollerblading? It's slightly different but you would be able to practice everyday
Im 14, and i only started basic skating a few months ago. I'm always worrying that I started too late and that I won't be able to skate professionally, But as i'm passing the basics im starting too feel more confident that one day i'll be there, and that you're never too old to start.
Really love skating i did figure and ice dance for a good few years when i was at school and. started taking my granddaughter every week unfortunately i did a spin thinking i could still do it well when i came out of it i was so dizzy fell and broke my wrist i did go back but my confidence was gone still have brand new skates but maybe i should forget skating am 62years do u thing am to old
I’m getting new skates on Tuesday there from Jackson custom made I have the soft covers the furry one. I can’t wait!! There white and I’m a beginner so the first time I used rental ones they were so bad..! I fell due to it being so stiff so that’s why I’m getting my own! I’m 12 btw I never took lessons lol.
I'm starting soon, in about 2 weeks and I'm so excited. I've wanted to start since i was 7-8 but my parents thought it was too dangerous for me. I'm thirteen and my mum said I can start so I'm really happy! The oldest person that started learning to ice skate where I'm starting at was 64 years old so my mum's learning with me too. C:
YOU REALLY UNDERSTAND US IM SO HAPPY XD!! I nearly want to cry :'). And btw, thanks for your help I really appreciate it and I wish I have a sister like yoouu omgg T^T
im still really young, turning 16 this year. i have a really bad knee and some hadk issues but im still going to try my best to learn! i am going to take all your advice, thank you !
Hey eye Katie I just wanted to tell you you're my favorite TH-camr and I'm really excited tomorrow is going to be the first day I get to wear my. New edea piano ice skates i love all of ur videos
The icerink i go to for my classes has been closed for two weeks ;__; but tomorrow i will go back again hopefully! i'm so excited i learned new things with this video, thank you
Love this video, could u please do some more such as basicish turns and jumps cause I used to do ice skating for years and got good but stopped and didn't go for ages but I'm tryna start again and reteach myself, thanks 💜
I am 24 of age and I just started skating (literally I spent 5hrs only, in total) in the ice. Thank you for this tips, I hope you can do more videos for beginners (in skating).
Good information for the beginner. I've never skate for whole of my life that's because I lived in tropical country, Indonesia, so I hope someday I can learn directly and practice it. thank you 👍👍
I am/ was a competitive irish dancer and am kinda out of classes and pretty much everything right now. Ive been wanting to try skating for a while since i went once with a few friends. i want to take lessons and stuff and maybe get good enough to do it competitively. I think im a little too old to start something new though (almost 17) but i hope that my dancing background and strong ankles will help.
Katie, can you do a video on stopping? I feel like I have watched a million and I still can't get it lol, but I really like your teaching style so I was hoping you could do one! I just started skating for 2021 and I am turning 30 this year!!
my city has just one please to do ice skating, and my mom can't pay for my lessons, but now I can start to learn by myself thanks to your videos Thank you 😀😊
Nam Phuong Tran for walz keep you body straight in the air and keep your arms rounded around your chest For half flips make sure your not slamming the toe pick in the ice and bring your feet together quickly
I started rollerblading at a rly young age so it helped when I first skated because I at least have my balance worked out. The difference would probs be the friction on the side, you can’t rly go against the rollerblades cuz it ruins the rubber but with skates you can (I believe with the turns and spins) so for anyone who wants to start skating but don’t have access to a skating rink, rollerblades is a good beginner.
Thanks Katie. I started learning to skate at 71 and am now 75. Progress is slow but I'm still plugging away.
That's awesome!!!
wow nice job

Clawr Lemon My friend cut open her hand trying to do a inside 3 turn. :(
she should make his into a small series. like other beginner lessons. like how to do this or this
I really appreciated the part where you explained what part of the blades you're supposed to be on. I've been skating for ages, so I know this, but basically no other beginner's tutorials mention this. Thanks for sharing!
I'm already a figure skater, but I feel kind of uneducated. Hopefully I learn a little something :)
I only have a year of experience on the ice, but I usually think I know quite a bit about the basics. I was surprised she shared so many helpful tips I hadn't thought of!
Elizabeth !! I'm in intermediate but my coach is teaching me a jump you learn in free skate 1-2 yayyy 😁 😊
I'm in freestyle 2

I'm starting lessons in April, only a few weeks before my fourteenth birthday so these tip are greatly appreciated for someone who doesn't want to completely make a fool of themselves.
Jayden G. I
Jayden G. I started iceskating lessons a bit after my birthday and that was last year and I’m 14 too
When I first started learning, T-Stops were way easier than snow plows (at least for me)
John Deux ikr! The second time I went ice skating I was able to do t-stops and not snow plows
can you do a beginner plus video ? like, first jumps, one foot spin, and some moves like this
1.) Watch Yuri on Ice
2.) Be inspired by Yuri on Ice
3.) think about going ice-skating
4.) forgot you absolutely can't skate.
5.) result in TH-cam tutorials..
Snazzy Cookie the story of my life 😭
Snazzy Cookie same, I never NEVER step foot on a ice skating rink in my life but now I want to.
Snazzy Cookie pretty much
2nd time ive done this...what has this come to? im actually going ice skating on wednesday so i hope i wont fall onmy face XD
Snazzy Cookie me
Damn yuri on ice what did you did to me
I'm a figure skater but I still watched this :) Great job on explaining the basics! Also..... slipping off from your heel when skating forwards is the WORSE
cleicsioluek same I'm a figure skater to and she did a good job explaining everything
cleicsioluek And catching the free skate's toe pick when gliding is terrible too
Especially when it's on a forward spiral..... been there done that XD
Slipping off your heel? Oh my gosh, I've never done that but it sounds like a concussion waiting to happen! New fear
Basically when your weight is so far back on your blade that they just slip off and you fall on your tailbone...
hi there! I've been learning how to ice skate since a month ago haha but still learning swizzles hahaha I'm a little old (23) but totally understand the magic of skating! I needed this for the stops! I've seen people saying to force the blades sideways, keeping them parallel to stop but that never worked for me
Renée Stockton ooo yeah don't do that XD sorry that was mean
Renée Stockton that sounds like a hockey stop :-)
Can you do a video on how to do a simple two foot to one foot spin? I'd really like to learn that but I don't know how. :P

LMFAO RIGHT?
can you do a video about backwards crossover&a other basics.
I'd love to see that too! I am struggling with crossovers rn.
I'm still working on backwards crossovers, lunges, spirals. learning three turns and figures so i can take the MITF test sometime
Stephanie French same!
Okay, now I just need to channel my eros >:3

Can you do a video on getting jumps fast because I need my jumps cause I'm competing intermediate in a month and only have 2 doubles😫😫
ImaniMichelle she uploaded that video titled "How To Rotate Faster" or something lol, best of luck. It's just a little farther down on the queue.
Imani try adding quad axel, single loop, triple axel then at the last move try using a triple flip then combination spin if its romantic.
quad axel??? are you sure? Yuzuru hanyu has never landed that let alone someone who can only do a couple of doubles
Imani i
Brazillydance Brazillydance Are you insane?!😂 no one ever landed a Quad Axel, Imani can’t do a triple axel, no one does those in the girls intermediate level, no one does a SINGLE LOOP in the intermediate level, + you are required to do 3 combination spins in the intermediate level so she would have to do them ANYWAY please get your facts

Wow! A pretty girl with unplucked eyebrows! So nice! I look forward to putting on ice the moves you showed here!
Eye Katie this is really good and the techniques you showed in details are very helpful ;)
I don't even know why I'm watching this I've been figure skating for a year

Tia McGrath honestly get a coach you will learn much faster and won't be doing bad technique
Learning the t stop in my skating class right now. A LOT harder than you would ever think
I am 24 of age and I just started skating (literally I spent 5hrs only, in total) in the ice. Thank you for this tips, I hope you can do more videos for beginners (in skating).
Oh wow, this video was really helpful. Thanks Katie.😊❤
Thank you for posting this. Much appreciated.
Can you please do a video on your on ice warm up exersises? Just like more stroking exercises and stuff would be really helpful
I’m quite new to this and I thought your lesson helped me a lot I am going skating in 2 days and we are going to attempt some things so thanx
Can you please do a hair tutorial for your Roxie program? I am love with it!
my city has just one please to do ice skating, and my mom can't pay for my lessons, but now I can start to learn by myself thanks to your videos
Thank you 😀😊
I have a question. If you already know how to roller blade/ skate is it easy to ice skates? Thanks
Do you have tips on waltz jumps, spread eagle, or half flips? Thank you ilysm
Nam Phuong Tran for walz keep you body straight in the air and keep your arms rounded around your chest
For half flips make sure your not slamming the toe pick in the ice and bring your feet together quickly
Nam Phuong Tran you could check out a series called "kate skates", it's another girl explaining those jumps in slow motion in one of her videos :)
OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS
